It was the cook. Because they said they went grocery shopping, but it was a Sunday and the store wouldn't be open :sweat:

RIDDLE #10

A Boston socialite comes home at noon and finds that her husband has been murdered. The police are summoned. The wife of a wealthy businessman, the detective asks her and the staff about their whereabouts that morning.

The wife says she was at church and has witnesses to verify it. The cook said he had gone grocery shopping and then set about preparing that nights dinner. The maid said she had collected the mail and then started cleaning the downstairs guest rooms. The gardener said he had spent all morning tending the rose garden. The chauffer had washed and shined the limo. And the butler said he had tidied an upstairs closet and then went down to the basement to tend to the wine celler.

After hearing these stories, the detective instantly arrested a suspect. Who was it and how did the detective know?

CLUE: The police checked out the wife's story and verified that she was at church.

NO MAIL ON SUNDAYS!

I'm guessing on the Sunday aspect too, but it doesn't state anywhere that it was Sunday, and some people go to church every day ._.

Ithir got it! It was a sunday when the wife went to church, and there is no mail on Sundays in America.
