Oh right, I forgot I have you on Skype. I so totally could have simply checked your timezone from there >.<. Did you have a good sleep? Also being someone who likes to be annoying at times, I totally get how you can get some interest from that. What is it you are doing to bug them? Also, zapping bots? I take it this is a feature to remove bots from Yahoo chat? Although as I have not used Yahoo chat, I am unfamiliar with it.

It was a religious discussion and they were being rather....lets say pissy about this girl (me) coming in in the middle saying, "Why's it such a big deal that they can't have religion in schools. I understand that shoving beliefs down someone's throat is wrong, but showing them what other world religions is like shouldn't be wrong. After all, I'd hate for my kids to grow up thinking all Muslims were terrorists. It's wrong and I believe teaching a class of World religions wouldn't truely be a bad thing. It'd be better than having all these kids running around thinking that Catholics are just a bunch of child molesters, or that Buddhism is about some fat dude whose arms and legs fell off from sitting too long. "

They didn't like that very much.

Ah, I take it then they were quite strongly neo conservative in their views?

They wanted it completely separate. I'm sorry but I'd rather my kid know the views of other religions rather than stick up their noses at people for their beliefs. I mean hell people still think Wiccans are worshipers of Satan. XD

Hmm I think I am misunderstanding the stance they were presenting. Were they wanting to have Christianity taught as a core subject, and other religions treated as an optional side class?

Also that Wiccan stance never ceases to amaze me. My old flat mate was from Georgia, and a wiccan. I remember when the topic came up, she was somewhat cautious in admitting her beliefs. Quite careful to express that she does not worship the devil. I had not really come across the Wicca/devil association, but even now it surprises me no less than it did back then.

They were going with "No religion taught what-so-ever" which I believe could make for more closed mindedness. The fact is schools now barely touch on the subject when in fact they should embrace it and actually start educating students. I don't know how long we spent on studying things like the Byzintine Empire and other old world empires and civilizations when the fact is theres a lot more we could be learning that is more relevant.

Now to someone wanting to study history later on in life it is important, but then again to someone interested in understanding other cultures and their beliefs perhaps offer that world history class. Despite what people say religion can be taught in a non-judgmental manner.

Ah, so they were quite strongly atheists. In which case I certainly did misunderstand the situation. I would be inclined to agree with you, as I also believe it is important to have religions taught in high school. I would personally prefer to see this as part of a sociocultural Anthropology subject. This is certainly something I believe would be greatly beneficial, it also poses what I perceive as an ideal framework for discussions on religion etc. As a key part of it would be providing the students with the theoretical tools they need to approach cultural traits and ideas.

When I was in debate club we had the topic: Teaching Religions in school. My team for the week we had for preperations went around the school video polling students asking them a number of questions about various religions and beliefs. The results alone was scary. Most people believed there was no difference between Catholics and Protestants, as well as Hindu's and Buddhists.

My team was for the teaching of religion in school and we showed this to the history teacher later on who just shook his head at the tape XD

Well in honesty my responses to your questions would not have been very impressive in the slightest. Neither back when I was in high school, or even now. Possibly not as bad as the examples you gave, but severe lack of knowledge would be quite apparent. How did that debate go?

The teachers watching the debate and such sided with the ones saying no. I can't remember their exact words, but it was something along the lines that the other team seemed a bit more organized in their thoughts XD jerks lol

My school was ....special to say the least. I failed most my classes through school because I couldn't get the help I needed from the teachers. But once put in a faster pace program, with ONE teacher I started getting straight A's cause I could get that help especially in a smaller class size.

Aww honey. That's too bad. I know that you were really excited about getting married and all.
Did he say when he would be available, or is that information not available yet?

@Luna-
A shame to hear you didn't win the debate. That probably upsets me more than it should. I was so wanting you to have won T_T. I am also glad you were able to get the help you needed, even if it was more delayed than it should have been.

@Toy-
Hello I am good, how about yourself? Also get on msn nao! Wanna invite you into a group chat >.<

Well I fit 3 year of HS into 1. I did all my work from Freshman & Sophmore year while keeping up with Junior classes. I was only taking 4 over at the main building and about 8 at the other.

Wow, at the risk of sounding like someone in competition with Captain obvious, that is quite an impressive achievement! I really *really* should know this, and I apologize for not knowing. But are you currently studying? If so what?

I'm not studying right now. I am currently just working. I've no idea what I really want to do with my life. I'd love to teach alternative education, take in kids like me who aren't getting the help they need in classes, but I would feel so bad if I couldn't really help them. I'd hoped to graduate early my Sr. Year but because of replacements made to the teaching they took away the one guy that could help us and put in a bitch who could care less about anything but her ''genius'' 3 year old, who told us she didn't want to be there. XD I'm afraid that I'll just fuck up worst than the others who don't give their students chances.

I personally think RE shouldn't be taught in schools, unless the person decies that they want to learn about it.
I absolutely hated going to my religion lessons >.<
All we got taught about was God and Christianity in the media and I think we must have watched about a hundred videos of the same thing. It was so boring, and frankly, I couldn't care less about religion, seriously, what's the point in it? I get that it give some people hope and shit but yaa.
We also only had about one lesson for each of the other religions.

Okay, this almost made me pee my pants.
I agree with you though. I'm not religious in the least, and completely believe in evolution.
And I don't think that religion should be taught in schools at all, unless it's a private school.

That's just it I say Fuck the videos actually teach! don't just sit on your ass and let the kids sleep while some monotoned idiot drones on about the same thing over and over and over again. Make it fun, upbeat, don't stay on one religion for weeks and weeks. Space it out, you know?

I was apalled in school by the fact that they would show so many videos and have us do "fill in the blanks." Most the things I've learned I've learned from my own research.

n_n
-nod nod-
Both my schools tried to ram religion down my throat, so I deliberately played up in lesson, listened to music, passed notes, doodled, broke stuff.
I think at one time I got a paper airoplane fight started :')
My teacher was one of the nicest people ever though, so I do feel bad u_u

@whoreface
I think they shouldn't teach it at all. I am a strong atheist and I really don't see the need for children to learn about religion. In secondary school, I think it should be an option for people to choose if they want to learn about it.

In other news, I just saw to dove pigeons have sex in a tree (':

~Throws pokeball at Bulby~ Its a miss!

I understand what you mean Bulby but for some reason I would prefer that the option atleast be there for students wanting to, and perhaps older students at that. More or less because of maturity levels, then again I knew a lot of mature freshman than seniors in school.
