Is it hard to get back into the swing of things after breaks?

I wouldn't say it's hard, but it definitely does take some time getting used too. I'm just so indecisive with what I want to do with my life. I keep spending money on my education and I can't even finish one degree. -.-

Bonjour! ^^
Comment ça va?

&& that's as far as my French goes other than:
Je m'appelle Élisabeth.
^ that was the first phrase I ever learned in French class in high school.

I studied all four years of my high school.. I can read French to an extent, that I won't get lost in France if I ever visit, haha. I just can't speak it and writing it is hard because of certain accents and spellings.

However, my last year there were only five of us and we got lumped along with first years.. So since our teacher was busy teaching them, we were off in a corner teaching ourselves. The only time we got teacher time was when we were reviewing for a test. Needlessly to say, I didn't learn any advanced vocabulary or phrases. I barely passed the class with a C+

It's always easier to understand than it is to phrase your own sentences or write.

In high school we had French one, two, and three, but nothing really for year four. I did some online thing for a bit but it was French five so skipping a year combined with the whole online setup just didn't work with me and I ended up dropping it. I picked it back up in college though and got my degree in French. It's definitely hard trying to teach yourself though. It seems really dumb to lump year fours with first years (I feel like I'm talking about Harry Potter here, LOL). It's a shame that the people who are really interested in the language are forced to compete for teacher time with the ones who are being forced to take it for language requirements. But that's the system for you and schools not knowing or caring about how important languages are. Typical United States education system downfalls.

Yeah, that's something that I've noticed. As long as I understand though, I think I'll be okay..

Our teacher tried to get us our own classroom and time, but the school refused saying it would be a waste of a class for only five students. She tried her best, but in the end I feel like it was a waste of time because we didn't really learn anything.
I tried teaching myself some more after high school, but I didn't have the motivation to do it on my own. I need someone to be there and teach me because I tend to get distracted quite easily, haha.
I want to learn another language, but I feel like maybe I should become more fluent in French before I start another.

That's a lot of the problem that I had with the online French program. I really need a real live teacher to learn things for the most part. Remote learning or teaching myself is harder since it takes a lot more will power and time. My French three class had only a few people in it as well. Thankfully the school didn't pull the stunt your school did though.

I tried learning the Korean alphabet on my own. That didn't really go to well but I find it easier than the Japanese alphabet.
Ugh, none of us were happy with how things were set up for us, but we didn't want to drop out either, haha. Partly because we liked our teacher, she was really funny but very strict as well.
Sometimes... I'll read the labels or directions on products in French first and then look at the English to see if I understood correctly. That's really the only way I've been keeping up with French in any sort of way.

Ah yeah, I'm so glad I didn't have to learn a different alphabet for learning French or German. I feel like Russian would be particularly difficult even though it's Romanesque...

My high school French teacher was really nice. I loved her... We're friends on Facebook now actually, LOL!

I do that too, LOL! It's funny to see if they mess up on the translations or if the Canadian French is different (which it often is).

My ex boyfriend's friend taught himself Russian. It's such an awesome language and it sounds really cool when spoken.

I don't have my teacher on FB, I honestly don't even use it much. Mainly just to check up on family, but that's about it. >.<

Sometimes I don't know if it's right or not based on my level in French, but there are times when I'm like "wait, no, this isn't right "

One of my college friends was trying to but I'm not sure if he ever succeeded or not...

I went back to visit her a few times during breaks and stuff and we ended up finding each other on there. We don't really communicate much but it's cool to know that we support each other.

Sometimes I have to ask my coworkers. Once I got confused because there was a part that was actually in Spanish but it was so similar that I thought I was reading French. >.<

I probably would have quit not even a week into it haha

Well that's nice at least [nice] It's good to keep in contact once in a while.

There are definitely some similarities between the two. I think that's what helped a bit when I took French class haha.
Otherwise, I probably would have failed all first three years xD

I never would have even started in the first place. >.> I miss him. He travels all over the world now so i never get to see him.

Yeah. Last I heard she's retired now. I always planned to go visit her because she wasn't too far away from where my mom was but I never did get around to it...

I only took a half a year of Spanish because my school made us take a half a year of both Spanish and French before deciding which one we wanted to continue with. I have to admit that I mostly chose French based on the teacher. Look at how far that simple choice has brought me!

Oh that's pretty neat, but it sucks that you hardly ever get to see him. :/

My teacher is retired as well. She retired the year we graduated. I'm not entirely sure where she lives now though, I think she went back to Louisiana. I miss my teacher though, she would always poke fun at me saying I was always "too loud" in her class and wished I didn't talk so much. I speak so quietly that I have to yell to speak at normal levels xD I also never spoke unless she called on me to answer questions. xD

The year my class entered high school was the same year the only German teacher retired, so everyone was disappointed.
I took French because I wanted something challenging since I already know Spanish. I didn't regret my decision either, I just wished I had paid more attention in class
My dream of being trilingual failed in all honesty. Haha

I love when teachers have fun personalities like that.

I remember my science teacher telling us how he studied German in high school. I don't think we ever had that option though. German is quite hard to be honest. I'm not sure I would have liked it if I studied it while I was in high school...

Same, haha. She was like that with a lot of her students.

I don't think I would have taken German either way, I probably still would have taken French.

I've heard that pretty much everyone who studies Italian loves it.
