Well I don't really like the noise they make, and their fur isn't very soft. They chew on everything, and kinda smell... >.<

I'm still sad about my hamster. I don't know what happened exactly but he had a problem with his eye and passed away the day I was to take him to the vet. T_T

I didn't know they could get big. I've only seen a few of them but they never seemed that big.

It's the second pet I lost. He wasn't even a year old so I felt sad that he hadn't really lived a long life. I know they don't live that long to begin with but still...

okay, cage is all dismantled, washed, and in the dish dry rack ... hamsters are in their jumbo box with toys and such running around.

How many do you have? I remember that the kind I got was territorial and shouldn't be housed together as adults.

Yeah. My cat was the hardest, it was really tragic. In the case of the hamster I felt like it was my fault and the feelings of guilt made it even harder to get over.

I can well relate to the feelings of guilt.

I had to put my dog down last year just a day after his 7th birthday. it turned out he had a large lump in his stomach. I constantly beat myself up about not having him checked out by the vet sooner, question myself if his quality of life had started to decline sooner than I noticed, that I simply didn't notice!

crazy: I was sad when my beta fish died...but I was like seven when we had Andrew. xD Yes, we named him Andrew. Don't beat yourself up about it. Even if they found it early on...they might not of been able to take it out if they found it...I don't know.

zig: I cried a lot when a few of my cats were hit by a car or died from something else. Especially Aud...He was my favourite kitty in the whole wide world, Teddy is too though...but he doesn't really hang out with me that much.

That cat was the first one I'd ever had. I'd always wanted a cat and finally my mom let me get one in third grade. He practically grew up with me.

well, one the one hand I have my parents who found out there was a growth in their dog's belly and had it surgically removed and that was 2 years ago and the dog is fine. but on the other hand I was watching Animal Cops and the guy had taken his dog in for a yearly visit and they found a growth and just immediately put the dog down because there wasn't anything they could do for him and wanted him to go to rest before he could start being in pain or such.

Life long companions are very hard to let go when they die. My grandma was really sad when her cat Nancy died. She had had her ever since Nancy was about 1? Maybe 2 years old.

crazy: sometimes the best thing you can do for an animal is out them down. :c

yeah. I just wish sometimes you could see into the future, of the two options you have to be able to choose best.

They think my cat might have had cancer in his pancreas. In the end he lost a lot of weight and it was hard to even put him down because the veins didn't want to take the extra liquid. It was so traumatic and everything moved so fast that it was hard to take. I'd been telling my mom that we should take him to the vet but she was scared and didn't want to. I'm afraid her delaying might have made things worse. I'm not sure they could have done anything for him but his last night wasn't very good. I wonder if it might not have been a little more comforting if we had taken him sooner. It's a really hard decision to make and come to terms with the result. I was happy to at least be home for it, to be able to say goodbye to him.

zig: That might have been the reason, but if you did take him to the vet and they couldn't do anything about it then you would have probably had to put him down.

crazy: if we did that then we would get depressed and worried about stuff that happens in the future...like if you go hit b a car of got killed or something.

yeah, the same with my dog and my sister's, the veins were so small because they hadn't eaten or drank anything for a couple days ...

and the worst thing is the whole nagging thought of, maybe if I wait a little way longer he/she will bounce back from this! and then we end up with where we are. it is SO hard!!!! and expensive! why??

no, not all the time, just big decisions, you know. like, choosing your major or something ... marrying a certain person ... stuff like that ...

@ Momo: That's what my mom was afraid of and she didn't want to give him up but I still think we should have taken him sooner before it got that bad.

@ Crazy: Yeah, those nagging thoughts are the worst. That was a real big problem for me when my hamster passed away. I blamed myself and thought, "If I had done this or that he might still be here."

I could use that future predicting thing right now. I'm trying to make a really big decision in my life at the moment.

well, it's like when I miscarried 12 years ago. if I could have seen:

a.) if I walk to town to try and get some work, what will happen to my being pregnant and how that would effect having future children

-OR-

b.) take the walk and lose the babies but end up getting pregnant a year or so down the road and have my son that I have now ...

He was the man of the house. It was just my mom and I and I think we both really depended on him to always be there. When we'd come home he'd always be there waiting at the door for us.

----------

Here's a picture of him before he got all skinny:

I have a million more because we were ALWAYS taking pictures of him so that provides some comfort.
