I generally do. Especially if its a type of music I've listened to literally all my life. O.o
Empress:: I'm just gonna quote-
Quote:
Rockabilly is one of the earliest styles of rock and roll music, dating to the early 1950s.
The term "rockabilly" is a portmanteau of "rock" (from "rock 'n' roll") and "hillbilly", the latter a reference to the country music (often called "hillbilly music" in the 1940s and 1950s) that contributed strongly to the style's development. Other important influences on rockabilly include western swing, boogie woogie, and rhythm and blues. While there are notable exceptions, its origins lie primarily in the Southern United States.
The influence and popularity of the style waned in the 1960s, but during the late 1970s and early 1980s, rockabilly enjoyed a major revival of popularity that has endured to the present, often within a rockabilly subculture.

steampunk goth would be me if I had money to spend on clothing with gears and such lol. or the gathabilly. it looks like a retro type style. I like retro things.
---------- Post added 05-20-2012 at 12:06 AM ----------
've probably listened to lots of rockabilly without realizing what it was. I'm not really good with labels. it just all goes in my music folder if i like it enough.

sorry I vanished but I'll be here for as long as it works! I'm trying to decide if the first item will be over 30 tokens.
I have a fondness of many labels, but I still love Art Nouveau the best and you don't find that anywhere now a days XD

sigh sadly not a fan of art nouveau but that might be because i see it ALL the time. all of my classes walls are littered (it feels like littering to me) with prints all in that style. its like I'm rebelling from it.

one of my professors is different. she loves margaret bourse white and micheal beirut so her room is really different from the other design rooms. actually she has one of the only rooms with a mix of things like Bauhaus, abstract expressionism and art deco styles. all the other professors its art nouveau everywhere.

We can agreed there! I love the hazy dream like world impressionism creates XD Even if my art history teacher said it was just because of there eye problems
I even did a few of Monet's works for my oil painting class in high school >.<

I've heard that too. but there's really nothing there to prove that it was just because of eye problems. I do love the dreamy ness of it but for me, definitely the brushstrokes. I like the feeling of it being made by someone. everything else i see now tends to have that very machine look to it. and sometimes it looks like a person wasn't involved in the design at all. maybe that's just me though. idk. my own personal portfolio is very machine like. I feel that's where design is right now though. >.<

Well the digital age has given us a crazy array of fun and detailed tools. But I do understand what you mean. That's what the whole arts and craft movement is about. The genuine quality and human touch that no metal tool can provide. Makes it more important that someone put care and time in it, and I also feel like modern stuff is so artificial

modern stuff can be. its weird. i have styles I like but i don't really use them myself. for now my portfolio is all about whats going to get me a job. sad, but its where I have to focus for now. eventually I would like to develop my own style but that's later. I'm just not there yet.
I am oddly hungry for something sweet right now.

I think your own style is something that is always dwelling and evolving inside you, you can't particular control it as a whole as much guide it, if that makes sense. It will come forth XD that's all I'm trying to say. It's great to have a job that is actually artisic sometimes I wish I had done graphic desgin but it seems like there's a lot of competitiveness
And I like a little physical work
and shopping with other money XD
mmm I love sweet stuff that's why I want to try miracle berries XD

I kind of got into graphic design on accident. I was a traditional art student first. then i ended up taking 3 more classes that were in 3d modeling to get a second associates degree. Then when I did that my professor loved my work and decided to hire me as an "outreach assistant" but really i ended up doing almost nothing but graphic design. I liked it a lot actually. I like the problem solving side of it. where sometimes you have so much bland text to work with and still have to find a way to make it interesting. So when it came to transferring, I actually chose graphic design as my major instead of studio art. I've been happy with it. now I work as an intern at a small design company and for my school's sports recreation and fitness center as a designer. I love it really. I'm just scared of graduating and being unemployed forever.

both of my jobs are based on being in school. once I graduate, I can't work for the sports center anymore. But my boss from green acres (the small design company) says IF things are good he might be able to hire me on or at least use me as a freelancer. but that's not very secure. and since I am in school full time, it makes looking for anything but freelance work next to impossible. I just don't have the available hours.

I love school and I kinda am eternally a part time student. There's soooo many different certificates and programs to learn I just take a class or two at a time and plan on being there forever XD School is good for my psyche

if school weren't so expensive I would stay. but once my grants end, not even both jobs would cover my tuition >.< for now though, i earn money by being in school. yay for pell grants and cal grants!

what about part time? Would that hurt your qualification for the job then
I honestly didn't take any grants or loans because then I can claim everything back on my taxes and so I just kind of recycle it back into school. But that's why I'm only taking one class a term, it's all I can afford that way, but I would rather get the money back in the end. Rather then paying interest and what not.

grants are more profit to me than a tax write off would ever be. like here's the breakdown. tuition 2.4k, grants in total 5.5k. so I earn roughly 3k each quarter. if I just wrote it off, I wouldn't get to write off the full amount. you only get to write off a percentage. I did take 2 loans though but the loan money is just sitting in a savings account. only earns 1% interest but I'm fine with that. I'm not being penalized any for having either loan out since both are subsidized loans. the government pays my interest on those loans up until 6 months after I graduate.
---------- Post added 05-20-2012 at 01:41 AM ----------
Im a special case though. most people don't meet any of the grant requirements I meet. I'm older so, I don't ever have to mention my parents' incomes on anything. So i end up with a full pell grant, a cal grant for transfer students, and a state university grant. most people don't get those last 2 grants and only get a portion of the pell grant. for most people going to college is just difficult financially.

That's cool with the interest, at lest your not paying that. I don't have my parents but me and my husband togther make a little more then the line of funding. I could have gotten like 500 bucks for my GED but if I took it then I couldn't claim ANY of my school stuff which would have been well over the 500 so I figured I just deal. Also the tax thing is pretty tricky and you don't want to HAVE to figure it out if you don't have to

taxes drive me crazy. not sure what I'm going to have to do next year. last year I didn't earn enough to itemize. and I think this year I'm still going to be under the eligibility for itemizing. but I want to write off my health insurance! at least a percentage of 480 a month should just be an automatic write off! I wish I could just drop health insurance :(

It's kinda scary to do that though. I know how you feel though I've paid for that out of my paycheck for FOUR YEARS and haven't used it but ONCE and then the time I did they didn't pay for CRAP! I was like how about the thousands of dollars I've already given you? But I know the sec I drop it I'll get into some freak accident
I use turbo tax. Or if you do them SUPER EARLY H&R block will do something called a "second look" for free. Those are good to ease my fear of an audit.
