@Niamh- Good luck on the scholarships competitions.
@`Kitami- After you get done with school you'll be making a lot more than me as a poor teacher.

Yay for teachers! So far, teaching is the most appealing job for me. It utilizes every strength that I have, and would allow me to help people. I'm peer tutoring next year for my present English teacher, and he's going to allow me to help teach the class. It's so exciting!

Kitami-- Are you close to completing your GED?
English and history are also classes that I'm fond of, though with a definite emphasis on English. :P

@Niamh -I've always wanted to be a teacher. Fall semester I start my observation class. I get to go to school and be the teacher's helper. I'm actually really suprised on how many people are going into be teachers, although most of the ones I know are going for highschool.
What grade are you going for? I want to teach 2nd grade.

*hides*

I'm one of those who wants to teach highschool. I think it will provide the greatest challenge, for me-- by highschool, the kids who need the most help are the ones who haven't really been taken care of in younger years. It's also a really emotionally challenging time period, but it's balanced by the fact that most kids at that age are capable of communicating to some degree and are semi-aware of where their problems stem from.

Because of the myriad of intellectual and emotional challenges involved, I think I can do the most good in that age group. I think teachers at a high school level are part therapist as well.

I love younger kids (I still play like one, and I'm sure that's why), but I'm not sure how good I would be at teaching them.

@Niamh- I think it's great that you want to be a high school teacher. I could never do it. Someone would make a farting noise and I would freak out. With little kids I would be a lot more understanding.
I think your right. At this age group you could help out a lot of people.

Lilith- Aww, but teachers are awesome. :3 They should get paid more, in my opinion.
I wanted to be a teacher until I got into psychology.
Just when you become a teacher, don't be like my high school teachers. They were total f-ckers. :stare:

Niamh- No, I'm enrolling in the prep classes next week. :yes: I'm behind due to circumstances that were out of my control.
I was more interested in English and literature than history all through school (and I'm still a total grammar Nazi.) but since I dropped, I've kinda been studying history on my own and I'm really into it now.

@`Kitami- They should get paid more. They are making the people who will run the future.
I'm the exact opposite of you. If teaching doesn't work out for me I plan on going into psychology.
I would never be a f-cker. I plan on being a fun teacher.

People throw away perfectly good folders? o__o I have a strange propensity to damage ringbinders (I have no idea how it happens... I'm quite careful with them; something about my black hole of a rucksack busts them), but usually hold on to them, and let them going into early retirement at home for last year's notes.

xD; And I cover them with wrapping paper and stickers to personalise them.

c: I have a combined scholarship at my sixth form (it's a public school; my family are quite well off... the fees are a push, and the money off helps) in Academic subjects English and History (but I switched the latter for Psychology lessons), Art, and Textiles. I don't want to give any of my subjects up for University (I'm taking Art, Psychology, and English at the moment... our last set of exams are coming up.)

@kit: I didn't like my high school teachers either, except the ones I had for senior yr were really nice to me, because I was the oldest in my class, but people still thought I was a freshman if they didn't know me, so I guess my teachers were apathetic or something. Lol.

@Lilith: My brother was majoring in psychology for a yr, until he took all the advanced classes and than one day he turned to me and said, "I f-cking HATE psychology~!" Soooo, now he changed his major again for, what feels like, the hundredth time. ><

@chait: I'm kinda the opposite, I NEVER decorate my folders, binders or notebooks... I just put my name somewhere on it so people don't accidentally take it or something... I have sooo many artistic doodles and drawings in my notebooks though... I tend to get bored in class & than just draw my classmates. Haha.

Whats your majors? I'm in medicine, but I haven't decided on a specific field yet. How do you like the psychology classes? Thats something I have to take, but I'm not looking forward to it...Thats the one type of medicine I haven't fully grasped.

I have a huge collection of random pieces of coloured and patterned paper - every so often I feel guilty that I'm probably going to have it till I'm fifty, and decide to do something with it. xD I too doodle on my paper, in the margins. x3 Usually with highlighters, too. xDD

Our system is a bit different to yours - we don't major. cx We gradually specialise. In my school, we have to take English language and literature, Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, double or single award), Maths, a modern foreign language (German, French, Spanish), a humanity (History, Geography, Religious Studies), then arts are optional (Drama, Art, Music). We can also take Latin. And, before GCSE, when the staples are still compulsory, we have to take all of those. xOO I loved Latin, actually... I'd have rather taken that than German. xDD

Then for A-level, I honed it down to the subjects I'm taking today... Then you can go on to University, and while there are combined courses, the subjects have to be complementary (for example, you can do English Literature and have to take a language at York, or English and Philosophy... but it's rare you can do things like English and Art together...) which, I think I understand, isn't the case elsewhere?

cx As for Psychology, I'm so HAPPY I ditched history... I came a month late into the Psychology class, but caught up, and did really well in the first exam. Plus, I just find it fascinating. Our course is heavily science-based, and in our coursework, we get to run our own experiments... we also do applied - Clincal (depression and schizophrenia), Crimology, and Child Development - as well as learning about the different approaches. I like the science side, because otherwise my lessons are heavily arts-based. cx

Our puppy was trying to bite my arm, and now she's pulled a pair of knickers out the laundry... Dx

I was going to recommend Bigwords for books, but Niamh got there ahead of me. It's a great site for cheap books. You can also get more money back for your book if you sell them online.

