"that sounds like a good plan." She watched Lume as a feeling of confuson and curiosity washed over her. It took her a second to realize they were not her feelings, that she accidentally let down her walls that block out her abilities. "What's wrong? Your confused?" She watched him closely as he thought to himself.

"What?" Lume glanced around. "Er, no. Not really, no. Was just thinking, is all." He shook his head, throwing away the thoughts that had nearly drowned him then. Her decisions were her own, and he had no right to question. Pushing his thoughts away, he also pushed his feelings away, leaving those he was accustomed to, those of placid calmness and quiet curiosity of the world. "I might not think of this decision," he added. "I might just go on intuition."

Fayne could tell he was a little distracted, but let it go. "Intuition is good, at least, in my opinion. Sometimes, it can be better than thinking about it. Thoughts tend to get in the way at times. But, they can also save your life." She stared at the sky, watching as it slowly grew brighter. Her eyes were sensitive and noticed little things.

"Thoughts always get in the way." Lume said. "You have to control them, act on very little notice, very little consideration. Well, I do, that is." He sniffed the air, taking in a deep breath. The scents he picked up were fresh, that of earth and water as dew settled in the midst of very early morning. Mixed with the scent was that of the odd one he noticed not several days before, an oddly familiar scent, somewhat comforting, and calling. "I'll go." He said. "I'll go, and find the source of this desire to go forward." Glancing at Fayne, he nodded. "Perhaps we will go the same way." He added. It was an odd thing for him to say, as he had grown so accustomed to being alone.

"Perhaps we will. Perhaps... We shall." Fayne silently rose to her paws and looked directly into Lume's eyes. "I will go with you. I will stick by your side to help you find the source of this... Scent." She felt a familiar feeling when she thought of the scent. Almost as if she had known the source at one point in time.

Lume backed away, shaking his head. Fayne had met his eyes long enough for that woman’s voice to come back, screaming in a mix of fear and anger, but it echoed away when he turned his eyes down. “I’ve never traveled with someone before.” He admitted. “I suppose it could be a nice change, a nice way of getting away from what I’ve known so long already.” He turned to the city. “We should get some food from town before leaving.” He said. “It’s a wasteland out there, beyond this forest. At least, it’s what I’ve heard.”

"I guess we'll find out. At least, it will be exciting." She nodded. "Let's find something to eat, then, and be on our way. Which way do you want to approach this?" ((She means in human or wolf form.)) She avoided staring at Lume, seeing as he was uncomfortable meeting her eyes. She understood. Her abilities would act up when she least expected it. And sometimes, it left her momentarily frozen, paralyzed.

((I thought as much))

“It would be better to go in human form. We should get accustomed to our human form and remain that way as much as possible, while leaving long travel to our wolves.” Lume stepped toward the city, the air shimmering around him and moving him upright, shaking out of his animal body and into his human form. “It would be much easier to go about other humans this way, anyway.” He added. “They would see us as what they are.” He glanced at Fayne.

"Yes, that sounds reasonable." Fayne slowly stood upright on her paws, as she felt her body shift into her human form. She now stood on two feet she never found as sturdy as the paws in her wolf form. It took her a long time to adjust to the feet of her human form, but when she did, she found it fairly easy.

When she noticed Lume glance at her, she looked back. "Yes?"

"Nothing." Lume glanced down again. His gaze was always drawn to the eyes of anyone he looked at, human or animal. The memories of those in front of him always assaulted him so quickly he never had time to block them out. "Come now, we should be off." He stretched his human legs. It was easy to walk even after spending most of the night in his animal form. "I know the perfect places to get imperishable meats good for long journeys." He added, stepping away from the tree and waiting for Fayne to accompany him.

Fayne quickly walked away from the tree, noticing he was already a few feet in front of her. "Of course. Let's be on our way then." She put her hands behind her back, cupped together. It was a position she was often found in, when in this form. She always found it strange, to be able to take this form but also enjoyed the benefits it had. She smiled as they went on their way. This is going to be exciting.

Lume kept his hands in his pockets, his head low. It was how he always appeared in the presence of others, brought on by his earlier life. Most of the time, his posture was bad, his eyes low to the ground, and his voice quiet. It was rare he raised his head to present himself at a taller and stronger stance, as there was little reason to do so unless directly confronted by one who wished to do harm to him or someone innocent. He walked beside Fayne rather than in front of or behind, showing equality between them, and indicating the break in the wall he usually used to enter and exit the main area of the city. “It’s easier to get in this way,” he said, “and out through the main entrance before the day guards are posted.”

