It's a okay-ish idea, but I don't think I'd use it. There's no point, especially how you said it'd be as another forum. I barely browse through all forums as it is, so it'd just become another forum that's just sitting there for me.

I personally wouldn't use it, but it does sound like a nice idea.

I might browse it when I have that much time to spare, but as for advertising my own threads...maybe when I have a thread to advertise, I'll think about it.

As Arikana points out though, if you don't browse forums to begin with, you're not likely to browse this one either.

All in all, I'm thinking that if it doesn't take much time and effort, go for it. But opportunities and resources are better spent elsewhere.

i don't think i would use it cause i am a little stingy with my gold  hehe
i guess i'd rather spend it looking for my quested items, which might be easier with this option... but ya, i don't think i'd put up banners myself

I doubt I'd use it to advertise my own things, but I'd probably stop by and see what other people have been advertising. xD I'm always looking for new places to hang out, and roleplays to join so...owo

Honestly, at first I thought it was a useless idea. Just abandon it. But then after I read it again and read your reasons underneath, I realized how big this site really is and how convenient a place like that would be. SO sure!! If no one else, I would deffinently use it! :XD

I would probably use it, just to see what's up around Mene and maybe find some things to participate in/places to hang out. I don't think I'd use it to advertise, though.

I guess it would be a nice touch, though until the site starts to get very busy and people feel as if they really need to get noticed above lots of other threads, then I don't see it being a very big priority.
Chopped out some parts of the post and what have-you, but I agree with those points Luna brought up. :)

I like the idea, and would certainly use it to find nice places to hang out in (too greedy to advertise myself, though hehe), but I agree with lunanuova:

I'm just a firm believer in "Good Conversation/Topics/Kindness brings people together in threads" not "adverts brought me here".
I just hope that Mene will be the same good old Mene after this if it happens.

It sounds like a very interesting idea. I probaly wouldn't use it but it would be cool to browse around. Go For It! Hopefully it won't slow down the server.

If it cost gold, then yes I would. If it cost real money, then I wouldn't.
I do like this feature though(:

I seriously doubt I'd use it myself, so I don't really care either way. Though I do agree that if it's going to be a big production to make it, then there are definitely other features I'd rather see time spent on.

i'm only here for Role Playing, so really it would be useless to me otherwise, but as long as the 'ads' are being reviewed so that they aren't breaking the rules it seems pretty easy. But if it costs real money then i'd have to say Heck No. This place would just become too expensive and it would cause a lot of people to just up and leave, me being one of them if you started charging real world money to post an ad.

thing is where would the proposed gold go? i mean would it go into something like a 'charity'? or would it be a type of lotto that people could then get a ticket for?

I agree with lunanuova. If I wanted to know what was going on, I'd visit the forum in question and search out threads myself, hop in to see if I'd be interested, read up on the conversations, etc. This isn't a very fast-moving forum, and users are able to post descriptive thread titles AND hover over titles to see if they'd want to jump into the threads based on the first few sentences or so. So... I just don't see the point of this proposed ad feature. If this were a bigger forum where it was super difficult to keep up with threads, I'd be all, "Hey, go for it!" But it's... not. 8P

...Okay, I'm starting to be swayed after reading through the first post a few more times. O___o;;; Ahhh! But seriously, it COULD work, as long as it was more, "Hey, want to drop by somewhere fun where you can talk with like-minded people\buy things on your wishlist\etc?" Not, "post in my thread because it needs more posts. kthxbai." In other words, still community-minded versus post-number minded. Have Mene still be a living breathing community, not like a post-generating machine. Not that I THINK it will turn out that way in the near future... I'm just stating my most pessimistic thoughts on how this COULD turn out, worst case scenario. 8)

Also, if it turned into a bidding operation, I would be against it. I see it as the price just racking up and ultimately only the super-rich Mene members could post ads... In other words, an elitist thing? "I'm richer than you, hence I can have an ad." No, I don't think that the super-rich Mene members I know about are like this. I'm just saying that this is how it could possibly be perceived. So, if there were eternally set prices and certain limitations that would "level the playing field," as it were, again, it could work. 8) Also, I'm assuming this is going to be priced by Mene gold.

Gah, long post is long. *Mai scuttles out*

I wouldn't use it. >.> I think signatures are good enough for advertising threads/random things so this wouldn't be someplace I would really spend much time.
I can see it being useful for on-going contests like users pick etc but in the long run it's just not my thing. ^^;;

I don't have any threads to advertise at this point, but I can see it being possibly useful, and a useful gold sink, too.

I would use the feature to find threads, but I wouldn't pay to advertise mine. Advertisement never works for me personally. xD

I think this would be a nice feature. i imagine it would get used by a lot of people as long as it doesn't cost an outrageous amount of gold to post something there.

Personally, I'm not one for running many threads at all, and not big on putting myself out there, so I wouldn't use it to advertise anything... But I would probably browse through it a lot!

I think, on the whole, I don't like it.

1) The current system of having to use your signature to advertise things means that I, at least, try to be active in many different threads and forums.

2) Even if it costs gold and not real money, it's not like Menewsha needs any gold sinks. People who are saving gold for charities might not want to spend that gold on advertising.

3) What's the point of it? It's not that hard, honestly speaking, to find RPs, charities, hangouts. If Menewsha weren't so well organized, perhaps... but it's very well organized. At least *I* think I can find any thread I might be interested in.

A better option might be to have a better search function. Right now, the search only works for people who posted and for self-tagged threads. Automatic tagging based on the thread title would be really helpful.

Another better option might be to have a single forum which draws threads like the roleplay requests, hangouts, etc.

OR to have a forum which draws newer threads with fewer than a certain number of posts, as a form of automatic advertising.

On that note, perhaps if the classifieds are implemented, as everyone else seems to prefer, to not allow super-active threads to advertise in there.

I likely wouldn't use such a feature.

To make it successful, I would say gold must be a payment option. Also, have the display order ranked so a lower payment amount would result in a later display order; the bottom ranking could have a cost cheap enough that nearly everyone place an ad.

----------

I agree with anime_scholar that a better search function would probably serve the community than a ad service.
