Zap noticed Raven's fatigue and suddenly felt bad. He had kept the human awake for more than 24 hours, to help him recover. He got to his feet and patted Raven's shoulder lightly. "Sleep. Please. I will be OK. I might just... Read some of these books." Even though he was certain he wouldn't be able to understand human language, he could try. Maybe he could learn a thing or two about the world he lived in.
"If you have issues sleeping, I can charm you," he said with a smile, still unsure how he knew he could do this. So many things he just couldn't explain. It frustrated him.

Raven was about to shake his head, but it turned into a soft sway, and he sighed. "You sure you'll...?" Of course he would be okay. If he remained in his human form so that Salem wouldn't harm him again. "Okay, fine... But... don't touch anything you don't recognize if you look around the place. Nowhere's really off limits." He could barely let himself speak, but had to get out of his clothes if he were going to sleep---and he would definitely be sleeping here. He shifted, pulling off his vest and sleeveless shirt, half-folding them and lying his various necklaces and belts on top, and unwrapped the cloth from his arms. He shifted a little when the cool air hit the markings on his back and grimaced, but moved to kick off his shoes and slide them alongside the table that held the softly glowing lamp. "Salem's not so bad." He promised, pulling up his legs and letting himself fall backward. "Give him a chance." Feeling as if a heavy weight were pushing him down, Raven decided to let his eyes close despite the light in the room, and a muffled blanket came up to cover his senses.

Zap quietly closed the curtains, but stayed in the room. He watched raven fall almost instantly asleep, and then lightly explored the room. Was this Raven's bedroom? If so, the human had an interesting style. He approached one of the many bookshelves that Raven's house seemed to possess and looked over the titles. Of course they were written in human language, some that looked slightly familiar, though he couldn't remember why. He pulled out a book with an interesting spine and flicked through the pages.
He grew bored and transformed, crawling up to where Raven slept and curling up in the man's long black-purple hair. He fell asleep alongside the man, somehow knowing that he would have more energy during the dusk and night.

His sleep was so deep and so absolutely perfect that Raven had no idea if he dreamed or not. It was all dark, punctuated sometimes with fleeting glimpses of faces he didn't recognize, names he couldn't place, and a prickling pain along the skin of his back. But that wasn't unusual. It seemed those unusual tattoo-like marks always had that effect. But he had no idea why they felt that way, but might chalk that up to a bad decision he just couldn't remember. Maybe it was that, a bad decision he couldn't remember. But it just felt too ominous.
He woke when the sky was dark and Salem was meowing loudly. He was about to shift, wonder why he was sleeping in one of his guest rooms, then he felt the odd weight on the side of his head. Zap, of course. Why was he sleeping in Raven's hair? He shifted just slightly, bringing up his hand and untangling him from the forest of hair and lying the tiny thing on the pillow he abandoned. At least it was warm. "Okay..." Raven's voice was very low, a whisper as he talked to himself. He stood, gathering what clothes he discarded, and putting them under his arm as he stepped out of the room and closed it so Salem couldn't get in. "Okay, Salem, you hungry?"
The cat was twining around his legs, and Raven laughed, shaking his head. "Okay, okay, lemme go so I can walk." He scooped the cat up under his arm and carried everything downstairs, tossing the clothes on the couch as he passed and setting Salem on the dining room table.

Night time arrived and Zap awoke, suddenly feeling energized. He stood and stretched, looking about the room and wondering where Raven had gone. He looked back and frowned, his wings were still broken and a bit sore when he flapped them. He transformed to easily move about the house, leaving the room and looking for Raven.
He found the human in the kitchen, feeding his monster cat. Zap glared at the creature that had attacked him, still not forgiving it. "Did you sleep well?" Zap asked Raven, trying to be friendly. He glanced out the kitchen window and felt his heart leap at the sight of the moon. It wasn't full in the sky, but beautiful nonetheless.

Raven was chopping a salmon steak into a fine mince, and almost startled at the unusual voice that greeted him. He turned, smiling at Zap. "I did." He said. "But it's strange to sleep in that room. It's not mine, so I was a little confused for a second..." Turning back to the chopping board, Raven scooped the salmon into a metal shaper, setting half in the bottom and sandwiching soft vegetables between layers. "I hope you can forgive Salem, Zap." He said, glancing back and wincing at the fae's injured wing. "He really didn't mean to cause so much harm. It's just what he does." As if overhearing him, Salem appeared suddenly and meowed loudly.
"Okay, okay!" Raven sighed, pulling the metal shaper off and setting the plate on the floor. "Such a demanding thing." He shook his head. "Are you feeling any better, Zap?" He asked carefully, stepping around Salem as his attention focused fully on his food. "You sure you don't want me to heal that wing...?" He felt, in part, responsible for the injury. Really, all the injuries he'd suffered.

