I am more a dog person. But I don't mind cats.

I have had and like both. My parents have the dog now, she's 15 years old and still happy. I can't have a dog with my schedule. Well right now I could because I'm unemployed and have all the free time in the world. But typically I'm out of the house for most of the week so having an animal that required more commitment from me to have a happy life just wouldn't be fair to the animal. The cat is fine on her own without us all day and is happy to see us when we get home, then she's off to do her own thing.

my ears are tingling.... y'all talking about pets?? i love cats and dogs so much, but i've never had my own. i think i love dogs more, but i wouldn't get one at this point in my life... maybe in a couple years i'll get a cat, but right now i'm happy to mooch off my friends' pets lol! i totally feel you, Longcat, i'm currently unemployed too so it seems to me right now like i have enough time for a dog, but as soon as i get a job/go back to school, that all goes out the window. -_- especially since i'm fond of sheepdogs, who need a lot of exercise.

Yeah Queen was asking what it was like to own a cat, and then things went from there! Part of being a good pet owner is being able to say that you can't have a pet at a certain moment because you know you wouldn't be able to care for it right. I used to work at a pet store and the number of dogs that came through the training classes that would have been "Good" dogs were just a result of the owners not having the time to spend with the animal. My parent's dog is a cattledog/lab mix and she was nothing but energy as a pup, but there were two kids to spend time with her and my mom kept irregular hours from working at the hospital so there was a good chance that 3 out of 7 days during the week she'd have off, and if she worked the weekends that's 5 out of 7 where someone was home with the dog/

yeah, totally! so many people get pets they're not equipped to care for... i certainly don't wanna make that mistake again. i used to have hamsters, and I'm so embarrassed by how tiny the cages i put them in were, but i just had no idea how to properly care for them. pets need so much more room than people think. tbh, i wouldn't get a dog until i had a yard at the very least.

that sounds like pretty close to ideal situations for that dog! that's how it was with my aunt's black lab and sheepdog/lab mix, she's a bartender so she's able to spend time with them during the day basically every day.

Absolutely! My biggest pet peeve was goldfish. I would regularly try to explain to people why putting a goldfish in a bowl was a death sentence for the animal. I'd get people telling me how they got a goldfish to live for x-months or even a year!!! in a bowl... They had no idea when I would tell them that healthy goldfish live between 40-70 years. and get around a foot in length. I hated selling goldfish for anything other than feeders or ponds.

To be honest. I haven't seen any of the reboot. When I heard about the reboot I started rewatching the old series on Netflix, hoping to catch up so when they finally put it on Netflix I'd be good. But it's still not up. I'm hoping soon though!!!

yeah totally! and beta fish too, omg. i love seeing people with healthy fish that they really care for. 40-70 years, wow!! that's longer than i thought, even. people assume really short lifespans for rodents too, i bet it's the same deal there...

i don't have cable either, so i only saw the first episode. tbh, i prefer the old series from what i've seen, but i'll let you be the judge when you see it. i'm sure it gets better after the first one...

Betas are actually the only fish that will do well in a bowl. But I still suggest the bigger the better. Oh and you can house other fish with beta. When I kept tanks I had a 55gal with tons of fish and live landscaping, that tank had 5 female betas in it. Live plants are key to happy fish. snacks and free oxygen!!

Most rodents don't have long lifespans. Hamsters is like 3 years, rats are between 3-5 years. My niece had a guinea pig that lived 6 years. It really depends case by case. Birds on the other hand live for freaking ever. A parakeet is about 25-30 years. Cockatiel is 30. conures are 40ish. Macaws, African Greys, cockatoos 60-100. These numbers could be off because I'm going purely off my brain and not looking things up.

I'm sure it will be alright. Gillian only looks better and I'm sure she's grown as an actress too. I don't have huge hopes for David, he seems like the kind that just stagnated when he hit his peak.

I was thinking about getting a fish as something to amuse my cat while I'm away at work. I think she might have fun watching it. What do you think Longy?

Unless you want to commit to a relatively large set up and get into all the costs of setting up a tank I'd go with something like this:


If you go for a tank I suggest a 20gal set up min. because all the fish you want to add will either get too big or require schools and a 5 or 10 just won't be big enough. Tank w/filter (it's always a poor filter too) will run you around $80, rocks will be another $10+, soon you're looking at $100+ before fish. then there's up keep. You cannot add fish to a new tank. you have to let it sit and cycle with nothing or live plants in it for 2 weeks or more, then you add like 2 or 3 fish. It's a slow process and no one ever wants to wait it out.
