They don't seem to be common in most pet stores that sell snakes around here. Or maybe I just haven't been looking at the right places...Ball pythons are pretty much in all of them though.

@Wrenji: Yeah...I was an idiot as a kid and actually ran towards a giant black cobra longer than my height with its hood flared when I was maybe four or five, wanting to give it a hug, despite knowing that cobras were poisonous.

Yeah.. I guess ball pythons are the most popular snake right now.
I didn't realize that until a month or two after I got Cornelius. I originally wanted a Corn snake.. But when I got to the breeder I just ended up bonding with the first snake I saw >_>

I must have an irrational fear of snakes...you know...probably due to the prevalence of venomous snakes that apparently do end up in peoples backyards around these parts...

Some pet stores sell snakes, though most don't...you'll probably have a higher chance of seeing them in an aquarium than one of those 'cats n' dogs' type of pet store.

And Cornelius is a ball python, so not venomous at all.


@Nuggets: At first I wanted one of those beautiful gold-white snakes, but their full size was a little too large for my home and I'd likely be strangled by one, especially females, if I did. So I'll have to settle for my second-favorite-one-that's-more-often-seen-in-pet-shops-than-others, a ball python.

He's a six year old Dumeril's Boa. I've had him since he was plus or minus six month old. Love him to bits, he is the sweetest little snake ever. He thinks that he can both fly and live under water though. -_-;
I am hoping to make him a new tank soon. His is big enough currently but I want him to have his forever cage.

I have an interesting thing about snakes... if i see one bigger than a garter snake that's just on the ground, i'll shriek and fall on my butt... however if one is handed to me i'll happily hold it or touch it.

There was this one time i was trimming the lawn and a garter snake was chilling in the grass and i hit it with the trimmer! I felt so bad he was fine though. he just slithered away unscathed, but probably a little stunned.

@Cora: Yeah, I've had some misunderstandings in the past when others thought I was being mean/sarcastic/some other emotion other than the one I was actually expressing at the time. One even made a thread in another forum on the site asking others if what I said was meant to be mean or not. (<-- ...Which actually involves this very smiley here.)

@RFIM: Aww!! I wanna hug him! What do you mean he thinks he can fly though? Like he slithers right off a high surface or something?

@Rena: Haha, I'd spend forever trying to discern whether the snake is poisonous or not. If I'm sure it isn't, then I'd start thinking of ways to catch it without getting bitten. I'm glad the poor snake was okay!

Oh my! Haha that does sound like an interesting series of reactions to snakes. Hm, do you have any assumptions as to why they bother you when they're on the ground? Maybe you just like em up close because you can see their adorable smiling faces ehehe. c: Poor little dear. I think like a metric ton of snakes get murdered by lawn mowers every year. It's rather hard to avoid them though, they're so good at staying hidden. ~_~

He tries to fly off into space. When I hold him he likes to slither about and whatnot, and he tends to not realize that he can't just keep going forward! He might have some spatial issues ehehe. He thinks open air is a solid surface or something. >_>

I dunno, perhaps its growing up with my brother and his petrifying fear of snakes....that has caused me to not like them.

I usually just tell people, they will totally know when I am being serious.

I'd like a snake.
But I want fish more.

I don't think I was afraid of any particular animal growing up...but as I aged, for some reason worms, maggots, and the like have started creeping me out and now I can't stand them, along with some other types of bugs.

Worms are weird.
Maggots are cool but creepy.
I'm kinda afraid of big dogs.

But man if we're making lists of things we're afraid of my list is pretty long.
