I know how that feels.
My job is just a place I dread.

I have experienced pleasant tingling sensations from time to time that emanate from the top of my head on down to the back of my neck, but I don't believe it is ASMR. The first time I vividly recall this sensation was when I was in a reading class in 5th grade. I received some sort of helpful instruction from a female classmate during a reading exercise. Her name was Joanna and when she stooped to look over my shoulder this very pleasant tingling sensation began. Joanna never touched me, but I felt as though her helping me understand the lesson was born out of a kindness in its purest form. At 10 years old, I had yet receive any such attention from a girl my age. But the feeling wasn't really erotic so much as it just felt really nice to have someone give me that sort of attention. This sensation made me lose my train of thought as I was caught up in its momentary ecstasy. I'm sureI remained calm and didn't exhibit any unusual or inappropriate behavior while Joanna was at my side, but rather I just sat still and listened.

That was 1980 and I cannot recall experiencing another such tingling sensation until 2008. There may have been such feelings, but none which I can recall in such detail. In 2008, I was delivering pizzas for Domino's and I experienced that sensation again while on the phone with a customer. I had delivered to a regular customer and all went smoothly except that while leaving I encountered a neighbor of theirs who was acting like a belligerent fool and made some threat of some sort. The customer I spoke with on the phone was the husband of the woman I delivered to and he wanted details of what happened. After giving him this information, this customer said he was going to find out why these threats were made and insure that this sort of incident would not reoccur.

That's when I felt the pleasant tingling sensation again. I suppose on some subconscious level, his words were reassuring and I felt like the situation was going to be resolved swiftly. And there are times when I recall either of these and that feeling returns, but it is only a hundredth of what it was originally.

Is this anything like what you experience? It sounds like you experience a similar sensation at a higher frequency.

That sounds exactly like ASMR. And I experience it so frequently because I watch trigger videos. Before I knew of the videos I may a very long time before experiencing it again.

Ahhh ASMR! I've heard about it and listened to videos that are supposed to trigger the tingling sensations, but I didn't feel anything :(

Not everyone does and it's also very different from person to person.
What triggers one person may not for others.

I guess what triggers it for you, and how you would describe the sensations? How long do they last? And on the flip side, are there any common ASMR triggers that do not work for you?

Whisper videos don't work for me. Neither do videos of people opening boxes or doing chores.
Fantasy role-plays (like an elf finding you in the woods) or medical exam role-play videos, where the person filming is talking (soft spoken, but not whispering) to the viewers.

For me, it can last quite a long time, fluctuating in strength so long as I am keeping it stimulated. However, you can build a tolerance to it, so sometimes I will take week-long breaks between watching videos to make the asmr strength come back. Like tolerance to alcohol.

Hey, Clair!
I hope you've been having a wonderful weekend!
I haven't gotten around to trying any new ASMR videos for Sarah cuz she had some seizures this past week...and it takes at least a day of recovery after a seizure.
Though she seems fine while laying in bed, shortly after having been gotten up and into her wheelchair, she will get very drowsy and fall asleep...but, soon as I lay her back down, she wakes back up and stays alert!
I suspect she may suffer headaches after her seizures, but she is nonverbal and can't tell me anything about how she is feeling...so I have to watch her face for indications that she may be in pain.
I would love to discover that she is affected by ASMR sounds....to be able to help her experience a pleasant feeling would make me so happy!! ....but, as I understantand it, it will be a hit or miss process....if she's even affected at all!

Sarah does have this thing that happens to her....when she is in a car....
As the motor revs up to shift, she gets all giggly and her body stiffens....and it actually looks like she is having an orgasm!
After the car shifts, she relaxes, then, as the car prepares to shift again, she goes through this "experience" again....but, once the car finishes shifting and a speed is maintained, she relaxes and goes about doing her normal car-riding activities.
(It's kind of embarrassing when we give someone who has never met Sarah a ride and she does that! Lol! Buses really intensify her "experience!")
So....in light of the info I am learning about ASMR, I am wondering if she isn't having ASMR experiences when the RPM's increase in the car.
Her neurologist figured that, because Sarah's brain didn't develop on one side, that, possibly, her brain is " sloshing" inside her skull...causing a pleasurable sensation....
Now I am curious if I might find an ASMR video that may trigger that same experience she gets from car rides.
That would be pretty cool for her!
I'll keep ya posted on any developments!

Wow, thank you for sharing that, both of you ^_^ Does the ASMR also not occur when you're super busy or under stress?

I'd be very interested in anything more, Inzane!
ASMR is not yet fully understood yet, but they are doing research and accepting "test subjects" to see how peoples' brains react when they are being stimulated by ASMR videos. As of now, they're not sure if it's only physical or if it's connected possibly to more of a psychiatric phenomenon.

Here's some articles for further reading:

ASMR and 'head orgasms': what's the science behind it? | Pete Etchells | Science | The Guardian

This article here is how I learned what I had been experiencing for years actually had a name.

This is the woman spoken of in the article, and actually the first of her videos I watched. For me it's very triggering, even after a few years, because it makes me feel loved. Nothing sexual, but that someone is taking time to look out for me. (As I've said, I've experienced it since childhood- I used to feel it when my mother would brush my hair or my father would read to me before bed)

Close up Soft-spoken ASMR video

Mr. Wrong: Watch this video and tell me how you feel. What you described really sounds like ASMR to me.

That sounds like a wonderful feeling, Clair Voyant ^_^ that it makes you feel loved <3

Unfortunately, I could not finish the close up soft-spoken ASMR video you posted. I was not feeling any ASMR sensation (and it was not helped by the closeness of her face and fingers).

Now that I think about it, though, I think I have definitely felt the sensations before. I think I just need to find some way to replicate the situations and sounds I was hearing when I felt them.

@ Sal:
Like I said, it's different from person to person. So you do not like the up close and in your face kind, which is totally understandable. What kind of memories do you have of triggers? I can see if I can find videos that might help.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZB7dPzX6YEw This one cracks me up. A bit more personal, but it's meant to be asmr-triggering and also comical. :D

Hi Angel Spirit Girl! Interesting conversation indeed ^_^

Clair Voyant, I'm wondering if it's possible I am just under too much stress right now? Could that be a reason for not feeling the sensation (I have no idea)

I'm not sure. I use it quite often when I'm stressed, but I don't know if it alters the affects.

Yes, definitely.
I've frequently woken up to find that I hadn't finished watching the videos, that I'd fallen asleep during viewing.
