I'm not gonna lie, I would totally wear a pastel cardigan.
New York City is still my favorite, mostly because I live really close to it. :p

I hate you for living close to NYC. I've only ever been there once and I barely remember it because I went there when I was a young child.
Damn you.

You also get bridge lanes closed due to an incompetent governor but we don't talk about that, Eli. :P

Are you in New York?
I'm on the other end of New York from NYC. Midway between Rochester and Buffalo

Yeah! And Ohio is a really important state despite being founded after the US gained independence! You know! Ohio! Astronauts! Rock N Roll Hall of Fame! Stuff! And more stuff!

Though, I feel like North Jersey and South Jersey are completely different states! I'm originally from North Jersey, but am staying in South Jersey and attending college.

Oh yeah! I remember one time you were saying a particular place in England was "far away" when it was what I considered a reasonable drive, so I calculated it and the square footage of Missouri is greater than that of England. Didn't do a calculation for the British Isles, though. I tried to look it up, but that query seems to confuse the internet. Suppose I could just find the square footage for the individual countries and add them up, but... bah. I'm here to avoid math homework. >>

I was curious so I did some numbers:
-the whole of the brittish isles is 121,206 sq. Miles
You could fit that comfortably in the following states:
Alaska- 663,300
Texas- 268,820
California- 163,696
Montana- 147, 047
New Mexico- 121, 599(this one just barely, but still )

I never realized New Mexico was one of our biggest states. Probably has to do with its proximity to California and Texas - makes it look smaller.

But, concerning the Subway over the road, take a look at the building. This building's going to be around 400 years old. You can see that the original footprint was the building next door too, and it was made into 2 seperate businesses in the intervening years. 3 stories, and access to what was very likely to be a stable yard at the back, this was a big premises originally.

See, I love that about the UK, that everything is old and full of history. When I was traveling through, one of my friends joked that in the UK, people think 100 miles is a long way while in America people think 100 years is a long time.

Wow, I never realized that either. Map distortion totally affects how we view different parts of the world. (That always makes me think of the West Wing episode about that.)

Greenland is somewhere else that suffers hugely from map distortion, as it's a massive landmass, the biggest island there is, bigger than Australia, but always tends to look rather small on maps.
Chex, I like that, and it's totally right. xD

I love that about the UK. Traveling from Seattle to Portland is only a half hour less than it takes to get from Oxford to Cornwall if you take the express train. And Portland is considered pretty close by US standards.

It's one of the very obvious UK/US divides, that I think doesn't even occur to a lot of people, unless they've had personal experience of both countries.

I was gonna post some pics from Google maps, but I chickened out. jelly knows me. My desire to be mysterious won out.
I gots a pretty big winder, but I don't look out it often. I always have the curtains closed. Yeah, i'm that kinda person. But the view isn't very exciting. Alls I can see are the houses across the street and junk. And the street itself is pretty busy, with cars goin' by all the time and junk.
Directly across is a kinda terracotta lookin' abode. The people who live there have done so for about a year. BIGGEST MISTAKE OF THEIR LIVES, I say. If I had seen these people looking at the house, I really would have gone across the street and said, "GUUUURRRLLL, you don't wanna live round here! It's fackin' noisy!" <--- Maybe not in those exact words.
Right next to it a little blue house. These people are noisy as hell sometimes. Especially in the summer. And I kinda wanna run their kids over with a lawn mower. True Story.
Next to that is a small music hall that can be rented for parties and shit. It can get pretty noisy too on the weekends. I want to Hadoken it.
And then at the end of the block is a Mexican restaurant. It's called, "Whatchu Taco-ing About, Willis?!" ... Maybe. What're you gonna do if it's not? Psh! --- We never eat there. My family is Hispanic. Why pay for what I can eat at home. I mean really.
