I probably wouldn't use it at all. Wouldn't even visit it to find other threads. But it isn't such a bad idea. Would be helpful for people of the art forum or something.

I love this idea... I wouldn't actually mind either if the staff randomly advertised certain sections of the forums that weren't getting much attention either if there wasn't many listings... I might be tempted to use it as my poetry hangout could use a little life...
Also would be a great way to advertise events during their run-time
Plus it would help cut inflation if it was popular enough as people would have less gold (also good for those users complaining they've got too much gold >.>")

I can see how some people could benefit from it, but I don't see myself ever using it. If I want to see what's going on in a forum, I just surf around or use Spy to see what's popular. It would probably become just another place that I didn't visit or browsed through once before wandering off.
I wouldn't use it for my threads either. Some of them are crazy enough as it is

Are we talking cash money or Mene gold money? Either way, I highly doubt I'd use it. I don't have a charity or do RPs or anything like that... So, I have nothing advertising-worthy.
I also don't know that I would browse the forum. It would seem more like a popularity contest to me, I guess. I don't really know how to explain it.

I'm not totally jazzed about if this were to come out, but I do have to agree with many others here in that it sounds like a good idea. I don't know what type of prices you have in mind but so far it looks like something that I would use on occasion to advertise my own threads and also look at other people's threads. As far as testing the waters go, it doesn't sound like there'd be any harm in at least trying it out. :)
You know what, on second thought, it comes to mind that gaia has become a mess (in my opinion) with all of the different advertisements and companies to the point it feels as if you are sifting through spam. If this were to be more of a focus of what the homely community of menewsha is creating on their time here, then by all means, go for it. If it is just a bunch of rubbish where it becomes totally impersonal, it is a waste of time. But I really don't see it becoming the latter unless a repeat in history unfortunately falls on us. So just as an ending note, if you do end up doing this, keep it friendly and keep it... eh, how to put it. Cute. I mean that in contrast to a big name company kind of standard. Please and thank you. =)

I think it would benefit a lot of threads, for instance the art competitions forum may get some more life directed into it - from this feature. I'm not sure if I would use it personally, but it would be nice to know it is there. If it is a manageable feature to implement I don't really see any problems with it. I quite like it, and would be interested to see how much traffic flow differs, to threads that utilise this feature. It would be nice to know, how it is working =)

If it costs real money, I highly doubt it will be used much and it will just be a waste of space. I also think that users are not going to use it enough to actually have it be useful. Personally, I would probably never even visit the forum.

I never make threads that need advertising, so that side of it wouldn't be useful to me.
I can't really say how often I might browse it, but I do think it would be a useful way to find out about areas of the site that I don't normally visit. Also, if we're going to have internal advertising, I would far prefer it to be centralized like this than spread throughout the site.
So, I'm sorta on the fence. I might use it, I might not. I wont really know until I see it. <shurg>

If it is controlled maturely and wouldn't have too much of an effect on us all then fine, I guess it could work.
I'm just a firm believer in "Good Conversation/Topics/Kindness brings people together in threads" not "adverts brought me here".

I agree completely with that last statement. I much rather start my charity (whenever that will happen) and have people go there either because they can have a good conversation with others/ meet like-minded people/ or possibly because they are looking for a bit of kindness. Advertising can be done word-of-mouth with about the same effects, I believe.
Does this mean I am against it? Not really. It is a novel idea and one that, if done with the right intentions, could be successful. I also think that charging real money over gold might help with the site's funds but I'm sure most members can't afford to always pay for Mennies for the new CIs each month and would be a bit harder to come up with the money to advertise their threads. But it might be helpful if you try both money payments and gold payments to see which form is used more and go with that.

I really don't think this is necessary. Mene's not all that big and it's not hard to find which threads are really active and which aren't. Usually, if a thread isn't very active, there's a good, or at least decent, reason for it to be inactive. I know I wouldn't want to pay to tell people about a thread of mine when I can just put up a page prize or some kind of game within the thread to attract people which will keep the thread on the first page anyways.
