I Love candy corns... Just not to eat. Lol such a cute entry! I can't wait to see more! When I get home from work tonight I'll update the entries post.

There are tons of Halloween treats: popcorn balls, caramel apples, or bobbing for apples if your adventurous, toasted pumpkin seeds, specific candy bars, I would love to see it all. Like I said think outside the box and surprise me!

You could still do candy corn. There are so many items here on Mene, I don't think you could come up with the same avatar. Plus there are different types of candy corn

Candy corn is a sweet replicate of dried corn kernels. It's considered a "mellow cream," a name for a type of candy made from corn syrup and sugar that has a marshmallow-like flavor. And although candy corn tastes rich, it's actually fat-free. ^.^

Gizzie,s Homemade Candycorn recipe ^.^
This candy corn turns out so soft and delicious, and the best part - it can be made into any colors and shapes that you want!z

STEP 1:

1 1/4 cups powdered sugarz6 1/2 teaspoons nonfat dry milkz1/4 teaspoon kosher salt1/2 cup granulated sugarz1/3 cup light corn syrupz2 1/2 tablespoons water2 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract2 or 3 drops each yellow and orange food coloring (gel or paste versions will make the colors brighter)

STEP 2:

Combine the powdered sugar, dry milk and salt in a food processor. Pulse a few times to make sure the mixture is smooth and lump free.zCombine the granulated sugar, corn syrup and water in a 2-quart pot. Place over medium heat, cover and cook for 4 minutes. Add the butter, clip on a candy thermometer and bring the sugar syrup to 230 degrees F, 1 to 2 minutes. Remove from the heat and remove the thermometer.Add the vanilla and the dry mixture and stir until well combined. Pour onto a half sheet pan lined with parchment paper. Cool for 10 to 15 minutes. When the mixture is cool enough to work with, it should stop sticking to the parchment paper. If it's still sticky after 15 minutes or so, put it in the fridge for awhile. A cool kitchen is a huge help for this project.z

STEP 3:

Divide the dough into 3 parts.Leave one white.Add yellow food coloring to one, and orange to the last one. Wearing a glove for this helps keep your hands from being stained. Also, working from yellow to orange keeps the yellow from being tainted by any orange residue that may linger on your hands.z

STEP 4:

Roll each color into a long rope. If you want small, classic sized candy corn pieces, you'll have to divide each color and work it "batches" - I only did one rope of each (about 3' long) and my candy corn was giant! - about 1.5"zLine each rope up with the others (you'll have half with the classic order is yellow, orange, white - and the other half reversed)zFold the parchment paper over your 3 ropes, and gently roll along the length (just enough to press them together)

STEP 5:

Using a sharp (non-serrated) knife, cut the strip into triangles, alternating the direction of the tips.You'll want to keep a warm, damp towel nearby to clean the knife every few cutszMove cut pieces to more wax or parchment paper, and allow to dry for at least an hour (I let mine set overnight)z

STEP 6:

Unlike store bought candy corn, these will stick together!zStore them in an airtight container, with a sheet of parchment paper between each layer.
Also these taste yummy with a touch of honey added most store brands contain honey ^.^

cotton candy has so many names!!! in Quebec its "Barbe due papa" (sp?) which is directly translated to father's beard! and you just called its fluffy sugar... which is probably the best description of what it is.

We actually call it candy floss lol but it's just so fluffy :3 I might try making candy corn, it seems pretty popular, it must be good :)

see! so many names! that stuff is crazy. no one knows what to call it, but its sooooo good. lol. i think thats one of the reasons i like it so much. all the crazy names.

I call it cotton candy, but I've even heard it called spun sugar. Love everyone's entry! So creative and halloweeny! :D I hope we get some more entries! I'd love to see more!