I liked the dorms my first year there, because I had a great hall. Everyone there hung out and got along well. My second year in the dorms, I was older than everybody and all my friends lived elsewhere, so I didn't have the same experience. Plus, I wanted a kitchen.

I used both scholarship and financial aid to pay for my schooling. Everything costs.

I love college as a whole. I studied linguistics and I'm trying to get into postgraduate school to become a children's librarian. I hope to work with children who are learning English as a Second Language, and take night courses after I've started my career, going towards a phD in linguistics.

I want to work with kids, but I don't want to be a teacher. I think I can be really helpful developing literacy programs, though.

@chait: Cool, I love colored paper!
Well, all the classes sound the same, except for the Latin... It was never required to learn that or any other ancient language. I took German in high school, but I didn't enjoy it that much... There was no Latin class, otherwise I KNOW I would have taken it cause I love old languages... And since so much of English and German is Latin, it would have made more sense, cause honestly, I don't know any German people & I can't afford to go to Europe. I'm sooo poor. XD

I don't know... I mean, in my college you can anything combined or singular, depending on your major's requirements. I'm going to medical school, so I'm mostly taking all Science classes right now, but you have to take English, Math, sociology, and history for general education, which everyone must pass to get a degree...

Lucky Duck. I HATE my history class... My teacher is sooo hard, you have to know the birth and death of everyone on the exams and I'm so bad at dates. D:
Psychology does sound interesting, I have to take that next semester....

Aww, cute puppy. <3

@joie: Thanks for the advice. I have about a hundred books I want to sell and I need cash quick!
Same here, I MUST have a kitchen, cause I can't afford to eat out and I HATE fast food and junk food... I make most of my meals or my chef friend cooks for me.

Thats good... I've had the WORSE luck getting scholarships. I keep applying, but they keep ignoring meeee! D: *sob*

One or my research papers is on linguistics... Do you know anything about Altaic or Nastratic???
It takes FOREVER to become a librarian... Lots of schooling, well, good luck Joie!

@Chaitealatte- I love to personalize my binders too. Good luck on your exams. I'm done with this semester. I get a two week break then its summer school.

@Thoth Star- I hope that I like teching but you never know. My step-sister is the same way. She has not even started college yet and she has changed at least five times. Right now she is going into pharmacy.

@JoieD- I think its funny, I don't really like kids (like baby sitting), but I love to teach them. Not having a kitchen seems like it might be a really big problem for me. I'm not a big cook, but I love having a kitchen. So far I love college too. The teachers no longer treat us like we're 10.

I have a question of the absolute utmost importance:

I just got back from the Iron Man movie, and it has me feeling extremely nostalgic for the classic comics. I'd love to reread them, but I do not own any.

Does Marvel make their comics available online?
Sometimes a company will scan sample pages onto a website, or make a couple issues available to the public for free. I was just wondering if you guys know of any sites that host Marvel (or DC) art.

And if at all possible, I'd like the site to be legal.

I'm afraid I don't know any, Knerd. My closest brushes to Marvel come from the X-Men movies and TV series. xD; And a small love of The New Adventures of Superman, which I used to watch if I ever I was tucked-up in bed, home sick.

Did I say thank you already for the prize? @__@ I know I meant to! So thank you, in case I did forget!

I remember having to learn a calender of dates for the Cold War. I paced around my bedroom reciting them. I can't remember much now. xD;

All applaud the doodlers and stationary decorators! xD

I'll... hang-on. xD

This is the front and back cover of my homework diary. x3 Totoro stickers, cat stickers, lots of jazzy paper (xDD!), tea, biscuit, and strawberry stickers. And Cinnamon Roll stickers. cx

I ought to update my booklist. x:

@shy_girl: I'm thinking about getting into nursing too... It pays a lot and I love medicine.
Plus, you can get a nursing degree in two yrs...

@lilith: Well, at least teaching is a rewarding field... And it must be interesting to watch children grow and mature. I can be indecisive sometimes, but when it comes to important stuff, like majors, I'm solid in my decisions.

@knerd: I have no clue....@_@

@Thoth Star- Nursing would be a very rewarding field too. You save people's lives. My mom is going to school for her RN next semester. She got her LPN last semester. The really great thing about nursing is you can get a job anywhere.

-hasn't posted in a while-
^^;;

I haven't finished reading any books yet recently, so... ^^;

I don't know when I last left off, so just an update sort of:
I... never finished reading Tris' Book or Magyk, because I had to return them. xP
I might get them and finish them sometime over the summer, though.

I started reading High Fidelity by Nick Hornby, but I've been reading it forever because I've never found time. x______X;;;
I'm almost done, though, but to be honest, I couldn't really follow. .__. ;;
It's too mature for me, I guess; I couldn't understand most of the media references, which there were a lot of, and I couldn't relate to any of it. ^^;
I just sort of wanna finish the book so I can get it over with. xP
I'd just... kind of stop, but I'm almost done anyway, so I might as well finish what I've started, right? >>;

I really liked High Fidelity. I think that I was in high school when I first read it.

Yeah, you really do need to understand the music industry in order to get the finer points of the novel. It's possible to follow the storyline and characters without knowing the bands, but you can get so much out of Hornby's writing if you can use the music to your advantage.

@ knerd:
Yeah, that's what I think. =P
The effect could be so much greater and I would understand and grasp the concept just so much more if I knew all the references. XP Or at least some. .__. ;;;
I was barely born when it was published, so...
