I got lost at my small community college for a the first week.

I took engineering physics. Two classes, both with labs. Both were incredibly difficult, but strangely I like it now. But only a little.

Weeeeird, Roz. Yeah, my university is really freaking huge.

@Keyori: I'm betting it was calculus based physics. It's a different way of thinking, but I prefer it. I mean, calculus was invented FOR physics. They work much better together than physics and algebra.

I know, right? I have an hour before my stupid grandfather and his awesome wife come over for Mother's Day. How sad is it that I like my step grandmother better than I like my actually related to me grandfather.

I mostly used applied Calc for circuit analysis. Which was another awfully difficult class. Except for some reason calc was not a prerequisite, which made no sense since you have to know calculus to do anything with inductors or capacitors. 9_9

That is really silly, Keyori. I think sometimes colleges don't really think about things too hard.

Or better yet, getting snippy with you when you're asking a simple question, and then months later finding the paperwork you sent in months ago! Happened to me once. I'm still not clear on what happened, but I requested a placement for my practicum, ended up having to do a run around, only to be told by a friend that the person who had sniped at me via email found my stuff a month after the whole fiasco happened! It's why I prefer not to deal with beauracracy through email anymore. It only leads to trouble.

And Pre-Cal killed me in high school. It's why I never even thought about taking Calculus my senior year.

I"m going to go to the college and hopefully be able to talk to someone. -_-

Go make friends with the secretaries of everyone important the first day. Bring them some cookies or a cup of coffee or just come in and talk to them. It makes it a looooot easier to talk to them when you need help. And they also know everything. Even sometimes ways to get around the red tape.

Yes, make friends with the secretaries. Especially department secretaries. For example, all music students know Ms. Kathy very well because we all know that even though the Dean of the School of the Arts has his office next door, it's Mr. Kathy who gets things done. The secretaries are the real power in the school. And generally they want to help you out if it's within their power.

And another piece of advice: if you're talking to them at the very end or very beginning of a semester, be extra nice. Those are really busy times and depending on what the particular person does, they could be swamped with duties. That is probably when a strategic cookie would be the most appreciated.

Hello all, sorry for my absence. Teaching is pretty hectic right now. Back home school is out for the year, but here, well, Koreans start their school year at the beginning of March so needless to say I am gonna be busy for awhile.

I graduated only to find myself back where I started... teaching this time. I don't mind though. Just rather be the student is all.

It's a sculpture I need to make out of found-objects. I know my idea for it now. I just need to go out when I'm able and scavenge things I might be able to use.
