well cucumbers are larger and not pickled
the size of the cucumber is smaller for pickles
it think it has to do with smaller seeds inside

all pickles start as cucumbers
just the gherkins are smaller in size
dill pickles are larger
and cucumbers are eaten raw
and unpickled, usually in salads
