They take a percentage out of your sales on things in the trades? Or are you talking about the sell back shop in the shops? I didn't notice any percentage being taken from the items I sold in the marketplace using my trades.

I think the surreal idea behind the 'tax' on Gaia was to theoretically lower the inflation, which failed for the obvious reason that people wanting to make x amount of gold were just going to bump their prices, thus driving up the cost. It was really a pretty stupid idea on someone's part. Well intentioned, no doubt. But stupid.

Thank Goodness we don't do that here. Not that I'm in the exchange much, but still.

Taking a percentage is meant to be what is called a "gold sink". Meaning the gold gets out of the economy all-together and isn't 'recycled' into items (which can be sold, creating money...)

The idea of gold sinks is that you toss money into them and it doesn't come back out. That's why Gaia makes you pay for each hair style/color change. It's a gold sink. The marketplace tax is a gold sink. 1/2 price sell-back is a gold sink.

On Menewsha - these are the gold sinks I see:
- the games of chance (since significant chances are into you losing it rather than making more)
- the sell-back store (you only get half of your purchase price back, rather than all of it.)

Gold sinks = good.

But the tax on Gaia = undesireable because it's not as good of a gold sink as the hair salon, sell-back option, or games of chance. The tax encourages sellers to mark-up their prices to make up for the tax. This actually increases inflation, rather than prevents it. (Which is the entire point of gold sinks...)

Menewsha could do - in the future - with another gold sink or two. ;3

If Menewsha gets a marketplace, I hope that they just create renewable vending licenses as the gold sink.

Same here. Like, after four months maybe you have to pay for it again, or you can't use the marketplace. xD The tax idea on Gaia it will probably work after months and months, now instantly.

The tax is still good because it gets gold out of the system.
I just thing that it complicates things a lot more than what is necessary.

Yah. xD i already slow things for low prices, but with the tax i loose a lot of gold, so i'm not sure if i should raise my prices up more, you know? ^__^;
