I have Cybele's Secret out from the library right now, I'm glad to hear that it's good! :D Wildwood Dancing was AMAZING, I'm worried that maybe Cybele's Secret won't live up to it...

I got Blade of Fortrui and the book that comes before it in the trilogy. I can't remember the name I'm afriad. D: But I am very excited! If Wildwood Dancing is anything to judge the rest of her novels by, Juliet Marillier is a fantastic writer.

I just finished Cybele's Secret and it was amazing!
Of course it's different than Wildwood Dancing but it is Paula's story, not Jena's.
But I promise you that if you liked the first one you'll like this one.

The Dark Mirror is the first in the Bridei Chronicles.
I'm just going to tell you that Wildwood Dancing is a young adult novel as well is Cybele's Secret. The rest of hers are adult novels with more adult material. Of course she is tasteful but there can be hard parts but that makes the outcome that much more worth it. You should definitely read Daughter of the Forest too. From reading the way you respond to books this one will really rile you up at times. I mean I wanted to inflict SERIOUS pain on the main opponent in the story.
But yes, Juliet Marillier is fantastic!

Ah... The world of adult fantasy has been turbulent for me, but I trust Juliet Marillier to not scare me away. :P My first few adult fantasy books were only mediocre, then one was EXTREMELY explicit and I didn't even read past chapter four or so, and then I just read one that was all around crappy, so I retreated back into young adult fantasy. Then I stuck my neck back out into adult fantasy and was mesmerized and astounded by Jane Lindskold's fantastic books! And I have a good feeling that Juliet Mariller will add onto my list of good adult fantasy.

I will keep that one in mind, thanks for the recomendation! :) Nothing is more fun for me than reading books that make me react strongly with any emotion.

Well of Shades probably is the most explicit and really I'm the type that would rather have the "I love you, let's kiss and cuddle" thing but some people would say it adds to the story. I think it's a good book with or without any of it.

I think you'll like it. I just love The Six Swans fairy tale anyways and Marillier breathes life into it and puts great twists in it. Very original especially considering it's a retelling.

I just finished Cybele's Secret like, an hour ago, and I LOVED it. :D I do beleive I have added Stoyan to my list of literary crushes! Duarte was all fine and good, and quite a fun character, but Stoyan really took the cake.

I didn't love it as much as I loved Wildwood Dancing, but oh! I don't even care, it was so good, even with such an excellent book to live up to! I'm afraid I was not very vocal as I read it, but that was because I couldn't read it all in one go, due to school, and couldn't get as thouroughly into it as I could Wildwood Dancing. I put that book down once over the course of reading it. I wish I could have read Cybele's Secret over the summer as well. :( I did cry several times towards the end though, during all that bussiness with Stoyan and Paula. It was so emotional! Call me a sap, but I couldn't help it! D:

Aww, I'm glad you liked it and I'm a sap too. Their story is just so sweet and it had me squeeing toward the end. xD

I finished Child of the Prophecy so I have to buy Heir to Sevenwaters and that will be the end of the Sevenwaters series...that she has written so far anyways.
Then after that all I'll have to read of hers is Foxmask and Wolfskin.

I love fantasy books, too! In my opinion, I think Charles DeLint is the best fantasy novel writer ever! Little (Grrl) Lost and The Blue Girl are the only two books that I've read by him, though. I want to read so many more, but his books are hard to get (especially from the library as a lot of people have holds on them). If you like fantasy novels like I do, check his stuff out. His books are amazing, and very well written.

@`Trixxy:
Wow! I hardly ever run across anyone who has read Charles De Lint! He is very good. I love the gritty-urban fantasy taste of his work. The two books you've mentioned are his only titles for young adults, I think. Pretty much all his other stuff is for adults. Some of it is quite hard-hitting, actually. He often writes in the setting of thtown of Newford, where all kinds of old spirits of the Native peoples and settlers exist alongside bookshops and artists and the homeless. He can be a bit windy, but quite magical :D

Patrica C. Wrede wrote this series of books, the first is Dealing With Dragons. It's got a lot about a sort of ley lines, which is used in an intersting way.

I loved the Dealing with Dragons series! Course I read it like 8 years ago so the details are a bit fuzzy... but they were quite good.

Some of my favorite fantasy books are

The Wayfarer Redemption series by Sara Douglass, The Rhapsody Trilogy by Elizabeth Haydon, The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan and all series from Tad Williams.

Just to name a few that is.

I haven't heard of Juliet Marillier, but I might see if I can find anything by her. I don't suppose anyone can tell me if she's similar to any of the (many) fantasy author's I have read?
I generally find any teen fantasy tedious and I'm long since bored with the works of Eddings, Brooks and just about anything D&D-based like Dragonlance or Drizzt along with similar commercial literature. I've tried reading the Pern-novels but always put them down in disgust.

I liked Mists of Avalon that was mentioned earlier, and I also enjoy Feist/Wurt's Mara-trilogy (though not as much the rest of their respective books) along with Jordan and Goodkind (though the latter half of the Sword of Truth series tends to wander off into philosophical debate a bit too much) as well as the always captivating work of Hobbs.

My absolute favourites, however, are the more complex and intrigue-rich works of Steven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen and George RR Martin's Song of Ice and Fire.

Ugh Mists of Avalon bored me to tears. It was so *long*. Granted I read it when I was 14 and maybe that didn't help... I love the Arthur legends to pieces.. but it just took me forever to get through it.

Song of Ice and Fire on the other hand... excellent stuff.

Martin's plots are brilliant and intricate. I have a tendency to get a little too absorbed in what I read, though, so I ended up somewhat upset at certain parts of the Stark family fate. T__T But I have all the books and love them to bits - including the Hedge Knight comic.

I'm only on the second one (still.. I get distracted) and I agree about getting too drawn in. The Stark family has... awful luck. x_x

Some of my favorite fantasy books are...
Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer

Here's a recommendation list for you! If you like good fantasy, with a pg-13 rating or below....(nothing too detailed) Also nothing too dry, (like too much politics etc) with good characters and fun scenes, here's my recommendations.

(Adult)
Mercedes Lackey (Valdemar books, tales of 500 kingdoms, Bedlam bards)
Robin Mckinley
Elizabeth Kerner (song in the silence) Fall in love with a dragon!
Joanne Bertin The last dragonlord (one of the best meet your soulmate scenes ever, so funny)
terry pratchet (discworld books...specially hat full of sky trilogy)
Robert Asprain (myth books)

(young adult)
Patricia c werde (dealing with dragons)
susan cooper (dark is rising series)

howl's moving Castle (quite different than the movie)
Eragon
Ella enchanted series (theres more!)
inkheart, inkspell, inkdeath

So there's some to get ya started!

In places like the Books forum where only one thread is allowed per book or author, you can post in a thread regardless of how old it is without it being a necro. :) Feel free to PM me if you want me to explain it further!
