If it's salty then it's soup to me, even if it's cold and tastes weird.

That sounds a lot more like juice than soup to me, to be honest. o.o
I must look into this cold soup thing.

酸梅湯 is sort of a combination between sweet and salty...not really one of my favorite drinks. @__@;;

There're actually salty 湯圓s too~ But yeah, most of them are sweet it seems...I'm quite fond of them despite the high calories they have.

There are salty ones? O__O
D: you sure it is not because they mistaken salt as sugar?

I like 汤圆s....both sweet and savoury. must admit I've had the sweet ones more often though...peanut filling.

haha...google translate calls them dumplings...but there are ones that don't even have fillings...and are usually smaller...I know they're made with sticky rice flour...so sticky rice balls?

... dumplings? Nah... dumplings are far more salty and delicious.
Too small to call dumplings in my opinion.

Dumplings is a bad translation in my opinion too...though 汤圆 are tasty too.

I like the peanut kind. Sesame's pretty good too.

And I have no idea who added the peach.

Are they like a type of mochi? I like that stuff.

Now that you mention it... they do look a lot like Mochi.
*shakes head* Poor Chinese culture, not as popular as Japanese. XD

Whaaat. There are way more Chinese restaurants in the States than Japanese, I think.
Now, the authenticity of the food is a whole different story.

They are textually similar to mochi, also sticky, but those sweet ones, black sesame and peanut filling are depicted in those pics, usually served hot in a sweet coconut milk based soup...apparently some people have died from burning of the throat from eating ones that have fillings that are too hot.
