It is getting more expensive because people in the Exchange sell their stuff under the marketplace value... so those in the marketplace raised their prices to try to get items to be sold for a fairer price in the Exchange.

that makes no sense to me!

It started with the CIs. They were sold for 2500... ten gold for each mennie. Then those in the Exchange started selling theres at 1500 and 2000 gold. No one was buying the ones in the marketplace very much... so those in the marketplace became grumpy.
