(This is my super amazing private RP with my warrior princess (AKA Blossom:D)

Little kids loved to play pretend. Little kids especially loved to pretend they were animals. Parents would coo and say 'how adorable' when their five year old would suddenly go down on all fours and roar like a lion, running around the living room, scaring the wits out of the poor cat who had oh so innocently been sleeping on the couch, not bothering anyone.

Eleven year old Nicholas Finbar, or 'Nick' as he often went by, didn't think it was cute. He'd never gotten down on all fours and pretended to be an animal when he was younger. After all, how can you pretend to be something you already are? You see, ever since Nick had been able to walk, he'd had the ability to shape-shift into full grown animals. It was a gift he'd inherited from his grandmother, a gift that had completely skipped over his father, and one he used constantly. Nick was always ditching school to run around in the streets as a dog or to soar above the clouds as a bird, laughing to himself at the people below him who would never have the same privileges as him...

Nick hadn't gone to school at all that day and hadn't gone home either. He'd spent all day as a cat, walking the streets, not really doing much of anything. He'd actually gotten a bit bored of just wandering around as a cat and had even considered going home as he walked down the vaccant street. His parents were going to give him hell when he got home but he didn't care. After all, they weren't special like he was. They were just ordinary humans. Unimportant. Insignificant.

Nick didn't know it as he turned the corner, heading towards home, but that night was about to get much more interesting and he would meet an ordinary human who maybe wasn't as unimportant or insignificant as the rest.

