I practiced every day since I knew the date of my test.
I looked over the papers for my last test over and over and I worked on everything that they told me I did wrong.
I worked really, really hard and I nailed all that I worked on but apparently, I'm still not good enough to get it.

So I just won't get a license. I'll do well in life just riding my bike or taking the bus or something. Or I'll just be a hermit, I guess.
Better I just stay home and not drive than to drive and kill someone.

It took me three times over the course of five years to get my license and I barely passed. If you live in the city and can get to the places you want to go without a car, it's okay to not be able to drive. It's a bonus life point, but it's not that bad if you don't have a license. But if you live in the country like me, it is imperative that you learn; otherwise, you're isolated unless you have awesome parents or friends.

You can get a cargo bike Ava it's just as good as a car except the booty is in the front instead of the back and it don't need petrol. And you'd never have to work out ever again!

I live out in the country too, Sepia. Buses don't come here so I'm stuck at home unless I get a ride from my parents everywhere. Which sucks and isn't what I want.

I want to feel independent by driving in my own, but it's whatever right now. If I take the test again it will be my fourth try. I don't know anyone who's taken four tries to get their license! And if I want to have any sort of social life I need to have a license to drive myself places. At least until I move.

It doesn't matter how many times you take it (outside of the money it takes to take it again and again), just so long as you continue to try. I have no doubt that you will eventually get the hang of it. Take it from me, a monstrous, foul-mouthed driver from New England. I drive like a bat out of hell. If I can do it, I know you can.

I guess you're right.
But it still makes me feel like I'm incredibly stupid or something since its taking me so many tries to get my license. I've never known anyone who didn't get their license in three tries!

It just makes me feel so stupid. Like, wow, I can't get my license no matter how hard I try. I'm just getting tired of working so hard just to have the thing I'm working for be taken away again. I was very confident that I would pass this time. But apparently I'm still not competent enough to pass.

I really kind of want to give up on the idea of having a license. I'll just become a hermit or something since I can't drive.

@Pisces, I chortled. :)

@Ava, I felt the same way. Heck, I still feel the same way about college. I'm not doing so hot in my classes right now and I just feel like a complete failure. But I'm going to keep at it, and you should too.

I'm sorry, I didn't find it very funny, Ches.

I am starting to think that driving lessons might be the best bet, or taking classes and then having my test done with the instructor. That way I'm not as nervous when I take the test and I don't make as many stupid mistakes.

I was feeling pretty bad earlier, I was super ready to give up,
But then I took a long nap and I woke up feeling better. Thanks for the encouragement, Sepia, I do appreciate it.
I'm going to keep practicing and keep working until I get my license!

Don't let it get you down. I failed my first time on my drivers test.

I did fine on the actual test portion with the quiz and stuff. I even passed the parking.

I learned from my driving instructor at the time that some people take it many times and some don't. Sometimes nerves get to them and other times they don't.

But i'd recommend an instructor. I used one. Actually, two. Both helped me out alot. Might be the best course of action for you.

I am thinking of getting an instructor.
I wish I could get an instructor who'd also do my road test with me, but I don't think that's possible?

I'm scheduling a new road test at a different location of DMV so hopefully that helps. It's not even the fact that I failed that makes me feel so bad, it was the way the woman talked to me that made me feel so horrible. She made me feel like an idiot and she was sarcastic as hell.

I'm feeling generous.

I think I'll give away a post prize, since being generous to other people is what makes the world a better place!

To the 2000th poster (which hopefully isn't myself!) I'm giving a prize. :D

@Ava, that's the spirit! :D Some tips: utilize the vacant part of parking lots. It will really help you, especially for parking. Try to use only your side mirrors. Other nice places to practice are cemeteries and of course those long country roads nobody drives on. Heck, try your own driveway. I don't know if you already know these tips, but those are the ones that helped me get my license that third time.

Instructors can't do the road test with you. It's just you and the DMV person.

And that person at that DMV sounds rude. Smart thinking to try another one.

My mom is puking her guts out, poor thing. The bug hit our family. I have yet to receive it. I hope I don't either. I have more important stuff to be doing than paying homage to the porcelain deity, like working and school stuff. And being healthy.

There are driving schools, in Denver, that let you take the test...then you take the results to the DMV to have your picture and fingerprint taken....then they give you a temporary paper license and mail the card to you in the mail.
I don't know if that service is available where Ava is located, but she should look into it.
It kinda sounds like Ava might suffer from Test Anxiety and the way she was treated should be reported!
A new location my help...try drinking some chamomile tea before the test, to calm your nerves....and, maybe wear lavender to help you stay focused.
Good luck to ya! !

My dad had an instructor who milked good money from him but didn't help him much.
Although he got his license first try the DMV person was like 'I don't know how you passed, but you did' 0_0

wow, in the UK its legally mandatory to have a certain amount of lessons at a registered driving school before they even consider you ready to take the test, and yet I've known people to fail as much as upto eight or nine times. so you shouldn't feel that bad about it. you're more than astute enough to pass the test, you probably just need better, or more, tuition than you're currently getting. a competent driving instructor will be able to tell you when you're ready to take it, and your chances of passing will be greatly improved. just don't loose faith in your own ability to improve, and everything'll be Mr Tinker

Here we take classes first have some driving time with the instructor, get a temporary permit to practice on our own with a licensed driver, then go from there to the main driving test to get your license.

I found an instructor that works with "nervous adult drivers" so hopefully that works out for me. :s

Since this will be my fourth test, if I fail this time then I have to go to driving school before I can take the test again. And driving school is expensive!!

Oh well. I guess whatever it takes to get my license...
