Derek looked at the bag then nodded. "Alright hten, your bedroom is down the main hall to the right. Mine is the door to the left if you need anything, feel free to ask. Have you eatten yet Cain?"

"I had a muffin at work," the boy said sheepishly, though he failed to mention that that had been this morning. He shrugged his shoulders then. "Anyway, I'm not hungry."

"Alright, well the kitchen is right over there if you find yourself hungry in the middle of the evening. Just don't wake me up letting me know please."

Cain nodded and slowly headed towards his new room. "Thank you..." he finally said, though he wouldn't look at the older male. "For letting me stay here. I won't cause you any trouble."

"Good to know. There's an alarm clock in there, don't forget to set it so that you can get up for school in the morning. That's my one condition. If you're going to live here, you're going to stay in school. Got it?"

"Of course," Cain said, nodding.

"Well I'm glad that's settled. Well then...goodnight Cain, sweet dreams and I shall see you in the morning." The professor smiled at his student then before heading to his bedroom.

Cain watched the man go. Confused about what all had just happened, he ran a hand through his hair. Living with his teacher... It was an odd thought. The boy pulled out another cigarette and stepped out onto the small balcony for another smoke.

Derek sighed then when he heard the balcony door open. "You know...those things are going to kill you..." He called out, though he smoked as well when he was really nervous and upset.

Cain didn't reply, instead quietly shutting the door behind him. He leaned against the balcony railing and lit the cigarette. Though his biggest problem had been solved, there were still several things troubling him. He barely had anything on him. His backpack was filled with his homework from the night before and an extra pair of clothes he had stuffed in before leaving his house. Or getting kicked out, rather.

Derek sighed when the boy shut the door but instead of heading back to the bedroom, the blonde slipped on some shoes adn went outside with Cain, smiling softly. "Mind if I borrow one? I didn't buy a new pack since last weeks test."

Cain looked up when the door opened. Without answering he reached into his pocket and pulled out a second cigarette, handing it to the older male. "You're a hypocrite, you know," he noted. He took another puff before redirecting his gaze out over the city.

"Yes, I'm aware of that but I would rather it kill me at the age that I'm at instead of killing you that young. Get over it." Derek lit the cigarette and sighed beofre taking a puff himself. "It's beautiful isn't it?"

The boy frowned slightly but nodded. "Yeah... it is. It's weird, I never seen the city from this high up before."

"Yeah...I've been here for years and yet I still come out here and look at the city. Every time it amazes me. One of these days I want to bring someone up here you know...It would be romantic...I've always thinking that I would propose to the person I love someplace high like this. Someplace beauitful with a great view of the city."

Cain simply laughed and took a drag of his cigarette. "Yeah... how romantic."

Derek shrguged then. "what...I think it would be. We would be out here, talking about the future, how in love we both are...and then I'll propose..."

"Love... right. There's no such thing." Cain took the cigarette away from his lips then and dropped it, quickly stepping on it to put it out.

Derek looked slightly shocked then by the boy's statement. "Yes there is. Love is when your heart races from something as little as a smile...It is there Cain...why would you say it isn't?"

The boy didn't answer. In all honesty, he didn't feel comfortable discussing this with his teacher. "Goodnight, professor," he finally said.

Derek sighed then nodded, putting out his own cigarrette. "Alright then...goodnight Cain...I hope that you sleep well and do well tomorro win class."

The boy didn't answer and went inside, going immediately to his temporary room and and collapsing on the unmade bed. He didn't bother undressing. Only moments passed before exhaustion overtook the boy and he slipped into a deep sleep.
