Ooh, the equinox is the Baggins' birthday? Good to know! I'll have to make something extra special that day too. Or at least indulge in a little second breakfast.

Haha. Yup! The 22nd of September! Three years in a row I've had a hobbit inspired feast for it. This year will be no different! Usually I have fresh made bread, cheeses, apples, hard cider or a good lager.

I just made a bread that failed! The zucchini bread recipe that I use said you can substitute apple for the veggie. So I did! And yah. No. No no no. *shakes head* It lied. That bread fell FLAT as anything. Drat. I hate wasting, but it's scary looking. Tomorrow I'm going to make a good one! I promise!

Mm, that sounds so good. The 22nd is Sunday, yeah? I think I'll be spending the day at Buffalo Wild Wings with the boyfriend watching football, so I might have to put the celebrations off until Monday. We'll just call it second birthday.

Sounds like a great idea. :D Sunday is also my sister's birthday. But she's usually busy doing something, and if not I'll postpone my hobbit fun too.

I haven't tried my hand at too much bread, so far I've only made: white bread, wheat bread, ham and cheese bread, garlic bread (which is just slapping butter with garlic powder in it on bread slices than baking in the oven, so more like garlic toast), strawberry bread, banana bread, rolls, jalapeno buiscuits, homemade pizza crust, banana muffins, and I don't know if I'm forgetting anything....lol And most of those are made entirely or partially in a bread maker ^-^

I have no pictures atm (cause their all past projects that got eaten, before we could even think of taking pictures), and most of the recipes are from the bread machine cookbook, other cookbooks, blogs/website, etc

It all tastes really good though.

Well, looks like my boyfriend might have to work this weekend. Bad news is no boyfriend, good news is I can celebrate Baggins Birthday with some bread. Just got to make sure I have everything for that recipe, and I'm sure I don't.

Gwen is such a tease! That all sounds amazing!

Pumpernickel is good, hummy. Oh man. I haven't had that kind of bread in a while.

Boo on the no boyfriend, but hooray! Cherry, we'll be Baggins Birthday twins! I'll be making the challah here, and maybe an apple desert bread with crumbly strudel on top!

The idea mentioned you before about cheese and apples sounds good, so I think I'm just going to steal that from you, baking two things would be too much for me.

I've got a question about the challah! I noticed it calls for a lot of honey. Is it a particularly sweet bread, or does it have the same amount of sweetness as "normal" breads? I know standard bread is sweetened plenty, but I don't want to get my mouth all prepared for a savory bread if this is going to end up very sweet.

Fingers crossed, though, that the boyf will have at least one day off this weekend so we can hang. He works third shift and has been getting some much-needed overtime lately, so he hasn't been getting home until 2-4 in the morning. On regular nights without overtime he gets home around midnight. So the weekends are the only times I get to see him!

It's a sweeter bread, but not as sweet as like a zucchini bread would be. It's fantastic with pretty much anything though, even as a sweeter bread. Soup, butter, jam, french toast style, with cheese...

Ouch! Overnights? I did that for a few months. Threw me off so bad! I feel for him.

I will post pictures tonight!!!

I didn't do the challah. My yeast failed on me (I knew I should have bought new yeast). BUT I did make cranberry lemon scones, and there was pumpernickel bread and honey. So.... Not all was lost.

They're not officially overnight shifts, they're 3rd shifts, But he's getting overtime right now because it's "busy season" and they're understaffed. Good news is that he didn't get called in yesterday, so we got to spend the day together. He did get called in today, but since it is 3rd shift, he didn't have to start until 4 so we got to watch the game anyway. So now I'm home and I could totally make bread, but mom didn't go grocery shopping like she said she was going to, so she didn't pick up yeast for me. My feast shall have to wait until tomorrow anyway! After stuffing my face with appetizers at Buffalo Wild Wings while watching the game earlier, that's probably for the best. I don't think I'm going to be hungry for the rest of the day.

Can't wait to see your pics!

send some to me At least you'll have leftovers for a few days! I'm always disappointed if I make something good and it doesn't last. I've got to enjoy it multiple times!

I am going to make your Cornmeal Yeast Roll recipe, Jelly. It looks just so yummy.
I normally use my bread machine, and let it do all the work. However I think I can pull the bread ring thing off.

Ooh, hope they behave for you! I've got some more cornmeal now I bought a bag of fine and a bag of coarse. A few days later I got a message from the Ebay seller saying they'd realised their supplier had sent them a case of out-of-date coarse cornmeal (March 2013) so they're sending me another pack. I doubt there's going to be anything wrong with the expired bag, so twice as much cornmeal for me!!

That's excellent jelly. And good of them to be honest about it. You should try and make arepas some time with the cornmeal.
I had them once at a fair. It's a cornmeal griddle cake with mozzarella in the middle...or just about anything you want in the middle. It's got a nice sweet and savory taste.

I might make some again soon and add some veggies to the center too.

At the fair, they just had a huge long griddle with them. It smelled so good. And there was a sweet woman cooking them, motioning us over. You had me at corn and cheese.

Ooh I love me some bread (unless it those store-bought bread-substitute loafs). My sister tried copying Olive Garden's breadsticks and while they didn't taste like Olive Garden's, they were still so yummy. Homemade bread is the best thing on earth to me.
