Melrose reached the castle's front gates about half a second before Skeith and said with a pout, "Hey! You know I hate it when you do that just cuz I"m a girl." She didn't bother waiting for a reply as she went through the tall, dark gates, up the dirt path, and into the gargantuan front room of the castle, where servants and other people were bustling around, preparing for the arrival of Skeith, their ruler.

Bored, Melrose wrote a quick note in her pretty, elegant handwriting telling Skeith that she was going out and would be back later, and handed it to one of the guards, telling him to give it to Skeith once he got in. Then, Melrose went outside into the dark surrounding forest, then back into the town/city/village place, strolling along the dark, barren streets. The few humans who were still out quickly ran into their houses at the sight of her, no doubt scared to death at the sight of a vampire. Melrose sighed, and leapt onto the roof of the tallest building and sat down, wrapping her arms around her knees, watching the dark night sky.

She placed her hand out and idly created a long rose vine from the ground that reached all the way up to where she sat. She picked the red rose off, staring at the soft red petals, but accidentally pricking herself on one of the thorns; luckily, she had created it without the poison this time, so she wouldn't die of poisoning. Melrose watched as a scarlet drop of blood appeared on the tiny cut on her thumb and, without thinking, brought her thumb up to lick and drink up the blood. A dull roar of fire burst in her throat, signaling that she would have to hunt again soon. Melrose continued to suck on her thumb and began counting the stars in the sky- a habit she had gotten since she had all of eternity to count.

Kaer'lic abruptly woke up. Dreams of his past bringing from his slumber. He rose from the bed and since he never bothered to undress in the first place, he walked out of his apartment and into the night. He walked through the streets, no one was around to be seen, until of course Kaer'lic noticed a figure on a rather tall building. Curiosity getting the better of him, he went around to the side of the building to get up and behind the figure. As graceful as his race of dark elves were, it was hard to be silent while climbing a busted up building such as this one. He reached the roof where the figure still and silent. "Hello" Kaer'lic said to Melrose.

"Hello," Melrose answered back in her soft, melodic voice without even turning around to see who it was. Her enhanced nose told her that he was a dark elf, and since his scent was familiar, Melrose guessed that he was probably the same one that she and Skeith had met back at the bar. "What are you doing out here in the middle of the night?" She asked.

"I enjoy the darkness." Kaer'lic stood there, still, trying to determine whether he would be attacked by this particular creature of the night. He remembered her. The vampire girl from the bar. "Would you mind if I sat down beside you?" He asked politely.

Melrose finally turned her so that she was looking at him and a friendly smile was on her pretty face, "I suppose you have to like the darkness since it's always dark......and sure, go ahead and sit...as long as you don't puke on me though," she grinned and touched the rose vine, killing it and sending itcrumbling back into the ground.

Kaer'lic chuckled at the remark. "Yeah it was not my finest moment was it." He took a seat next to the girl. He looked over to her and said, "So, am I to assume that we should consider each other enemies?, I would hate to have to fight someone with your remarkable features." He smiled as he spoke.

still noticing the two figures but not paying to much attention to then Daphne walked down a street ignoring the looks she got from the occasional drunk man walking the street "drunks"

Melrose sighed and said, "Enemies is a pretty strong word...I mean, who said we can't be friends?" Melrose mentally grimaced, thinking of the yelling she would be taking from Skeith later on because of the conversation she was currently having. Then, she giggled and asked, "Remarkable features...?"

Kaer'lic stared at her beautiful face. "You most certainly are a beautiful woman. And I say woman because although you look quite young, I have to assume that you are among either the high hundred or possibly thousands in age. I wouldn't want to feel like a pedophile. And I think enemy is appropriate since Skeith doesn't seem to like me or my friend too much." Kaer'lic remarked.

Melrose blushed slightly, though it was hard to see in the darkness, and said jokingly, "Hey! I'm not that old, I'm only a teenager, 16 to be exact...well, in vampire years that is. I think I'm about 2500 years in human years, but I lost track after 2000," Melrose glanced at the elf, wondering how he would take the news. "By the way, what's your name?" Then, she admitted, "I guess Skeith doesn't, but then again, he holds grudges against nearly everything and everyone that isn't a vampire...and he'd probably have my head if he knew that I was talking to "the enemy." Melrose made air quotes, to let him know it was Skeith's words, not hers.

"I must admit you are very cute. And I don't truly care about the age as long as it is technically "legal". Not that you and I will be getting that intimate," Kaer'lic added quickly, "I'm just sayin'. But about Skeith, isn't that a bad way to view everyone? To him everyone but a vampire is an enemy? That can't be healthy for the mind."

"Pardon my rudeness, I am Kaer'lic." He extended his hand to Melrose, "And you are?"

"Skeith, he......lost everything and everyone he cared about to hunters, and I guess he just never really got over it," Melrose explained quietly, twirling a plucked rose between her fingers. She reached out to shake Kaer'lic's hand and said, "I'm Melrose by the way." Then, to lighten the mood, she asked teasingly, "So you don't care about age, huh? Well then how old are you?"

"You ask a powerful question. I....I never cared for keeping track of my age. It seemed pointless to me, as soon as I was old enough to count." Kaer'lic explained. He looked up into the sky as if seeing something that others could not see. "Do you know what it's like, to not know how you came into existence?" He asked quietly.

"Well, I do know that I was saved from death back when I was human when I was bitten by a vampire...I was still really young, so I don't remember much. The only things that I really do remember all happen I met Skeith and decided to stay with him. I suppose I was happy, enough," Melrose looked deep into Kaer'lic's eyes and asked, "Why did you ask...?"

"I ask you that because, I have no recollection of my birth. There is no record. I know my mother, who was a dark elf, abandoned me when I was just a child. I was taken in by travelers in an underground world. Have you ever heard of a place called the Underdark?" Asked Kaer'lic.

Melrose said, "Oh," and gave Kaer'lic a sympathetic look. Then, she shook her head, and said, "No, what is it?"

"It's another world below this one. It used to be very different. But after the war that caused this upper world's darkness, they are very similar. The underdark is a lightless place, made completely of caverns. That is where my race originated. They no longer exist as far as I know, I have not seen another of my kind since my birth." Kaer'lic turned to stare at Melrose. "Of course, it is of no real importance I suppose. No one is really interested in my kind's stories. It is something I have grown used to by now." He said as he turned away.

Melrose's eyes widened, and her long-dead hear seemed to fill her with a pang of sadness. She bit down slightly on her lower lip, not sure what to say, so instead got up and hugged Kaer'lic from behind. She whispered, "I'll always be here..if you ever, ever, need anyone to talk to or just listen..."

"You are very kind for someone that isn't supposed to be talking to me." Kaer'lic laughed. "But I am glad someone like you exists in a dangerous world such as this one." Kaer'lic stood up and turned to Melrose. "Thank you, it's not often that I am provided with intelligent and deep conversation. It is a blessing." He said to her.

Satoshi abruptly woke up holding one of his guns from his usual nightmares.

"Damn, why do the wars have to come back now?" Satoshi muttered.
