Yeah... I mean, I guess the show has always been a bit cheesy as far as special effects go, but the plot & acting made up for it. I'm scared that having younger, less-experienced actors might be a big mistake. :(

I didn't like it when I first saw it either, but guys.. look at some of the other season promos on youtube. Honestly, they're not much better.
Except season 4 actually, that one was good.
And no, that's not supposed to show stuff from the episodes. It's a kind of introduction they made especially as a promo (hence the not-quite-up-to-standard special effects).

Are you kidding? It's been around since the early 60s. :Þ According to wikipedia there are 756 episodes of Doctor Who, and the 100th episode is called The Stones of Blood and stars Tom Baker. :)

Ach, actually, that was the 100th serial.. it's in season 16. I'm not sure what the 100th episode was, they always list the classic stuff by serials.. The Stones of Blood is four episodes.

The classic series apparently usually had a few small story arcs within each season, consisting of a few episodes - these are serials. It's sort of like a double episode in the new series, except it would often be divided into 4-5 episodes.

THis is off topic but does anyone have any newish anime they'd like to recommend?

I don't think it's considered new but I stumbled across the series Seirei no Moribito, Rhumbullion, after I found the English translation of the novel at my local library. If you haven't seen that I'd highly recommend both the anime series and the novel it is based on. The English title is Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit.
