Yeah. I just...I let myself eat carbs today. The chimichanga didn't bother me at all. But the coffee with creamer made me dizzy. And then I had a big bowl of cereal tonight and that made me feel just awful. I tried to drink a soda and it just wasn't gonna happen. I got five sips down and that was it.
Ahhh. *hugs* Hey, at least you have a way to help you keep from getting as carb-dependent as you were before? That's how I've always viewed things like that, anyway. Gave up fried foods for Lent one year and couldn't face a french fry for months.
Yeah. I mean, I lost twelve pounds in two and a half weeks, but clearly this diet is successful in ways I hadn't imagined. I mean, I'm actually WANTING to go back to it because of this misery. Though I'm going to allow for the occasional cheat.
It doesn't feel like food poisoning at all. No intestinal discomfort and no actual nausea. Just feeling immensely overfull and kind of drugged and dizzy. I'm pretty sure it's the diet.
Technically, I have never met a bird that DIDN'T like shiny things. But yes, traditionally magpies are associate with the shinies.
DID YOU KNOW that magpies are one of only like 7 non human animals that can recognize themselves in a mirror? Which means that have a self concept and is a good indicator of high intelligence. SO COOL.
Also, they can have black beaks, apparently:
I recently learned that magpies are in the Corvid family along with crows and ravens, who are incredibly smart birds. They're tool users and have oral traditions that they pass on from generation to generation. Corvids are super rad.
Chexala: Indeed! Ravens are my favorite out of all the corvids. The one at the wildlife center I volunteered at would talk to you and play fetch. He was a total sweety.
Ravens are probably my favorite birds overall. They're my mom's favorites too, and my household has been on something of a Raven kick lately. There are lots of ravens in my area and there are a few who live around our house. My mom puts out food scraps for them sometimes and caws at them when she's working in the garden. We even named our house "Ravenhame" a few years ago.
Ravens are pretty awesome. I have a lot of favorite birds though. I get really protective of the native species in my yard. I totally work really hard to scare off the Eurasian Collared doves, the house sparrows, and the starlings from my yard.
Corvids are okay, but I'm personally more partial to the less flashy birds. Eastern Towhees and Brown Thrashers and Carolina Wrens and all the other grey and brown birds that are boring until you actually look at them. Or listen to them~
My yard babies (i.e. the birds in my yard that are natives and thus my favorites in my yard) are Inca doves, Morning doves, White wing doves, Western Kingbirds, Mockingbirds, Blue Jays, black chinned hummingbirds, Curve billed thrashers, and the greater tailed grackles.
