Personally, I think that Gaia is better only becuase I've been there for so long, but I can't really compare the two since Menewsha is fairly new.
Although, this does seem like just another "rip-off" of those other avatar sites, especially Roliana.
The avatars themselves look exactly like the other sites, excluding Gaia's whose is the most unique compared to this site and the others just by letting them pose differently and having a lot more items that have neat poses.

Which do you like: Gaia, Menewsha, or one of the other avatar communities?

You do realize that Gaia has been around since 2003 right? They had nothing to show for it until late 2007. I do not mean to badmouth gaia. But I did my avatar community 'growing up' on gaia. I cannot stand what Gaia has turned itself into.

I prefer Menewsha because it has standards. It cares for its users instead of caring so much about money. The staff here tries more to help out users.

I like Menewsha than Gaia. Gaia's online community is full of people who just make an account then leave it and never reappear, beggars, and all around annoyances. I know, I tried staying there and posting for about a month. I couldn't do it anymore. I haven't been at Menewsha for long, but from what I've seen there is a smaller number of people and a nicer forum setting. As for the avatars, I think Gaia's are a little too small, but have a decent selection of unique clothing. I like the size of Menewsha's avatars, and there could be a larger amount of clothing. Or even just a shirt and pair of pants for you when you start out. (Lots of naked people! xD) Either way, it's all about your own personal preferences and how you like to spend your time on the internet.

Yea i was on gaia from the beginning as well Bartuc, even was a mod for them for a while there. It really has just become a den of greed. They are basically grabbing their users by the ankles and trying to shake the money out of them.

So I'm going to have to wait two more years for this site to become fun?

Gaia has gone down a horrible path, but it feels like I have to make sure I don't say the wrong things around here or I'll get insta-banned, which really wouldn't affect me.
I'll probably forget I even have this account in a few days, not saying that I want to.
There's just nothing keeping me here.

Haguruma: Those beggars and annoyances make Gaia what it is and pretty much what it has been. There's just more of them.
One of the major problems I have on here is the fact that you have to stroll around naked for AGES until you've gathered enough gold to get the least expensive items available.
Gaia has always been a business, and businesses are there to make money, not always to keep the public happy.

You don't have to fear of getting Banned, Menewsha is open to all users discussing anything about anything just about. We have a tad stricter rules yes but it doesn't limit your freedom of speech. :)

EDIT:

Gold isn't that hard to make. You can make up to 20g per post and 500g a day playing games (or 1000g a day if you have a mule) so it's not that hard to get the cheaper items. If you're a lurker yes, you're going to have a harder time of it until you manage to get yourself to post more. Everyone's friendly here, people love meeting new people.

I've been on Gaia longer and I'm used to it more than this site. But, just like Menewsha, when I was a noob on Gaia, I was confused. I'm pretty sure I'll get used to this site, but it's going to take a while. Nothing's ever going to be better than online games like FFXI, WoW, DoMO though, and that is my opinion.

Kale: I feel like I'm in church, which is making me want to hold myself back because of... everything.
It feels so sterile and pure, and it makes me feel like if I do anything out of this tiny, prerendered box that I will have e-sinned.

Edit: How can you make 500 a day on games?

Yaunie: This site just feels weird, and I guess it is because of me being more used to Gaia than here, but I've almost reached the point where I want someone to take me by the hand and show me how to work this site.

I think you are building this up to way more than it really is. The fact of the matter is Mene has rules similar to almost every forum i have ever been a member of. Gaia just blatantly ignores the general etiquette of most online forum communities.

Dont forget all Gaia or this place is in the end is a forum to discuss things on. I have found the rules here are pretty much par for the course. Never been on a fourm that put up with spam, trolls, etc ... well other than Gaia.

Further more i would like to point out that Gaia started out just like this, is was not originally a biz or a corp. It was a small site where people started out naked and earned gold at a very similar rate.

Regardless This is a very common forum layout, if you plan to surf the internet and talk to people on forums in other sites i would get used to the rules. You wont find sites like gaia where the rules are basically ignored and only there to keep them from being sued when their GD goes to crap.

Oh and as to the take by the hand comment. Well if you check the stickies in the fresh meat section it has lots of useful info to help you out. I think you need to just sit down and relax, not think about gaia when you are here. just think of this as another community forum that just happens to have avatars you dress instead of letting you upload your own.

Once you get used to it you'll find it is much easier to use at times. It is also easier to get gold for items. I started yesterday and now look at me! (I thank Tetris)

Menewsha is much slower than Gaia, but the mods pay much more attention to the forums. On Gaia I rarely leave the Writers forum because of all the trolling, stupidity, and fighting I see it other forums. The guilds I once frequented have practically been abandoned now so I don't go there much either.

I can't really work how you're metaphor for how you're feeling.. I'm not a church goer at all.. rather the opposite and if I did I wouldn't care what I say. :XP

However, life here I think is rarely sterile.. If given the chance the conversations held can be described as PG-13 on topics that could have gone into a R rated discussion. Menewsha looks for conversations and you can chat about anything under the moon with some disclaimers, once you're used to the place you'll see it's not that hard to remain chatting comfortably and still stay below radar. Everyone begins with a few mistakes but it's hardly anything to cringe about.

You have to repeatedly and purposely break the rules to really get banned at all. At least 12 different times (of different offenses) so long as it's not a big thing like trolling/scamming/harassing and such of the like. It's not that stressful so long as after the first time you really sit down to read the rules.. and the first infractions are 0 pointers if one rule slipped by you.. it doesn't send you closer all that much at all as you need 1000 point to wind up banned.

