I knew about 4chan but I went on only for the hentai gif. Though I stop going on 4chan and I know someone who still frequently goes on there. I just don't look for internet memes. I know it's new for some people and they do use it quite a lot. From what I saw on the internet and I spend my days on the net. I just don't care for them and I don't look for them either. I don't know what I spend my days on the net for anyways. =/

Stop going to 4chan; if you've grown out of it, don't force yourself into it or badger someone else for finding it humorous. We don't all spend every free waking minute surfing the bowels of the internet; we haven't seen it all, and we certainly haven't clicked links that have to do with cups and girls in pairs.
I don't go on 4chan anymore. ;) My problem is that this stuff keeps leaking OUT of 4chan and is pretty much unavoidable anywhere on the internet at this point. In fact, it's unavoidable in my daily life, too. My major is full of regular geeks and nerds, many of whom will use internet memes in real-life situations. It's horrible.

edit - For clarification: The meme use bothers me. The geeks and nerds do not.

Slightly off topic, but I've tried a gourmet chocolate and bacon, and I personally don't think you're missing much. Perhaps it's because the bar I tried a dark chocolate one, but I didn't really enjoy the taste. I've tried a lot of odd chocolate bars (Vosges chocolate bars are generally delicious) but the bacon and chocolate ones are not my favorites by a long shot.

Back on topic,

@ Keyori: LOLcats is one of the few memes that I adore. And you're right, there is a lot of crap, but also a lot of ones that are pure gold. I have also never been on 4chan, and can honestly say that I have no interest in ever doing so.

I actually try not to gag when I see memes nowadays. I was part of the 4chan and /b/tard crew back in 2005 and I'm sick of seeing material from 7 years ago popping up basically everywhere.

And so many newbies popping in from 2009 onwards that killed 4chan and then everyone regurgitating memes in my daily life.. please stop. X_X

In all honesty, it's the internet. Don't question it, don't fight it.

I'm a big fan of running-joke comedy, so I don't mind most memes at all.
I also have a bit of a weird sense of humor and quite enjoy a lot of the memes out there.
However, with the more recent popularity of memes, they're starting to appear everywhere. Keyboard cat in commercials and success kid in ads, for example. Something that really annoys me about this is the general public attempting to use memes and failing at it.
The miss use of memes kills me a little inside every time I see it. For example, there's a facebook app quiz thing that tells you which meme you are. According to the quiz the classic Troll Face is called "happy old man".

On a side note: 9gag is terrible. Don't go there.

Dude, it's humour. Some of it you'll outgrow (like 4chan), some of it you'll never see why it was popular in the first place (like Dane Cook) and some of it is comedic genius that has the ability to resonate to your real life while also making you rofl (like Louis C.K or tumblr). The internet is a melting pot, so you get all of that via memes.

there's no point in worrying about it, some people will always find the same things funny (thus the "this is sparta" meme still in use a decade later) but most won't, thus the ever changing variety of memes

After 7 years of memes for me, I'm begging everyone to please stop. I don't think it's just younger teens because college memes have been on the rise everywhere.

@Hidari: I do admit, "This is Sparta" is one of the memes that still manage to make me laugh. Fandom memes in general also make me giggle. XD

@Pa-chinko: What do you mean by "college memes"? I mean, I know that around my college we constantly make fun of Wagner's Ring Cycle, but that's because our mascot is the Valkyrie.

College memes are the worst. They don't even make it out of Facebook, fortunately. They're not even memes, that's a misuse of the word. They're image macros, and they use something relevant to the school for an image, and the joke is only relevant to the school. The problem is the joke is always horrible. Always. I go to Columbia College Chicago, and all the jokes on the 'CCC memes' page are about partying or being stopped by Greenpeace on the way to class.

Ah, I see. So I guess the Wagner would be considered a college 'meme' for my school. Granted, "The Ride of the Valkyries" is apparently our fight song, but since I usually don't attend sporting events I can't say for sure.

I like 9gag a lot, and it's the only internet meme website that I actually go to...daily.
I love the pictures because, I can relate to most of them.
It's ridiculous teenage humor that I understand, so I keep getting on.

I decide not to tell anyone else about 9gag, nor do I post photos from it on my Facebook. I try not to make it a I'm-going-to-make-all-these-jokes-mainstream things, even though they already are.

But, yep.

That's pretty much it for Sora too...........and the fact that some of them are so much of an inside joke that Sora's friends and him can talk about them in public and not offend anybody because most of them don't get it in the first place.

Personally, I prefer the staredads. Some are funny, most are retarded. But, they still make me laugh.
