I was actually pleasantly surprised at how well The Flash is doing with the show so far, in terms of direction, pacing, and writing. Personally, I found Arrow too tedious to watch after a while (particularly season 2 onwards), but the Flash is still keeping things exciting for me. There may be a slight bias there too, because the Flash is one of my top favourite superheroes and his rogues are my favourite, but considering I couldn't manage Smallville even when I was a huge Superman fan, that is probably a really good thing about the show.
Captain Cold and Heat Wave! They were utter fun, the actors completely embracing that this is a comic book tv show really made it for me. I've liked the actors since I saw them on Prison Break, and it's just great to see it being brought over in this way. (And puns! Puns are very important. The Flash Rogues pun like anything on a general basis. On that note, slightly disappointed Piper/Hartley barely did any puns, he does some pretty terrible ones about music and pipes in the comics.)
I have SO many theories about the Reverse-Flash and Wells' connection to him. If you don't care for spoilers, I can go on all day about it, but if you do I'll keep quiet about them for now. Time travel is definitely involved, as time travel has been a huge part of the Flash's mythos, though perhaps not in the way most people are thinking.
I saw the actor of Heat wave in John Doe which had an interesting idea behind it and I was sad to see it end on a cliff hanger. it also had a bit of that comic book feel to it, so I knew he would do well as a comic book villen. did you know that some of the Rouges are showing up on Arrow. boomarang was on not to long ago. and I have been told by my friend that some of the others that have been hinted on Arrow should be on Flash. I read the superboy comics and so was looking forward to smallvill but dropped that after the second season... i think. it really was bugging me that there was so much to draw on from the super boy comic that they did not do.
my friend says that the treadmill the flash has been using looks like a device that was used for time travle in the comics so yah... and SPILL on your thought for Wills. i want to know ALLL!!!!!!
I've not watched John Doe, actually, though it did sound interesting when I read about it some time back. Would you recommend the show?
Yes, definitely! I wasn't surprised they chose to have Captain Boomerang in Arrow first instead of the Flash, as he's had a history of being with he Suicide Squad (the team made by Amanda Waller) in the comics and was a bit of a Rogues wild card in later years. In the current rebooted comics, he's not even with the Rogues in Central City (boo).
About Smallville, I think it's in part because of budget (special effects would be expensive) and because it's on the CW network, which is usually geared more to drama than the actual superhero stuff. My favourite bit of Smallville is Lex Luthor, and when the occasional superhero or villain appears in an actually decent interpretation, such as Booster Gold. I'm really pleased that the comics trend is more accepted and well-known now if just because we're finally getting proper live action adaptations. And having the technology to do it also helps a lot!
Your friend is absolutely right! The Cosmic Threadmill (tm) is what the Flashes through time use to connect to the Speedforce to open a way for time travel (and sometimes traveling across different universes and realities). There are several possibilities and theories I have for this, also playing upon what happened in the comics. To come as I compile a list for the next post.
If you and your friend have any theories of your own, I'd love to hear them too!
for John Doe I would recommend it but warn that there is a cliff hanger that you will never get an ending to... which irks me to no end. they revaile one of the people that may know who John Doe really is and then they never filmed the next season. so boo to that. I may one day want to RP a John Doe like setup.
why did they take him from the Rouge's in the new comics? I am waiting for them to let him lose on the Flash. though I am liking what is happening in Arrow right now. Arrow is presumed dead AGAIN! and the new Black Canary is here. I was happy to see her arc with that.
yah one of the things I would have loved to have seen with smallvill I guess would have been a bit high budget... but LL would have been really cool as Queen Bee again. so cute in the Bee outfit.
at this time my mind is about ready to shut down so I cant think of what I had for theory.... so bad is the need for sleep I cant spell. but would love to read yours.
Oh, man, that sounds incredibly frustrating.
I'll write that series down in my "to watch" list for when I get an extended break.
I'm not sure why, to be honest. Captain Boomerang at this time is just completely separate, the Rogues do not know he exist yet. Maybe because the writers decide he can do better things in the Suicide Squad instead of with the rogues. I'm really happy Black Canary is getting her screen time, it's about time, I say!
Okay, THEORIES. I'm going to put them under spoiler bars just in case.
To start theorising, the best way to go about this is to start from Wells' connection to the Flash. For whatever reason, he needs the Flash healthy, alive, and as someone who trusts him up to the point his goals are finally achieved.
SPOILERX
1. Assuming Wells is the only Reverse-Flash in this season and there are no others: Wells is Barry Allen from a future who has been thrown back to the past. Because of the time paradox he's not able to tap into the Speedforce for his speed as he used to. He knows that to get back, he needs the Flash to exist, so he orchestrated the incident with the particle accelerator based on history as he knows it.
