ok Cora,
its unbalanced. you need some teal and black at the bottom of your avatar. I suggest the Raven ankle wings or the ankle wings from the imperial regalia for the black and maybe there is a bustle bow thats the right teal?
the light spell also seems a bit out of place, its too back it wasnt inside the sphere eh? wishes aside, i would eiuther take it off or try to balance out the blue light from it with something blue and glowy like the spell on the floor and/or the orb of air from that Ei that had the elements floating around...
that all being said. i Love the hair layering behind the tail, it looks like someone is drowning behind you and that is amazing! and Atlantis with the black and white is also a classic colour combination. you have to love that. and i love that you look like you are underwater with the bubbles and the background items. very nicely done.

its ok know what im rating sometimes, else i wont even know what im rating sometimes. as it can take me a day to respond to a post.
as a themed avatar i think your theme comes across brilliantly. the hair and the kimono along with the eye makeup really makes you look the part. Although i think the problem your having with the face is because of the hair selection. There is a scarier hair choice you could make where the hair is straight and over the one eye, only showing one eye and its long and creepy. that one might give you the edge your looking for.
as an avatar though, i really think the neck thing you have on takes away from the overall look of the avatar. I would take that off and add the red ribbon from the winter CI from a few years back. that would be perfect. I might actually suggest changing the skull in the hand for the skull belt. it would be more subtle and suggestive while being less poetic. I would also add the hanging crystals from the crystalz CI if you got it to add some creepy ambiance to the background.
overall: 7/10 creative theme and it came across nicely. it just needs a few touches here and there thats all.

its perfect. i love the layering and variation on the browns. they add a stark contrast to the background which is very reminiscent of steampunk. its well balanced and well layered and not crowded or overwhelming.
its simple elegeance gets across exactly what your trying to get across simply and effectively. well done.
