Nineteen year old Leonardo Beauchene sat on the train with his brown and red patterned travel bag in his lap. Even in first class seating, the experience was loud, stuffy, and bumpy. It was his first time ridding on such a metal beast, but after the ferry from France, the ride felt comfortable. As he closed his eyes, trying to rest with what little time remained, he thought back on how this happened in the first place.

Leo was the bastard child of one of his father's foreign mistresses, but due to his mother's affluent family and the money his father left them, he grew up well. All of that changed when his mother came down with a mysterious illness. He never imagined this end, or any world outside of his happy bubble. A little more than a week ago, his mother died, and as the oldest still living at home, Leo became dead weight. It didn't take much thought. The family sent him to live with his British father who immediately enrolled him in a boarding school. Whether he wanted it or not, Leo would follow in his father's footsteps and become a doctor. A small sniffle made out out before he shoved the feeling back down again.

The rocking of the train increased as it slowed. It finally stopped at the station for Winchester where Leo got off. At the gates, his father met him with a curt nod. They did not speak. Out of the corner of his eye, Leo inspected the man he spoke with twice over the last couple weeks and never men. His father stood taller than most and wore a stern look whereas short Leo inherited the blonde floppy hair of his mother. They couldn't have looked more different, and from the way his father walked next to him, he guessed the man would treat him as such.

His father was one of the few with a car in those times which they took through the foreign streets filled with playing kids. They finally came to the gates of Alamein School where Leo would live from now on. His father led the way to the main office to check him in. Words exchanged, questions asked, but even when they spoke, it wasn't like they did so directly and never when alone. Soon, they dropped the two bags that remained from is life into a room with a bunk bed, matching wardrobes and two desks. The bathroom was a simple affair shared by all the resident students with a few other outdoor toilets scattered around. Leo fell onto his bed with a faint goodbye to his father and tried to get used to the idea of his changing life.

Filipp Dyantlov had been here a few days already. He'd spent the past few days trying to stay as busy as possible, by helping prepare the menu, as well as learning and perfecting the English language. Though, after being in the country for little over a year now, he felt he had a fairly decent grasp on it. At least, well enough that he'd be able to communicate with his colleagues as well as the students.

Currently, Filipp, or Phil, as he wanted to be called, was currently working on the day's dinner. His natural, shaggy black hair was pulled back with a hair net, and the uniform apron barely came to his knees, due to his height. It was late enough in the day where he could get started on dinner. There was a small lunch available for those who were hungry after their arrival. While he wasn't overly excited about the food he was cooking, the students would at least eat something that wasn't greasy or processed. It was better than nothing, he supposed.

When he heard news of students now arriving, he poked his head out of the kitchen with an excited grin. They weren't terribly young, some of them were only a few years younger than his twenty-six years. In spite of the minor age difference, Phil wondered if he would be able to befriend any of them. After looking around for a moment, Phil ducked back into the kitchen to resume cooking.

The students would be down to eat later, and he'd be able to meet some of them then. In the meantime, he had work to do.

((sorry this took so long. I'm still sick, but at least I'm getting energy back!))

After ten minutes, Leo finally moved from his bed. Grabbing his nearest piece of luggage, he set about the task of unpacking and setting up the room. He didn't have much so he doubted it would take long. Everything he once had, boiled down to a couple bags filled mostly with clothes. An extra pair of shoes, his photo albums, and a shoe box full of personal things easy to carry--his belongings didn't amount to much.

The entire time he unpacked, he expected some other boy to walk in. The room sported two beds, but so far, he saw no sign of another occupant. Would they perhaps arrive late? Or was he stuck alone. Leo couldn't decide if he preferred that option or not. It would be lonely, but in many ways, he craved this aloneness. Though he learned English growing up, he felt no matter what, he would stick out as a foreigner. He sounded too French, somehow looked French. Funny that he never thought of himself as half-English before, but now that truth dawned on him.

Flopping down on his bed once more, he opened his shoe box and picked through the objects in it until time for dinner. The meal times were set and not an overly long window so the second it turned seven, he pushed his door open and trudged down with the other students all wandering in the general direction of the mess hall.

The hall itself could house a large amount of boys and long tables went length wise across the wall. A line formed toward the front and Leo filled in with the other students, a little curious and wary of this system. He did his primary school back home, but nothing of this sort. After the required years, he chose to study ancient writings with a local scholar rather than something practical and more fiscal. As he finally came to the front of the line, he realized the meal consisted of three choices all of which looked utterly foreign and unpleasant to him. Leo ordered the first without really expecting much. He took the meal back to a table and sat alone, picking at the stew-ish thing that just tasted like hot to him.