Freedom of speech is far away from the rules.

As for games. You can make up to 50g per game play (If you play tetris the entire time it doesn't take that long as you only need to get up to 27000 to get there which comes quickly) but you can make 500g a day playing the games. There's a counter to the amount you made in the day on the mane Arcade page.

Gary: You're helpful, but don't be snotty just because I'm used to something that has been around the block.
Saying that Menewsha has better rules than Gaia is just reaching at a moot point seeing that Gaia has the same rules, they are just more lenient with them.
Example: I just got notified by a Mod that I can't/shouldn't/whatever post again after another of my own posts on here, which is just ridiculous.

Bane: It does seem easier to get gold, but it still is just odd.
Almost as if that anyone can get any item within just a few days.

The games on here are, I have to admit, many times better than what they offer over at Gaia.
;D

Kane: I haven't gone to church in over thirteen years which makes what I said even more "powerful" I guess.
Lol.
I guess, t's jsut the places that I've been that seem like they want everything to be kept at G and not a level higher.
The games are a lot more fun.
I just couldn't believe that they have Snake and Space Inaders as a way to get gold on here, lol.

Bauta, double posting is against the rules. Our site doesn't move fast enough to need to double post. You can edit your post and people will still see it.

EDIT:

If you head to Menewsha nations you'll see what I mean... there's discussions on Marijuana and a lot of other things. Conversations here are very mature, and perhaps that may be why you see it as sterile... Menewsha does appeal to an older audience because of this and it is a culture shock compared to Gaia.

You said earlier that Gaia is a business, Menewsha is a business as well it's just not as noticeable as Gaia is because we look toward the happiness of users and not strictly what brings more money in. We're small and don't have the coders needed to give more fancy stuff to users, but more things are on the way to keep everyone happy. The staff are spread across the world which also can be hampering compared to Gaia's way of doing things.

Really, there has been many conversations about sex on here. (There was a really interesting one about Fetishes that died away over time) As a staff member at that time I had kept an eye to make certain things didn't go to an R level of things (such as describing the sexual practice in full detail) but it remained highly mature rather than what I imagine it might have turned on other sites.

If you think I am being snotty then you are in for a rude wake up call as you go around through other web sites and join other forums. You will encounter similar attitudes towards you when you start to double post and complain about their site in comparison with X site or X forum. People here are very kind and friendly but other forums will most likely tell you 'stfu and get out troll'

I got a message from a Mod.
It's still just really odd.

Gary: Oh, really?
I've been on Gaia for YEARS.
I know what rolling is, I've done it MANY times.
Not that I'm looking for a reason to stay on this site, but you're not making it to where I want to with your 'litist attitude.

Reading though this thread is giving me a headache o.x;

Getting your panties in a knot isn't going to help you out, and just might cause more problems.
Take a breather for a minute, calm down and just browse through the site, read threads and post. If people just take the time to get use to a new surrounding, you'll be having lots of fun in no time

im on another forum where you get warnings if your post has less than 6 words in it, and yes, i got a warning for that - but it isn't going to make me throw a hissy fit and quit, just makes me more aware of whats wrong and right over there [/semi-offtopic]

So you may think we're strict in comparison to gaia, but there are ones out there with even stricter rules :P

@Angel Spirit Gal:
I'm usually pretty good about learning all the items. The RIGs are really easy because most items are OMGSHINY in my eyes, and I'll spend hours fawning over them.
But loads of the Evolving Items are just really ugly, so I don't spend as much time looking at them. Especially the male-oriented armour or robotic types. Or the traditional asiany ones, as bad as that sounds. xD;; I like modern asian clothing styles, the old stuff like yukatas are really fugly in my eyes. They fall weird on the body. So I don't pay attention to those x__x

On Gaia, I'm under the name Frank!e, but I'm kinda burned out on it at the moment.
I mean, yeah. I like the site a lot. There's stuff to do there, really active, whatnot.
I'm just bored of it. The GD posts nothing interesting anymore (I miss the 06 regs. Hard.), the VGD is hilarious though, when they aren't making 10,000 threads per second about Sonic the Hedgehog or "HURRR WHENS KH3 COMING OUT."

I still am an active member of Gaia.
I have four accounts, one which is my main, then I have my main mule which I use when hiding from my friends because they are too nosy and it's if I want to post in the Life Issues forum, then I have one my friend handed over to me when she quit (I never go on that one) then my ORIGINAL account which had gotten hacked back when I was in high school yet somehow managed to get back onto it. I occasionally go over to that one.
I also use my main mule for roleplay searches.

I call Gaia "that OTHER avatar community" because mostly it makes me angry...

I mean, the Life Issues forum is still ok but the guilds and pretty much abandoned, the forums are full of duplicate thread, text talk, and spam, and the mods pretty much sit on their butts and do NOTHING.

The only safe forum used to be the Writers forum but now that a new rule has been passed that we can't tell people they are in the wrong forum and we have to report them only and the Writers forum is now on the top of the page so we are filled with:
Spam
Trolls
Misplaced threads (from the zOMG! forum even)

And other wonderful stupidity. And what do the mods do when you report a topic? NADA. I reported at least 25 topics as the rules state in two days. Only 2 were moved.

This and the fact that to get every good item in Gaia you either need to get lucky, fork over a lot of free time, or fork over cash really makes me angry.

Menewsha doesn't make you pay for EVERYTHING. You can buy the contribution items for cheap. And it isn't too hard to buy them at the auction.

I still go on Gaia... but that doesn't mean I'm less angry at it.