Fayne smiled, standing straight up, examining each building and object until Lume's voice interrupted her. She glanced at him, nodding. "Alright, you seem to know what you're doing. I don't really know this area very well." She admitted rubbing he back of her neck.

"Then keep close." Lume climbed over the rubble that once made up the wall and offered a hand to Fayne. "I've got much of the city logged away, and easy entrances to markets and shops."

Fayne could have jumped but she found it wise to save her energy for the journey that lay ahead. She smiled and grabbed his hand propelling herself up. "Thank you." Fayne stood up straight examining the city finding it just as impressive as the first time she had ever seen it from this height.

Lume nodded and led the way down the alley. "I think two stops would suffice." He said. "One at the butcher, and one at the clothing shop. Anything could lie ahead, and it's best to get heavier clothes in case we hit cold weather." As he spoke, he pointed down the alley, where he could see the butcher shop on the other side of the road. Its windows were dark, its door closed and locked. No one would be back until the sun shone its light on that side of the world.

"Alright." When she saw him point to the butcher shop, seeing it wasn't open, she nodded. They would have to be quiet about this. She glanced in each direction, searching for any human. When she failed to see any, she readied herself to jump.

Lume glanced at Fayne. “We’ll go through the back.” He said. “It’s usually unlocked, the back door, and when it is, it’s easy to get inside. Nothing drastic or overly-complicated.” He stepped into the center of the street. No vehicles were traveling, no person wandering at such an early hour. He looked back for Fayne.

Fayne nodded. "Alright." She jumped off of the wall, and landed silettly next to Lume. "Let's get this over with."

Lume led Fayne down the narrow alley between the shop and another building whose windows were boarded. The back door was bound with an especially-rusted lock, and he pulled a chain out of his pocket. Linking it around the loop, he pulled, straining and snapping it. The door came open with a harsh creaking noise.

Fayne blinked when she saw how easily the door had opened. She thought the humans would try harder to protect their belongings. Guess I thought wrong. She shrugged and waited for Lume to enter into the shop.

Lume chuckled to himself. "Humans." He muttered. "Inept creatures." He glanced at Fayne. "I'll be right back. I know where the best things are."

With that, he let himself into the shop, closing the door to where only a sliver of moonlight could enter. A buzzing light bulb was the only thing lighting the way in the back room, which was wood-paneled and low-ceilinged. A desk stood near the door leading to the front of the store, and Lume passed two chairs and an old couch to get to it. Several burlap sacks sat on the back of one chair by the door, and he grabbed two. Going through the door, closing it behind him, Lume could catch the sweet scent of meet wafting from the third door, that which was past the one leading to the freezer. That was where the butcher kept smoked and dried meats.

Passing the freezer door, feeling its cold draft from near the floor, Lume put a hand on the door handle and listened. No one was near, no one outside the front door. He pulled open the door and stepped inside, closing it and flipping on the light switch beside the door. When the sickly yellow glow fell from the ceiling, it illuminated the darkly-colored meats from deer, bovine, and swine hanging on hooks. Reaching into his pocket, Lume extracted his knife, and began a quick hacking at the nearest cow.

Digging deep, he pulled mostly meat from the carcass and filled the bags. Some of the swine were very young, and they sat on tables, ready to be hung or put under the glass display in the storefront. He separated several legs and set them in the other bag. It was very dry in the room, so much so Lume had difficulty breathing, and with no windows, he felt very confined. As he tied the bags, heavy with their contents, he was breathing hard. Shutting off the light, closing the door securely, he started back to where he left Fayne.

Faolan could hear Lume roam through the house faintly. She knew no normal human could hear if one should happen to walk by. She placed herself against the shop wall and closed her eyes.

When she heard Lume's breathing pick up slightly, she opened her eyes. He must be in a small area. Suddenly, she heard him approach the door. She pushed off of the wall and opened the door just enough for Lume to slide through.

Lume threw the bags outside before him, and squeezed out. He shut the door and replaced the broken lock on the hook, but it was impossible to secure it again. In the cool air again, he felt better, seeing the sky that comforted him. “We can make it last a good number of days.” He said to Fayne, handing her one of the bags. “But we should get to the clothing store in case of bad weather. It’s a couple streets over.” He stepped down the alley, waiting for her.

Fayne took the bag Lume handed her. She looked around her as he continued to speak. When she heard him say they should head to the clothing store, she looked at him and nodded. As he took a step forward, she followed shortly after.