Gilbert Robinson sat on the living room floor playing with his favorite white stuffed rabbit. He had gotten it last christmas from the old lady across the street. She said it had belonged to her sun when he was young and figured the young bunny-enthusiast Gilbert would make good use of it.
The sound of metal clinking against medal made the boy look toward the door. His dad was finally home from a long day at work.
"Hi dad." Gilbert smiled at his father who was standing in the doorway taking off his shoes.
"Hey bud." Gilbert's father patted down his sons curly black locks as he made his way to the kitchen to greet his wife.
Vanessa Robinson was mildly surprised when a pair of big hands snaked around her waste accompanied by a peck on her smooth shoulder. She almost dropped the spoon she was using to stir the noodles for the Fettucine Alfredo they were having for dinner tonight.
"Smells good." Her husband Alexander breathed huskily against her neck, "Need any help?"
"No thanks." She turned slightly in his arms to smile at him while she still stirred the noodles, "Dinner's almost ready. Why don't you and Gilbert go get washed up?"
The woman knew that her husband likely still had grease all over his hands from his work as a mechanic at the oil refinery.
He pouted and gave his wife one last kiss on her neck before pulling himself away from his happy position, swiping his hands against her stunningly white apron and leaving large, black grease stains on them.
Alex decided it was better not to mention it. Being the wise man he was he tip-toed out of the kitchen and off to the bathroom motioning to a giggling Gilbert to follow.
A few minutes later they were all sitting at the table. Making the small talk that families sometimes made when they ate. As he poked the food with his fork, Gilbert saw his father motioning to his mother from the corner of his eye. His mother nodded and the large man cleared his throat.
"Gilbert. Your mother and I have something we would like to tell you."
Alex Robinson grabbed his wife's hand as she exclaimed the news happily, "You're going to be a big brother!"
Gilbert almost choked on the noodles he had just attempted to swallow. He coughed for a moment until a scratchy "What?" managed to escape his mouth.
"Gil. Your mother is pregnant. Isn't that wonderful. We're going to have a baby!" For a moment Gil's father almost seemed more excited that his mom was prego than his mom was.
"That's great." Gilbert smiled. Steven Johnson from his third grade class' mom had just had a baby a few weeks ago. Steven had said that babies laugh when you make faces at them and that they're really squishy, sort of like stuffed animals. Gilbert liked stuffed animals.
Suddenly, curiosity struck the raven haired boy. "Is it a boy or a girl?"
"Well, we're not sure yet sweety," His mother explained. "but me and your father have been thinking."
"We think that now that you're going to have someone to look after, you may need to do a little growing up."
"What do you mean?" Gilbert grew quiet.
"Well, your mother and I just mean that you act a little young for your age, don't you think? You can barely get yourself dressed in the morning without help. Plus, you've been carrying around that dumb stuffed bunny" he motioned to the bunny in his son's hand, "ever since you got it for Christmas, and that was months ago."
Gilbert tightened his hold on his prized bunny treasure. "Peter is not dumb!"
"Oh please, Gil. He has fluff in his head." His mother said.
Gilbert's green eyes filled with tears.
He was hurt. They told him to grow up and that his bunny was dumb. They had crossed the line.
"Yeah? Well he's a hell of a lot smarter than you!"
He had said it without thinking, and regreted it immediately after.
A chorus of "Where did you hear that word?!" and "Go to your room!" followed him as he stomped off with Peter the rabbit.
He slammed the door to his room and locked it. It was a brand new lock that his parents had given him because now that he was almost nine they thought he was responsible enough for it.
Gilbert supposed that the lock would be gone by tomorrow and he would have his old, lockless door knob back. He wasn't sure if it was worth it, but yelling at his mom felt awesome.
He decided that they were right. He needed to grow up. Take charge of his life and he was about to.
He opened his closet and grabbed the box of oatmeal cookies and all the candy he had. He dug around to find a stick of beef jerky he had saved from the last time his dad and him had gone camping, and he shoved everything into a back pack he had lying around.
He opened his door slightly and stuck his head out to see his mother and father conversing as they cleared the table.
Perfect.
He grabbed Peter and set him nicely at the top of his bag along with a small blanket he found under his bed.
"Come on Peter. They wanted us to grow up. Let's show them just how 'grown-up' we are."
With that, he fascened the top of the back pack and crawled out his window into the still night.
__________________________________________________ ___
Gilbert's legs hurt. It felt like he had been walking for hours. He had followed the street out of the resedential area and was now dragging his feet along the sidewalk in front of some old stores. He thought maybe he had seen these buildings before, went shopping in them with his mom, but he wasn't sure. everything looked different at night.
He was walking past the back alley of one of the shops when he saw an old, beat-up chair there.
He decided to take a break from walking and sit.
The chair may have been broken, but it still held his short and slim eight year old body.
He leaned his head back and sighed in relief as he wiggled around his feet to cure some of the cramps in his ankles.
However, his relief didn't last for long before he heard a growling noise and saw some trash bags moving a small ways away from him.
Gilbert stiffened and sat upright immediately. He [B]hated[B] dogs. They scared him out of his wits. He stood up and slowly started backing away from the animal.
The dog circled him a few times before jumping up and biting his old back pack, tearing a hole into the bottom so everything came out.
The dog sniffed the contents of the bag before he began tearing apart poor Peter limb from limb.
Tears began to spill from Gilbert's eyes as he stood there, unable to move.

(You actually bought something in red AND a whip? I didn't think you had it in you, Blossom XD)

Nick froze when he heard a dog's growl. He looked towards the alley he had just been passing, every hair on his brown tabby coat standing on end. A wave of relief washed over him as he realized the dog hadn't even noticed him and had been growling at something else. But concern soon hit him again as he realized just what exactly the dog at been growling at for there, frozen with fear, was a young boy. He didn't look that much younger than Nick.

Now, Nick had never exactly been the hero type but he'd never exactly been the hearltess type either. That dog was going to kill that boy unless someone did something and seeing as there was no one else around, that 'someone' would have to be Nick. Also, it would give him a good chane to try out that new trick his grandmother had taught him.

Before he knew it, he was growing bigger, his fur was growing shorter and changing to a much lighter tan. In the space of a few seconds, Nick had gone from an ordinary tabby cat to a proud bullmastiff. For years the boy had always had to change back into a human if he'd wanted to change into another type of animal but now he could quickly and easilly go from one animal to another, a trick that was about to come in very handy because before he even had time to come up with a good strategy as to how to deal with the other dog, it lunged at the boy. Without thinking, Nick let out a loud bark as he ran into the alley, full speed ahead towards the attacker.

