LOL That's about how I am with the story. I know key things only, not where they'll fall in the tale, though. Except where it's only logical that they fall. For instance, I know one of my main characters has to get from one place to the next in order for the story to even move forward. He can't do that until he goes to sleep and wakes up. Magic takes place all over and now the story can continue past this bump. But from the beginning to that point? Or from that point to the next? I'll cross that proverbial bridge when I get to it. ^_^
Wow, that's awesome. Hoorah for small campuses! I went to a small private University called Baker University for a year. Because it's private, it's also expensive and became more than I could afford. So now I'm trying to finish up my degree, though it's slow going right now...

Yeah... campus is less than 500 people, in middle-of-nowhere vermont, seriously, the town doesn't even have a streetlight. And where I am now is like fifty grand a year which is really exspensive, I'll be paying college off until i'm like 50, but hey, what could I do, I needed to come here, I failed out of my last college. All I can hope is to get my bachelors without too much more debt after I get my associates this spring.
As for my novel, I have the basic big turning points like, main characters realize they have magical powers, they get training, bad guys show up, they get taken care of one by one, the end. Though how any of that happens, I don't have a clue, I was hoping to have a complete outline but... yeah... that so didn't work.

Heh, yeah. I hear the debt stuff. I think, if I remember right, it was 16,000 per year at Baker (back in '99/'00. I'm old, I know. ^_~) when I went. It's probably lots more now. I wish you much luck on your Associates and your Bachelors! What's your major, if you don't mind me being curious?
;;nods;; I read the synopsis of your story. It looks like it will be worth the read by the time you're finished with it! ;;bounces in seat, hand raised;; Could I have a peek at it when you're done writing it? I, oddly enough (or not, depending), cannot work off an outline. I know what my key events are, and that's enough for my creative side to work from.
>.> Which reminds me, I really need to get the story I finished for NaNoWriMo in '07 up on my own website with all the other stories I've got up there.... >< I'm horrible about updating that thing and I really need to get loads better about it.

You're not old! I don't mind you asking, my major is either Physics or Illustration/Animation/VideoGameDesign, and I'm leaning more towards the Physics right now, it was my original major, and I'd like to stick with it. I'm looking at schools in FL, MA, and Canada... I know, really far apart, I'm leaning towards MA and Canada, I'm a New England girl at heart.
And yeah, I'd be happy to let you read the 100k plus monster I'm planning on having after NaNo... and yes, i'm a crazy person trying for 100k. I did 51k last year, so I'm basically trying to double it since that 51k didn't get me halfway done my story so I'm going to try and actually finish the story this time.

;;laughs;; Aww, that's sweet! I'm 29 as of this past September (most people think that's old. I certainly don't feel or act my age), just so ya know. OOoooo, Physics can be awesome! I'm majoring in Theatre, myself. And stuck in the "Heartland", at that. Kansas City (which I don't feel bad saying as there are a metric crap-ton of suburbs around the Kansas City area), to be closer to precise. I give you much luck for your next school. Goodness knows, I'm attempting to get as many classes in at the local Community College as I can in order to get closer to earning my Associates in that, at least.
Yay! And really, if it takes you longer to get the story cranked out than November 30th, you've still won if you've hit 50K words! (and I'll pester you, if you want, throughout December till the story's finished, too). I wish you a whole lotta luck for this event! But I'm sure you'll hit it just fine, and get your tale told by the end of the month! ^_^

Hey, I turn 22 in November myself, so you're not that much older than me. Theatre is pretty cool, I know someone a year older that's going into theatre, she's the daughter of one of the ladies my mom plays majong with.
And I'm hoping I can get the story done, there is Thanksgiving break in Nov so I'm hoping I can get a lot done.

Attempting, certainly, as I do just about every year, haha. Attempting is, of course, the key word. Oh NaNoWriMo, I love and hate thee. *shakefist*
Sadly it's right in the middle of classes as well, so. We shall see!

Well I'm taking 5 college classes while trying to do it, and two of those classes are english ones, so I'm kinda making things rather difficult on myself, but I'm going to give it a shot anyways!

I hope I can do it too. I'm taking 6 classes myself, but I really hope I can do it. I have time before and after class so it should work.

Aw, thanks! I think it's a little late to do it this year, but I'll be thinking up an idea for next year, for sure.

I have time between classes as well, and also, we're allowed to have laptops in class so I can type away there too! Not that I really should, but I can.

It's never too late! I started last year on Nov 1 on a whim, and somehow got a story out of it, granted there are plot holes the size of the planet in it, but I still managed to write it. Give it a shot, and even if you don't hit 50k, you'll still have more than you did before.

I'm not too confident I'll manage to meet the goal, but either way it should be fun.

Don't worry yourself, I jumped in last year at the start. I'm still not confident I can meet my goal, i met it last year litteraly 5 mintues before midnight on Nov 30, and even if you didn't win, you'll still have more written at the end of the month than you did at the begining. So either way you win!

Haha yeah, I know the feeling. I've got 12 credit hours, and 9 of them are literature classes (and 4 and 5000 level classes at that) so I've got my work cut out for me. XD

I feel your pain, I really do. I actually ended up taking the two english by accident, but i'm also taking calculus 1 and educational psychology as well, i have on easy class which is art history, but everything else is pretty difficult.

Wow, that really was a close call!
I've stopped worrying a bit now that it's started and I can actually get writing. I'm already over 1700 words, which I think is probably more than I've ever written in one session before! :D

I'm going to try it. I'm not sure how far I'll get though, since I don't even have an idea for a story yet, but I've got ten months to think of that. Also I’ll be a freshman in collage then which will cut down on my free time A LOT.
Can you write any other time of the year or just in November?

The official one is in November, but if you go on the forums they have you'll find some people organising things for other months.
I did it last year and met my target at 50,006 XD I managed to finish the whole story about a week into December.
Might do it again this year, depending on who busy I am.

I keep failing every year. And I've been trying for almost five years now. I'm hoping 2010 will be the year I finally beat NaNoWriMo. My problem with 2009 is that I wound up hating my story. Like, hating it to the point where I was struggling just to write one word! I guess I'm not suitable for certain genres. >_>