zap shook his head, but smiled at the offer. 'It's best to let it heal naturally. I think it is feeling a bit better, I should be able to fly again in no time... Though I should do so away from... Him." He glanced down at the cat in distaste, but hoped Raven wouldn't feel offended. "I actually feel very energised all of a sudden... I'd like to go into your garden and take a look around... I know it is late but I feel as though I am nocturnal."
He wanted to see the moon. That was one thing he did know about himself. The moon's soft light would help him heal, and maybe even remember who he was and where he had come from. What had he been doing in Raven's garden before Salem had captured him? What was he searching for...? He was looking for something... That was one thing he knew for certain.

Raven nodded slowly, and smiled. “Yeah, sure, the place is all yours as long as you ask before you take anything... Some of that stuff I grow for my mixes.” He glanced out the window, then stepped away from the counter, walking through the kitchen to lead Zap to the front door. “I don’t think I’ll be sleeping for a long time unless I mix up a sleeper’s draught.” He pulled open the door for Zap, stepping out along with him and closing it so Salem didn’t get out. It was evident that Zap didn’t like the cat much, and Raven couldn’t blame him for that. After an attack as devastating as it was, he would be holding a grudge too. “Nice, isn’t it?” He asked, stepping onto the grass and smiling at the way it bent under his bare feet.

Zap looked up at the moon, which wasn't quite full. He felt his body absorb its warm light and soon he was frolicking across the lawn, his body glowing blue with a strange power. As he danced under the moon, he felt his wings heal and he grinned, fluttering them slightly as he went to where Raven stood. He grabbed the human's hands and pulled him into a dance, which lead them around the house and into the almost forest Raven had in his backyard.
Zap saw a few flowers he thought were beautiful, roses, daisies... Their names entered his head as though it was only natural that he knew them. He looked at the trees and found that he knew their names too, he even knew what use the leaves and bark had. "Your garden is really powerful. You use the power of nature to do magic? Just like a Fae..." Zap smiled and looked over to Raven. "You are a very interesting human."

Raven gasped and stumbled after Zap, surprised at the fae's sudden flurry of activity. But at the same time he was glad to see him so lively, and with a fully healed wing to flit about with. He actually wanted to see that, but wouldn't ask. He was sure Zap would fly when he wanted to, perhaps in his full form. Shrouded under the trees of his expansive back yard, Raven's yellow eyes caught stray moonbeams and seemed to glow.
"I'm no fae." He laughed, stepping back and letting himself fall onto a bed of thick silvery moss that stood very high, dry, and pillowy. "I just... know things humans don't. And I even know a real fae. That's... really different. I didn't even know any were still alive..." He laced his fingers on his stomach and stared up at the sky he could see between the willow's branches. "I thought they were all..." He didn't finish. Did Zap even know? Did he know his kind were pretty much extinct? What if Raven had inadvertently dropped a huge bombshell?

Zap went quiet, hovering slightly over the grass as he watched Raven. The human had said that Zap was the first fae he had met. What did that mean? He remembered that his kind often hid from humans, because they had been hunted for their magical blood and bones. But before that, they only appeared to those that believed in them and would help those humans with all sorts of problems with their magic.
"Am I the only one?" Zap sighed, landing softly on the grass, his wings drooped as he frowned. "I just can't remember... I don't even know what I was doing here..." He surveyed Raven as he spoke. "Maybe there are others, but we hide from humans... I can't be the last one..." Was it even possible? He shrunk to his normal form and flew away from Raven, finding a bird feeder hanging from one of the branches. He sat on this, covering his face and sobbing quietly to himself.

Raven sat up and stared. He didn't say anything for a moment, but shook his head slightly. He hadn't meant what he said, about Zap's being the last one, the only one left of his kind. And really, what if he wasn't? He didn't blame the fae for hiding from humanity, from those that would kill them and use them that way, rather than learning about their magic and their way of life. It was how so many other creatures came to be extinct. Humans just didn't know how to leave well enough alone. He stood and followed the pale blue glow, jogging over the springy grass and coming to a stop in front of the feeder. It was at his eye-level.
"Za---" He caught himself and lowered his voice for the small ears to be able to handle easily. "Zap... Listen, I might be wrong. Your kind have reason to hide away, and I've never gone looking for the fae before. The rumors, though, are that they're gone. I can't understand how they'd all come to be gone since they take such care, though. You believe me, don't you? I'll help you look for them." He would. It was like a new mission in his otherwise predictable life. To find reason to help someone, to do something other than little tricks for the general public. And if he'd help a saddened fae that didn't even know why he was here, it would mean more than anything.