The loud bark startled the other dog and it halted as it turned to look at what had made the sound. While shock was a fairly hard thing for an animal to show through facial features alone, Nick could've sworn he saw a look of fear and suprise on the smaller dog's face as this large beast of an animal charged towards it.

The smaller dog just stood there, not quite sure what to do and when it had finally decided to run it was too late and Nick was upon him. The boy loved animals and would never intentionally hurt one so instead of taking a bite out of the canine, he simply knocked him over. Being nearly twice the other dog's side made it easy to bowl himover without Nick hurting himself and doing such a thing would most likely simply wind the smaller dog so it was a win-win for everyone.

It only took a moment for the street dog to recover being run into by the giant and the moment it did, it ran out of that alley like a bat out of hell with its tail between its legs. As Nick watched the dog run, he let out a little 'huff' which sounded like something between a bark and a sigh. He then turned his attention to the boy. He looked frightened but other than that was unharmed.

(xD I'm just THAT cool. I forgot to mention yesterday, but I LOVE the name of the thread. So creative. xD)

Gilbert was seriously freaking out right now. Was there just something about him that attracted viscous dogs. Here they
were, fighting over him, and this one was even bigger! The strange dog was staring at Gilbert, but so far hadn't made a move. Gilbert backed up towards the wall, falling against it gently.
He had half a mind to curl up into the fetal position and cry.
He slid down the wall until he hit the ground and pulled his knees to himself.
This was going to be a long night.

(The coolest! And I know. It's awesome, right? XD)

Nick watched the boy as he curled up into a ball. Wow. He really was scared. He tilted his head to the side slightly in that incredibly cute dog fashion as he continued to examine the younger child. Was he lost? After all, why else would a boy so young be out this late at night unless he didn't know how to get home?

Nick didn't know why he did what he did next but he was soon transforming back into his original form and within an instant he was no longer an oversized dog but was, instead, a scrawny eleven year old boy with auburn coloured hair. He looked down at the smaller child with his dark brown eyes that, unlike the rest of him, didn't seem quite human. Sure, they looked normal but there was just something behind those eyes, somethig bestial.

Staying in a transformation for too long always affected Nick and it became evident as he spoke for his voice came out raspy and dry as he asked, "Are you okay?"

(Totally awesome. It's the best name ever! xD)

Gilbert stiffened and lifted his head slowly to look up at whoever had spoken to him.
Upon seeing another boy, young Gil stood up straight and quickly swiped at his eyes with the back of his hand to rid himself of any evidence of tears.
"I'm fine." Not wanting to seem like a scaredy cat in front of another boy, he tried to hide his emotions with a mask of stoicism. Only to destroy all effort when asking in a shaky voice, "Where'd that dog go?"

"The...dog?" That's right, he'd been so busy crying that he hadn't noticed Nick change. That was a relief. His secret was still a secret. "Uh, don't worry, kid. The dog's gone." Nick was so used to other people calling him 'kid' that it was finally nice to meet someone a good few younger than him to call 'kid'. "What are you doing out here? Shouldn't you be home with your parents or something? It's dangerous for a kid like you to be out at night by himself."

Gilbert glanced around the alley. The boy was right. The dog was nowhere to be found. He looked the other boy up and down with narrowed green eyes. That dog was nearly the boy's size. There's no way he could have scared it off it would have eaten him.
Gilbert scoffed and walked past the other boy, heading towards his pile of posessions and his ripped back pack.
"Don't call me kid. I'm nearly grown. I can handle myself. I don't need my parents to hold my hand through everything I do. Besides, it's not like I'm lost or anything. I simply ran away."
Gilbert paused in his gathering of his items.
Poor Peter lie in a sad heap of stuffing and body parts on the ground.
That dog had completely devoured him.
Gilbert gathered the bunny up gently and slowly stood from his crouching position on the ground.
Hot tears stung his eyes. Peter was completely destroyed. There was no way he could be fixed now.
Gilbert was now very aware of the other boy standing a distance behind him. He resolved not to turn back around until he could manage to stop crying, and crouched back down to continue gathering his things.

