It's not until August but it's just like 6 miles down the road from my house in a festival field. It's Runrig's 40th anniversary so they're doing a weekend thing (I'm only going to see them though, not the ceilidh on the Friday night because tickets were fucking expensive). I really hope their original singer comes to do a few songs though. He has been playing some gigs up here so I'm keeping my fingers crossed C:

@spunky: It was nice. He kind of surprised me with it too. Just woke me up that morning and asked if I'd like to go on a picnic. xD Oh, I would love to visit Oregon! I hear it's gorgeous. If I ever leave the Midwest and don't move to Canada, I'd actually like to live on the West Coast. :)
@Poet: Oh my god, that's awesome. I am exactly the same, but with board/card games instead. Nothing makes for a romantic evening like a game of Android: Netrunner! xD

I don't think I could handle games on a date to be honest. I'm far too competitive so I wouldn't be exactly selling myself if I got game rage haha

Vinyl; oh that sounds so fun. i'm glad that it isn't too far. driving like 20 miles to get to a concert and driving back is no fun.
Vox; i'll be staying there for two nights and we are going by train so that should be an interesting experience. i'd actually like to go to Canada sometime soon.
haha i can imagine Vinyl throwing the gameboard up into the air and just walk away with her fists pumped up.

@Spunky: I know right! Like no concerts I want to go to are ever near mine. I usually have to make 4 hour journeys to see bands I like. However, if it's a good show it's totally worth it.

i'll share an interesting story. i went on a blind date last December and the guy I met was a complete douche. He wanted me to plan our first date and also wanted me to drive him to the airport afterwards. That was the end of that. He sort of scarred me by treating me that way, but this thread is shedding some light on what an ideal date should be. thanks everyone who has posted.

@Vinyl: Haha I am too. I wouldn't play games on a date with a new person because they would probably never talk to me again. My partner and I have been together for over two years so if we get pissed at each other over a game, we just get over it, haha.

@Vox: Haha yeah playing with new people never ends well. I remember the first time I played monopoly with my ex and a couple friends I flipped the board because I lost ha

I prefer low-key dates too. My last boyfriend and I dated for two months, during which we only had one "proper" date. We saw The Hobbit in theaters. That was a lot of fun, but it was just as fun as all the times we'd cuddle at home and watch something on Netflix. I think hanging out at home is more fun since you have more freedom. You can eat whatever and whenever you want, talk about whatever you want (pause the movie to discuss it, even), and do whatever you want. Including smoochin'. '
As for playing games... said ex actually asked me out while we were playing Smash Brothers. Which is surprising how much I was trash talking him during the matches. Even though I was losing.

Hiya Cherry! haha I loved watching The Hobbit. (off topic: I watched it twice in the opening week) I definitely agree about having more freedom and flexibility at home. Playing games do bring out the best of us doesn't it?

Yes... the... best... in me... I have no idea why he still wanted to ask me out after an hour of me yelling F-bombs and various other lovely terms at him.

he likes your fiery gaming spirit! that's why haha.
i actually recommended my friend to take his girlfriend out on a mystery dinner night in San Diego. there is an acting troupe that hosts these dinner nights at an old mansion. everybody has a unique character to play out as and they need to figure out who killed who by the end of the night. it is sort of like the game Clue. they recently tried it out a few months ago and they absolutely loved it.

Unless I've been with the person for a while, I hate dates. I think that has more to do with the fact I don't like being with someone romantically before I know them really well.
My exhusband would always take me to nice dinners, walks in the park on warm summer nights, surprise me with chocolates, and things like that all the time. I think those kinds of things are corny but still cute. Again, it has to be someone I know and know well for that to work otherwise I'm just going to laugh.

I agree, Mystic, being romantic with someone you don't know well is weird. I mean, it works for some people so more power to them, but I couldn't imagine going out with someone I barely knew! I prefer to be friends first (hence why the ex and I were playing games in the first place).

Some gifts and gestures can be corny, I agree. I have never been in a serious relationship but I would appreciate it if my partner sends me gifts. I would describe myself as being more independent than anything. I've been on so many blind dates and I would rather must prefer getting to know someone on a casual basis. Then maybe it will turn into something steady.

This has nothing to do with dates,
But every year for valentines day I make sure to get my boyfriend a stuffed animal monkey.
He's kept all the ones I have ever given him.
