Ok, I have tried many ways of coloring and I don't really like how my shades are on photoshop.. I've had people mistake it for me using the gradient tool. I didn't. Any tips to make them seem a little better...?

Try to use a variety of different colours in your art -- Experiment and be creative!
For evample: your first picture, the "soriku-2" one, you've coloured in sections all one colour. How about giving her hair some different tones? like a darker black and a medium grey? That would look nice, maybe with some white highlights too?
:)
But your drawings are good, i like them! x3

EDIT : Here, I just did a quick edit of one of your drawings (hope you don't mind ^^; )

See where I've gone around your lines with some darker colours and highlighted some parts?
That's what I was on about above.
Of course, it doesn't look the best because Im not an expert, but it'll get you in the right direction ;)

Yupyup, practise makes perfect ^__^
The more you experiment with ideas, tones, shades, brushes and layers, the better your art will become :)

I think you should use more different shades of one color. You currently seem to use just a base color and one darker shade of it. But it would look better if you'd color some parts of the shading even darker, and also some parts a bit lighter than the base color.

it looks as if you are using the dodge and burn tools witch make them look bland

try using different colors other then just making it darker and lighter with the dodge and burn tools which is what Dawn Crest suggested

thumbs up Dawn Crest