Nick scoffed at the boy saying he was 'nearly grown'. Cute. He wanted to be a grown up. Nick wactched the boy as he slowly gathered his things. He'd acted strange when he'd picked up the rabbit and Nick could've sworn he heard a quiet sniff as the other continued to gather his things.

"Hey, um, my name's Nick. You need help?" He knew the boy was crying but crying kids were not something the eleven year old was good with so the quicker the boy gathered his things and left, the better.

Gilbert wiped the tears from his cheeks and picked up his back pack.
"I'm Gilbert. My friends call me Gil."
The hole in the bottom was giant. There was no way all his stuff would fit back in there. He'd have to carry it with him.
He put all of Peter's parts into the, thankfully unharmed, small front zipper pocket of his bag.
He picked up a few hand fulls of candy and shoved them in there as well.
His blanket had landed in a puddle and was completely soaked through with dirty water. He almost wondered if it was even work bringing it with him still.
He saw the beef jerky lying on the ground. The plastic was torn and the jerky was half eaten. He almost laughed when he saw that. That's probably what that dog had been after the entire time.
He picked up the box of oatmeal cookies and stood, turning to Nick.
The wetness from the blanket had now soaked into his shirt and made a wet mess of it. It was beginning to grow colder as the night progressed. Gilbert needed to find shelter for the night especially since his blanket and his shirt were now wet.
"Thank you for your help." He nodded his head towards Nick. "It was very kind of you. I can handle it from here."
Gilbert turned around and dragged his feet along the ground toward the exit of the alley way.
He still had a long way to go as far as he was concerned.

"Oi! Kid!" Nick yelled as he ran after the boy. "Let me at least help you with that blanket, okay? It's all muddy and dripping wet. You'll catch a cold or somethin'." He then paused for a moment before saying, "And where do you live anyway? Somehwere 'round here? I'll take you home if ya like, protect ya from any more dogs." The boy known as 'Gil' really did look pitiful and Nick couldn't help but offer to escort him home. He was such a little guy that anything could happen to him and Nick didn't want to turn on the TV the next day to a news program that said they'd found a small boy's body behind a dumpster.

Gilbert wondered if his parents had even noticed he was gone yet.
He almost felt like resisting to go home anymore was pointless. In retrospect, he hadn't exactly thought it out all too well in the first place.
He had nowhere to go and only enough cookies to last him a few days.
Plus, being protected from any strange and wild dogs did sound nice.
"Okay." Gilbert gave in and handed Nick the blanket. He was ready to go home and forget this night ever happened.
"I don't live far from here... I think." Gilbert felt the other boy give him a strange look.
"Well, what I mean is, I couldn't have gone that far from home. We just need to turn around and start walking that way."

Nick stopped laughing but he couldn't help the grin that was plastered on his face. This kid was just so adorable. "Hey, I wasn't running away frome home. I always stay out this late." Okay, 'always' was a bit of an exageration but he did stay out late often. Never this late though. "Yup, I stay out as long as I want and my parents don't do anything about it." Now he was just bragging. Not to mention stretching the truth. Whenever he got home later than he was suppsoed to, his parents always tore him a new one. Not that he'd tell this kid that though. Better to be a cool guy who does what he wants than one who gets grounded nearly every weekend for staying out half an hour after curfew.

Gilbert crossed his arms over his chest. He couldn't understand why Nick's parents were cool and his weren't. He was never aloud out of the house unless it was to go to school or there was gonna be an adult watching him.
He almost felt like a baby standing next to Nick. Nick was cool and aloud to do cool stuff. Gilbert wasn't.
"What would your parents do if you got kidnapped, or something? How ald are you anyways?"

"She's preggers, huh? That must suck. I know this guy who's mom had a kid, says it was the worst thing ever. The baby gets all the attention and they basically ignore you." Nick wasn't helping the obviously already upset boy feel any better and he knew it. He was just telling what he figured was the truth.

"So, you live there, ay? Nice enough looking place," he said as they walked towards his house.
