 Oh my god! That's a first! I don't think I've ever met a girl before who has never had her nails done!!! Wow, you should really try it some time, even if it's just a manicure. Make sure you go to a reputable place, though. Not just any old place.

I guess I've just never really been a frilly type girl. I also don't wear make-up. I buy a new mascara and lip color about once a year but wear it maybe a few times a year.

*nods* yeah, I understand.... I'm not a really frilly type of girl either, and I wear lip balm/chap stick more than any lip stick. BUT, I've always tried to take good care of my nails. It's the one thing I really do care about. I may not always have them polished, or anything like that, but I do try to keep them in good condition. Maybe that's because I used to be really prone to hang-nails? I dunno.

*is about the same* xD

The most I really do is wear lip gloss occasionally. That's my "dressing up." xD

Seriously. xD

My nails are a wreck. After going to the field, my cuticles are in pieces and it took a long time to trim my nails to remove the broken parts. It was so cold that the skin under my nails bled and I didn't feel it till I thawed out. Painful. x_x

I was a very awful nail biter for years, so bad that some of my nails are still warped from it. I would bite into the cuticles and the skin around the nails as well. Then I got sent to Saudi and I guess that's when I pretty much stopped. With all that dirt and dust, it wasn't fun trying to bite my nails and get a mouth full of dirt/dust.

o_o

Some good came out of that then, huh? ^^;

I knew people who chewed at their cuticles so much they were always bleeding and full of sores. D:

That's about how mine were, Tori. They were bad. Like I said, some of my nails are still actually warped. Mostly the thumbs.

I actually didn't mind being over there when I went. But there were some things that had happened in my life that could make any situation seem not as bad as it could be. I'll say this, I believe it's harder on the ones left behind than it is the ones gone-and I've been in both situations.

 Wow! That's pretty severe!

I never did that... I mean, I would occasionally chew ON my nails, but never bit them off... I always preferred ripping/tearing them to biting... I never got beyond the "quick" at the ends though, so no sores or cuticle biting. I'm not sure when that really stopped though. some time in High School I think?

I'm glad you were able to stop, though, Echo. And, I'm sorry to hear that you've had such serious troubles in your life. I do know what it feels like to be 'left behind' as you put it though.

Oh, don't feel sorry for me. We all have or will go through many things in our lives. I'm probably just older than many of you so I've had more happen.

Yup, I've been the wife raising the kids while hubby was away in Panama for two years, and I've been the one to leave my husband and two babies behind to go overseas. It was much harder being the one left behind with the home and family to take care of.

*hugs Echo* Yeah...I don't look forward to what it's going to do to my family when it's my time to go. I remember what it was like when Iraq first started and my dad was there. I mainly worry about my mom. :<

Mmm... my ex-husband was in the Navy, and it was never fun when he went on his med cruises which could last up to six months... but, I was actually talking about my mom... she's gone, and my dad just passed in 2007.

Sorry to hear about your dad, Jade. Hopefully, your mom will be fine in the long run.

It's always tough being left behind. You have so much more responsibility than the one who's gone and you have to do it on your own.

*hugs Aryah* T_T Sorry to hear your parents have left you so soon...

I remember when I was at MEPS the first time to do the physical, sign up and swear in, most of the girls there were going into the Navy. Their recruiters convinced them that the longest they'd be out at sea would be two weeks. I was like...someone's being lied to...Sure, maybe they'll stop at a port here and there, but they'll be out for six months on average. For the most part, my recruiter was pretty honest with me. Only difference was he was infantry and didn't know TOO much about any of the medical jobs...

They thought it was strange I was going to the Army...Said I didn't look like an Army recruit. More like Air Force or Navy. After looking at the Air Force PT test...how I wish I went there...T^T

Oops, wait, did your mom pass away as well as your dad, Jade? If so, that's really sad to have them both gone so close together.

I tried to go for Marines first, but at the time they gave me a BS line. See I only lacked a half year English to get my diploma and I dropped out. I went back through adult ed and got it. It IS a diploma NOT a GED. Marines tried to say they didn't accept those. Bull-if I hadn't said anything, they'd never know the difference. It's a diploma with my original high school on it. I think they had reached their quota at that time is all because they kep saying "we don't accept that "at this time"". Anyway, I just went across the street to the Army. Didn't really bother me as my dad did 20 years Army.

@TK:  funny... my sister said the exact opposite when I told her what my requirements would be if I went into the army. But then, I'm older than you. :P

yeah, my sister is a dental assistant in the air force... My dad was in the air force, soo... yeah...

@Echo: Umm, My mom died a long time ago. I think when I was around 10? She was in a coma before that, since before I went into pre-school... soo... yeah... The only one left is my step mom, and aunts and uncles (of which I have a LOT) I don't really feel the loss of my Mom as much now, after all this time, but it was really hard when I was younger. little kids just don't understand.

Ok, I understand now. It had to be hard for you. My husband died back in 2000. My youngest was only 3 1/2 at the time. It finally really hit me not long ago that he's not really going to have any true feelings about his dad nor miss him. How do you love someone or miss someone that you never knew? You can't. Poor thing. Worse is because he's just a kid, he's going to think he's a horrible person for not feeling anything. But I've talked with him and told him it's perfectly normal. He's a good kid though, that's for sure.

Well, don't speak too soon on that. I still loved my mom, and I do have memories of her, even though I was so young. I mean, nothing will make up for never really getting to know her. Not even the stories that family tell me. But, at least it's something. And, at least your kid has you to keep his dad alive for him! That's better than not having anything at all.

He doesn't remember his dad at all. He only "knows" him through me and his brother and sister. It's true, he had a dad, a good dad. But at the same time he didn't. He does really well though. He's a lot younger than my other two, who are 23 and 19. Now THEY knew their dad.

 Well, like I said. You all can keep his dad "alive" for him.

My dad wasn't the talkative or emotional type, so I never really got that from him with my mom... just my brother who's 10 yrs older, and my grandma... but my grandma's kinda nuts and my brother is from a previous marriage of my dad's so, his stories aren't always so pleasant.

But, anyway, it's pretty late here, and I've got to be working again tomorrow, so I am going to head to bed.

Good night!
