I also don't think that marrying someone always does prove commitment.

Also, if things don't go right, it takes a lot more time and effort to get out of a marriage.

in the case of Clocks partner being an American,
marriage might have to happen for Clocks partner to move here, and etc.

but Clock doesn't NEED marriage.

One of my Nan's was the same.
My parents never married and when I was born she refused to know me. Until she actually saw me. Apparently babies aren't easy to hate. xD

Babies are cute, when they are someone elses,
and Clock can give them back at the end of the day.

Perhaps it's none of my business, but there are actual benefits to being married.
When you marry, the (American) government gives you a tax break. Yep, you save money by being married.
Also, you can fill out a joint tax return.
This gives you a greater tax refund (especially if you have children!) as well as cutting down the paperwork each person needs to fill out.
Even if you don't feel like you need a piece of paper to show your love, it makes financial sense to get officially married.

And I believe after seven years of living together, two people are considered married by common law.
I didn't look that one up recently though, so it may be different.
