Yep. the curve of the shade is too subtle in the folds' hem.
and I think the creases at the golden leaf is fine.

At the bodice, there is this particular darker shade between the bewbies.
It kinda make the bodice looked... like having 2 coconut shell on the boobs. You want that effect?
Earlier when I meant showing off the breast doesn't mean... showing there are 2. XD More like a tubetop for the breast, and below the breast, the fabric could all hung to the brooch.

*claps* Close to finish of defining where the shadow should be.

bahaha that boobie shading was pretty much always there - but I softened it up more :P don't want them poking out someone's because they are too perky and booby!

I also added a bit more shading at the bottom...

---------- Post added 01-04-2013 at 03:43 PM ----------

OTL - forgot the fabric between boobies and broach - tried to make it look draped...

I know the bewbie problem is there... but, lol, your dress had more pressing problem. So now, if I focus on other part, it would meant that you have finish the dress parts. I always solve the bigger piece, said so months ago~
You shouldn't have any vertical-ish line in between the bewbs IF you are aftering the tubetop bodice.

Okay, now we can discuss, your material, how gloss and matte it should be.

Okay - so bewbies look okay now D: Don't want madonna boobs D: XD

---------- Post added 01-04-2013 at 03:49 PM ----------

PS - can you explain what matte is?

---------- Post added 01-04-2013 at 03:57 PM ----------

I was thinking satin but it's too shiny - I don't want this dress to be shiny - now I'm thinking chiffon....

... mariaria don't happened to go to my thread! I am disappointed. XD lol.
Gloss means shiny, matte is totally opposite. XD which means, not shiny.

Hey, did joo go over to Hummymy's thread to see my art for Hummymy? Give me some praises~ ^_^
My point is, that was what I was doing with photoshop a day ago when I said I am doing something. XD

The leaf pin is a nice touch. I'm a much bigger fan of it than I was of the button pin.

Speaking of xuv's lovely artsies, Roachi is having Neph and I dress in our island paradise-y best for The Utopia Charity, since we're now helping with it, and I was wondering if, once we'd compiled our avatars, we could commission some charity artsu.

@Maria - As it now stands, I'd totally buy that dress. It's gorgeous. <3

Don't give me names of material, as... well... I don't remember their properties... XD
(trying to conceal that weakness. <.< >.> *innocent*)

As a general rule :
The glossier the material is, the closer the lightest and darkest shade should be.
Because the close distance show the contrast of the 2 extreme, making dark darker and light lighter, hence, the gloss.
If you are happy with your current shade, then you have to touch up all the shade lines, make sure it is expressing the correct shape and then do some dithering.

I am now doing a pixel, FINALLY~
then will be slaving on art to get some CI, then I will do the shading tutorial.

As with Chibi, meh, you can do better than me! <33
*collects praises* XD

I rather like your style, xuv, and I think it'd work well for ze charity. That way we could have ze little chibi circles next to our respective intros and, since you tend to label them at the bottom, we could also use our respective chibis to advertise ze charity in our signatures. o.o

I am happy with a non gloss material. I don't want this one shiny - would remind me too much of the dress of doom lmaoooo

I have some dithering - is it not enough? I didn't want to overload on the dithering because I've done that before XDD

OoO - Xuvvie is getting lots of work done!!! I can't wait to see your pixel!!

... I am getting a comission over at Mariaria's thread. XD lol.

Seriri~ Thanks for the luff for my style. I am very happy. *collects luffpraises*
I would be very happy to help out charity.
Give me the details when you are prepared? maybe I will go over the charity to discuss the details, I am in a dire need of increasing my post count. I want to get to top poster rank!!!

Mariaria, I am nothing compared to Omimi's wispy chibi! I always like that wispy carefree style, like every stroke is free and one try done. Maybe I should learn that style...
As for the dress, I do think it needs some more dithering.
theory is, the more space you have, the more dithering you should do.
and less space, of course less dither...

Your hem art curvy, suggesting a curve surface, not a flat surface... so your bigger folds/curves could use some dithering.

I added some dithering - what do you think?

If I need to add more, I will - just didn't want to add too much XDDD

I am pleased with how this is turning out :D

I am glad that you are pleased.
I prefer things that flow to gravity and all appropriate laws and rules.
I always worried that the laws and rules would force your design intention to suffer.
and I hope you do understand more about the fabric?

Currently, still not enough dither. DX
Could you keep on experimenting and see? Shading is seem to be more harder to be redline.
If you are out of ideas, go to your curtain and grab it to observe how the shadow fades to the light.
Observe, observe, observe.

Is this still not enough?

---------- Post added 01-04-2013 at 06:19 PM ----------

I can't wait until this dress is done :D Then to work on the belt - see if it needs changes - then to something else completely :D

Mariaria, I think that you might not grasp which part to dither.
Dither equivalent to painting when you want to blend the 2 shades/colors, making smoother transition.
You do not need dither IF it is a flat surface, a sharp edge would do.

Pixel Art Dithering Tutorial -- Safiye
Pixel Joint Forum: The Pixel Art Tutorial
Look through whole page.
By the way, I think it is BEST to get your every shades of palette you have with the correct curve and shape BEFORE dithering. The dither should follow the shape of the shade.
In dithering, not just darker shade overflow to lighter shade, lighter shade can overflow to darker shade as well, yours seemed to be confined to one direction. Especially on the rightside back train part, lighter shade can overflow towards darker shade.

Okay - sorry I disappeared - went to hang out with my fiance and have dinner with him.

I took some of the dither I had away...and redid some of it. I added more light to dark dithers throughout....read the tutorials....I really hope that this is better D:

ooo I like the bubble wand idea! Me thinks that turquoise might be too dark for bubbles, but you've got the highlights and shades down on the bubbles, though~
