"Kyahh!! Cold cold cold!" Her foot slid on a bit of stray ice and she fell on her rear, but quickly recovered and was back on her feet, ready for the next move. "So that's how you want it to be, huh? Well-" she heard a noise.

Turning around, she faced towards the trees. "Who's there?"

A figure emerged from the foliage, slowly clapping his hands in apparent approval. It was the same man who had come to meet them that morning. He stopped a few yards away, a smile on his face. "Well, well. Look't who came by early. That was quit'a impressive display 'f power. Ev'n if just'a small example of eet." Holding his hat to his head and glancing up at the sky, he continued. "Seems close enough ta the meetin' time. I suppose th' Boss wun't mind too much seein' ya both a lil' early. If he knows ya have been practicin' out here and puttin' on a show for me. Shall we go in?"

The old guy had told Cova to wait while he had to gather some things that might be of importance to her to stay on their team when the door to the outside opened and light flooded the room. Once Cova's eyes adjusted, she saw them. The hair on her back stood straight up and her ears curled backwards. Easy, let's hope they don't recognize you in the dark with these clothes on and in quarter whyn form... She slouched down into her seat, pulling up her hood as best to hide her eyes, but shown just enough to keep an eye on the two.

Hmm... well, I don't actually have a real idea where the plot would go except by a vague outline. And.. eeeh.. the next "thing" that was going to happen on our end of the story would have required uh... 2 people to play out properly.. 8D; I'd feel weird RPing that out by myself. >_> It consisted of my character becoming possessed... :XD

We could continue it that way though. If you waaaaaanna. Ooooooooooooooooor.... hmm.. We couuuld just cut the story off here for a bit, and like... It felt like ages since Byakko first learned of the stones of power. Ages since she had traveled with her cousin. Ages since their contentions with opposition, with enemies, with impossible odds...--

A giant fireball suddenly crashed down over the quarter-whyn. "Okay, maybe that last one is still very prevalent to now. >_>" she thought to herself, as a bellowing roar shook the surrounding canyon. Leaping free from falling rocks, she back-flipped up onto an outcropping and stared upwards. A giant lizard-like creature rose high above her, eyes rolling in its head wild with anger. It looked like a somewhat underdeveloped dragon; rough, rock hard skin covering a huge, seven story body. Tattered spikes on its back appeared to have once been wings, long lost now. Because of that obvious lack of flight, it's girth swelled out the width of the canyon floor. A long, muscular tail swung back and forth, relatively quick and powerful compared to it's slower body. It whipped to and fro as the creature's head turned and twisted on a mid-length neck, gnashing rows of curved teeth protruding out of a small linear skull.

It rolled its head back and forth trying to keep Byakko in its sight. One of its eyes oozed unpleasantly, having been blinded earlier from a blast of sharp ice. That had apparently been the extent of the damage the quarter-whyn had inflicted upon it; all other attacks seemed to ricochet off of the beast, merely enraging it further. Byakko leapt off of the outcropping as a large clawed foot came down, the crushing force inches from her. Flames abounded again as she rolled behind another large rock, immediately bringing up a shield to protect herself. My GOSH this thing is unrelenting. I can think of a certain someone who would have loved this kind of fight. At least I'm used to the heat- oh freakin--" A large geyser of fire shot towards her, enveloping everything in the vicinity along with the kitsune.

She had come down into the canyon because of a likely lead on another stone; there had been a local legend of a creature that guarded a powerful wind relic, and that in ancient times the canyons were filled with powerful gusts from its mighty wings. Lately, anything that contained the words "relic", "legend", or "artifact" alerted Byakko to investigate further. She had warily ventured along the dry river bed for hours, but felt nothing over a breeze. It seemed like it had been just a myth after all, until she noticed a gradual incline in the soil. Walking up along it, she found a strange looking object protruding from the earth. It didn't look like a rock, but stuck out like a sickly tree or plant. Stupidly, she gave it a relatively good kick; but no sooner had she done that, the earth began to shake wildly beneath her. She soon realized that it was one of the wing nubs on the dragon she was fighting now, and her decision to take her frustration out on that "tree" was now causing her a much bigger problem.