Based on this assumption, the events in the Pilot has NOT happened in Wells' relative time, but it's in the current future when he finally figures out how to work his speed powers, which means this would be Well's future but Barry's past. Wells made the Reverse-Flash costume in yellow because he based the design off the "man in yellow" he's heard and seen about in his current present from Barry. So what we see in the pilot episode could possibly be RF and Flash from the future going back as RF attempts to orchestrate history as it has happened. The difference in lightning colours can be explained by the method in which they're tapped into the Speedforce. Barry is tapped into the Speedforce naturally whereas Wells at that point in time is using tachyons to absorb the speed, so it won't be the same.
Motivation: The story of his dead fiance may be true. In comics canon, Barry married Iris Allen. If they were somehow engaged in the future and Iris was killed, a future Barry going back into the past may not be accidental but incidental. All of Wells' effort in this current timeline is to possibly change his future in that regards. That may also be why he keeps pushing Barry to be faster, and faster, and even faster.
1a. Instead of being Barry Allen from a future. Wells could also be a relation of Eddie Thawne with close connections with the Flash. In the comics, Reverse-Flash existed because of the Flash, so without the Flash, there will be no RF. Will expand on this in a bit.
2. There is more than one "Reverse-Flash" running around, despite what the interviews say. There have been a few of them in the comics, and I see this also as a likely scenario. Eddie Thawne is not just a name, the Thawnes have been known for a bloodline of "evil" speedsters. I have a lot more theories about Eddie, and each one is probably more ridiculous than the last, but Thawne is very important to the events in the future, so he has to stay alive. On this note, Eddie Thawne may be one of the RFs running around, but Wells is also one.
Will expand in the next post. Good gosh, too much things to type.
I was thinking that he might be one of the other speedsters, not berry. but that is me. I know that there have been at LEAST four speedsters, two of them with the name flash. one of them being the Hyper Speedball... he was an odd one.
There has been four Flashes in comics canon, actually, not including the alternate timelines and different universes. Barry himself was the second. The first is Jay Garrick, Barry, then Wally West, and for a brief time, Bart Allen (Barry's grandson).
There were also two Reverse-Flash pre-reboot, Eobard Thawne and Hunter Zolomon, and a completely different one post-reboot (Iris West's cousin).
Apart from that, there have been many other speedsters who did not take on the Flash name, Jesse Quick, Max Mercury, an alternate universe Flash, John Fox, etc. etc.

Difficult to say with The Flash, lots of timey wimey stuff goes on with them on a regular basis.
I forgot to post here good gosh. I have the half-written theories saved but I may need to revise them.
The speedsters are more time travelers than Timelords. There's a whole different category for Timelords, they're more closely tied to Booster Gold and Maxwell Lord (who IS actually a Timelord).
I'm very excited about the Firestorm story they have going on, actually! It's shaping up to look really good. And I never thought I'd see the day Grodd would appear live action on screen. That was an exciting teaser.
I saw on your art thread that you had drawn some of him. I just got done(today) drawing two of my characters which is a good thing. I have not been drawing in a long time... think the last time I drew anything it was a paper doll before Christmas.
I cant wait to see how they are going to play the two people in one body. so many ways to play that I am just to giddy.
There are so many other sketches in my sketchbook I've not posted of Len, Mick, Cisco, and Lashawn. They're too sketchy to post, but I've been drawing barely anything but the cw Flash characters lately. I'll probably be cleaning up some and posting them on my art tumblr.
Oooh That's fantastic! It always feels great to get back into art after a lull. Would you be posting them anywhere?
Yeess, that's one of the things I'm pretty excited about. The people who combine into Firestorm have been swapped around several times in the comics, but the main three have all appeared in the tv show, and gosh darn, am I excited! I wonder if they're going to do the mental two voice and internal arguments thing.
I posted the picts to my Deviant art but they are also up here at this thread because they are the characters I am going to be playing. my primary art form is sewing and I have been doing alot of that lately. like right now I am getting ready for an event this weekend where I will be selling pouches.
I was sad that the last villan did not get much cool screen time. I so want to call her Jinx.
They look good! I like the way you shade out the hair, marks, and shadows.
Oooh An event sounds exciting. Good luck with your sales!
Peek-a-Boo? She was actually a great character in the comics. I don't fully agree with her backstory change in the show, but she's such a minor character in the first place, I suppose it doesn't really matter to most.
Lia made a great summary with select comic panels of her appearances in the comics in this tumblr post, though, if you'd like to know more about her.
that is what I was thinking she would have been. its nice to see that my guess is not that far off the mark. in the show she just seemed like some joyriding kid. but I felt that she needed more to her.
thank you, I worked hard to lean to shade. granted I was coping some one else cause I liked how she drew. but now I am still drawing humans when I do draw and she is doing other things.
Yeah, I thought it was a great opportunity for the show to show the public misconception of a character by mistaking someone who tries to do good by calling them a villain in media, but oh, well.
Copying is not a bad thing, I do it sometimes too, as it's one of the best ways to learn what works for you and what doesn't to shape up your art later on. :)
oh the only form of copying I am doing now is using picturers for referance to make them look right. all my work is done without coping other peoples styles. right now though I am doing a Faceup on a Monster High doll.
