I would like to keep posting.
Is it all right if I just say random things, since I don't know what you are talking about?

They are usually quite merciful. You didn't do it on purpose.

Really late to convo, I know.
I was off watching the Olympic opening ceremonies.

Favorite book genre is fantasy/sci-fi, most of the time. Once in a while I'll read general fiction, or biographies mostly about queens or other influential women. I've got a section of my book shelves just for Shakespeare, and another section just for Jane Austen, and right next to that I put the few classics that I've liked.
Don't ask me to pick a favorite book of all time, of all genres.
I just can't do it.

Mine is the Barsoom series by Burroughs. It really invented the planetary romance genre. Without it, no star wars, star trek, or any other good sci fi.

Yes, one of my top five favorites is Pride and Prejudice.

I just don't like other peoples' adaptations of her books.

I believe that I like Emma a bit better than Pride and Predjudice.

Her others are also very good.
Sense and Sensibility (I loved the movie).

Ah yes the weepy womany novels. Why is it that girls love them so much, but don't like pulp fiction? (The literature from the early 1900's not the crummy movie.)

Exactly which period of the early 1900s?

And I couldn't really say about that. I'm one of those women, to be honest, but I just couldn't really tell you why I don't like books from those times. I think it's the style of writing that puts me off, personally. Not really to my taste.

I love the wordy style of writing that Austen does so well.

Edith Wharton is another writer who is so very good at that literary style.
The Age of Innocence is a wonderful read.

Like 1912 or so. Buroughs was writing at that time period. The Barsoom series was his first work. It takes place on Mars, which the inhabitants call Barsoom. If you're wondering Buroughs was the one who wrote Tarzan the Ape Man.

Perhaps it isn't the style of writing so much as the subject?

Yyeahh..
That time period.. was just so boring.
To me, at least.
Thus the writing was boring. I can't force myself to sit through reading it, despite my love of reading in general.
I'm definitely more about modern writers than older stuff.