No wonder there hadn't been any gusts; its wings being long gone, the dragon seemed to have developed a much more refined way to protect itself. Byakko had no idea whether it was still guarding a stone or not. Wind, fire, earth, she didn't really care what it was, of if there was even a stone at all- she just wanted to get out of this with all her limbs still attached. She was unsure at first if she wanted to try to kill it, the creature being as ancient as it was; but it seemed blinded by rage and anger now, as if it had been for quite a while. Perhaps someone came through before, taking the powerful wind stone from it and mutilating its wings in the fight? Attacked it for no reason and left empty handed?

Byakko leapt up again, out of the flames and in her momentary full whyn form. Her fur bristled as she darted through the fiery blasts, now much quicker than she was with her human-esque body. Every few moments she attempted to fire off a blast of ice, but to no avail. Each attack bounced off or shattered against the rock hard scales. The beast roared again, enraged and intent to kill the intruder.

Cova lept swiftly through the surrounding trees at the beast with full force, diving under him looking for any weak spot that could be pierced. Her eyes moving frantically over the scales, she finally fixed them on a small opening where a scale had broken off. That should do the trick. While the beast was being distracted by Byakko, she made her way to the target while trying to remain unseen by the dragon. Chanting a spell to her sword to poison the tip, she dodged the huge talons as the monster made its way to his prey. "Byakko look out!!"

The roaring of the dragon deafened Byakko's ears, but she faintly heard her name being called somewhere above her. "H-huh?" She turned quickly and skidded through the riverbed dust. It flew up around her, bits of ice twining over the ground beneath her paws. To her amazement she saw Cova leaping down towards the creature's back, sword drawn. Distracted, she thought telepathically, "What in the world are you doing here?? A direct attack won't-- AAH--" Her confusion was interrupted as the dragon slammed down its claw atop of her. Byakko had just barely evaded it, blown back by the immense blast issuing from the impact. Unable to land on her feet she tumbled roughly to a stop.

She struggled to stand as quickly as possible, reverting back to her human form momentarily; but a commotion seemed to be protecting her from any additional blows. Cova had slammed her sword down at the dragon, slicing deeply into its unprotected shoulder. Unsuspecting the surprise attack the beast shrieked with pain and ferociousness. Its head whipped backwards, trying to find the source of it's anguish. Byakko suddenly noticed how unprotected the underside of the dragon's head was. Scales had thinned there to give better movement, apparently. She righted herself quickly and carefully aimed. As the dragon noticed Cova and lunged for his prey, Byakko fired off a sharp, powerful shard of ice.

Thwack. The dragon's jaws suddenly stopped, just a few feet from the panther-whyn. A crunching sound could be heard, as the blast inched though its thick skull. As it penetrated the crown, a shimmering object broke out from beneath the scales and clinked lightly as it fell.

The large monster fell to the ground like an Earthquake shaking the area, just feet away from Cova's body.

"You were going to get us both killed, you need to sharpen your skills. If I hadn't called out-" She staggered a little, trying to catch her breath. "Whatever, let's just get what we came here for."

She used her shapeshifting staff as support while she moved toward the Dragon's chest. Turning it back into the sword she was using in the fight, she sliced the tender skin under the scales to reveal a glowing light just under it's shoulder. "This is it." She carefully pulled out a shining light blue stone. "Wind down, let's go."

Byakko stared at Cova with a mix of annoyance and surprise, but was still thankful for the help. "Yeah, yeah. Whatever." Walking over the battle scarred ground, the kitsune began following the panther whyn out of the canyon. "I still don't know why you came down this way though. Didn't you say you wanted to check on the strange noises in the caves to the -north- of town? That's in the opposite direction from here." Passing around the dead beast Byakko couldn't help but remember seeing something bright fall from it earlier. "Hey, did you notice anything else when you were being attacked by it? You know... besides the rows of deadly teeth and all." She circled around the neck of the dragon, peering at the ground. It was rare for a creature to have multiple stones, but not impossible.

((Should I have her find an earth stone or something? :XD Some other shiny pretty thing? 8D Iunno, I just didn't know what to respond with to theeee... uh.. end of my last post. The shiny thing I mentioned. Since you cut out a stone from it's shoulder and all. 8D~ <3
