Democracy does not exactly work, but neither does aristocracy, tyranny or whichever other form of rulership of or over the masses mankind has attempted through the years.

Probably because while man is a social animal, mankind is not built to live in societies as large as ours. Wolves are social animals as well, yet you don't see wolf-packs of a few million people.

Misjudging will happen whether we have intellectuals or idiots in charge, but at least it'll happen less with intellectuals. And no more goddamn "Science is a conspiracy" nonsense.

I agree that it will happen regardless of if we have intellectuals or idiots in charge; but if it will happen less? Not necessarily. On issues of science, yes, probably less.

On societal and cultural issues, on the other hand...

I know that intellectuals are not necessarily scientists; but "hard" science tends to be one of the few areas where you actually see large majorities of intellectuals in agreement with each other.
