take them out of the tank if you want them to live, the other fish will (probably) eat them

I had a pregnant goldfish, I think, but my black-striped tetra killed it. Territorial, angry little bastard.

I have mollies (and a BAMF dragon goby). They humped like bunnies. Eventually the territorial males killed the females. now there's only males left. they all seem to have an understanding now and there is finally peace in the aquarium.

I remember in like 5th grade or something, someone brought in a fish (I think it was a betta, don't remember) as part of their project for the science fair. But then after the fair was over, they never took it back home. XDD
I kept watch over it for a while and then noticed one day that there was another fish in the tank, super tiny thing. I don't know if that was its baby or what.
I ended up taking them home though.

Haha, that's awesome! Not that the kid left them behind, but that you were able to keep them. Haha. I had a betta fish that lived with me for eight years. <3

It's pretty rare for them to live that long, yeah, but if you take real good care of them, eight years is pretty much it. Haha. Most will live maybe 2 to 6 years on average? So sometimes less, sometimes more. He was never given tap water, we changed his water and cleaned the pebbles in his tank every two weeks with distilled spring water and he was given a variety of foods ranging from the cheap stuff to the good stuff. :P So despite the fact I even dropped his cage and he flopped on the floor for a few seconds before I could get him into a cup of water, he still lived that long. @__@ The betta that would not quit. Haha.
He was even an 'on sale WalMart fish' that was in a chinese restaurant sauce container full of medicated water. :P I didn't expect him to live a year after we bought him. They were 2 for 4 bucks then, I got Fire and Ice and my mom got two. Ice lived the longest, 8 years. Fire died after two, so did one of my mom's bettas, and her last betta died after five years. Mine just wanted to go the distance, I guess. x3 Got him when I was eight, died when I was sixteen.
