Are you referring to a CD/DVD drive or a hard drive disk? I'm guessing it's a hard drive.
I would first make sure any valuable information is backed up.
To answer your question where the drivers are located go to Control Panel > Device Manager. Peruse the categories (Disk drives, DVD/CD-ROM drives, etc) and then click the drop down tab on the category you're looking for. Find your device (HDD, CD/DVD/Whatevers) > Right click the device name > Click "properties" from the drop down menu > Click driver. You can attempt to look for an update for your driver.
However I'm wagering that's not going to solve the problem but it's worth a shot.
The primary priority is to find out what's going on and also whether it's a logical or physical error. If you do not hear grinding, whirring, or clicking noises coming from your hard drive there's a good chance it's not a physical error.
So let's figure out what's going on. Luckily Windows keeps logs of these problems!
In the Windows start menu search for "reliability monitor." Once it comes up in the search open it. Once open look for a category called "critical events." Inside of that category there should be a list of problems. The disk error may be the only error displayed here. If there's multiple options find whatever seems to fit the bill. It should be pretty self explanatory saying something like "driver crash" "disk failure" or some such. Anyways, right click the problem and select "view technical details." This should should bring up a report on your issue.
Either copy the error summery or print screen and upload an image of the summery.
Another source for finding useful logs is through the "event viewer." Another program that you can search in the Windows start menu. However the event viewer will most likely store many other events and not just errors. Look for Windows Logs > Click "system" > and look for subjects titled "errors." The reliability monitor should have the error so using the event viewer is probably not necessary. I just wanted to state the option.
Also, if the problem happens again and you get the "now recovered" box there should be a option to view the details of the crash.
While there are third-party programs that can search for hard drive errors I would suggest using a free and already available option. The directions can be found at this link: Check your hard disk for errors
Don't forget to back up your important files!

For active protection against virus/trojen/malware/worms/spyware/scareware/and rabid killer lamas I use Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes (with the file system protect filesystem protection things.) I also use adblock and noscript with my browser.
I try to keep it nice and simple ^^.

Sounds like you were going about it the right way... Might be running into some problems because it's windows xp and they are stingy on their updates. Maybe try this link directions, since it's for xp Professional? Microsoft Corporation- East Asian Languages
Also, what program requires xp on a pc anyways? o-O

I wish programs didn't require certain OS support... that's really annoying, especially since I prefer Linux OS and you have to know what you're doing to get stuff like Netflix and Sims to work on it... still cant manage to get Sims to work *sigh*

So your main problem is downloading the Japanese language to your windows? Go to control panel - to the language option in there - a window will pop up - go to "keyboards and languages" tab - click on "change keyboards" - press "add" - select the language you want to download - press "apply" and that's it!
If it still doesn't help - try updating your xp to service pack 3. Perhaps it's a bug and updating your system might help

Whisper's hint on the professional stuff sorted it all out. I ran into some other problems, but amazingly (to me) they went away when I downloaded a different file viewer than I already had -shrugs-

Ok this is sooooo important please help me asap!!!!
My other computer doesn't work. I turn it on, the screen is blank. I switched screens to see if the problem is with the screen, the other screen didn't show anything too.
Nothing happens. No peep no anything. The fans inside the pc are working, the leds are on, but nothing happens!!
I have a graphic's card. So I switched the video cable to the built-in plug inside the pc. Everything's the same.
I took out the video card, replaced the memory cards, tried to clean the inside of the computer as much as I could, nothing. Nothing!
I tried to turn on computer with motherboard and memories attached only (no hard disk, no graphic's card, no cd-rom), everything's the same..
What else can I do?? ))): My conclusion is that if I have luck, I just have to buy a new PSU. And if I don't have luck, perhaps i'll have to buy a new motherboard/processor?? ))):
Pleasee this is important to me this computer is very important
