Welcome to Morbid Curiosity
(fancy banner goes here...)

I am thrilled to open my morbid event thread once more, for in no other time was the pubic more interested in the macabre and bizarre than in the late Victorian era. It was the time of dark grandeur: Side-shows, seances, magic shows and psychics thrived year-round and the living became fascinated with connecting with the dead.

I once again will bring up interesting facts and images to sate the dark curiosity that lay in each of your minds as well as offering cheap event art (which seems to be much more popular)

So, take a seat and stay a while. Go ahead and have a drink and feel free to chat. Just let your mind go and open your eyes to the darker side of a Victorian summer.

~Caricatures~

Hello and welcome to what most of you will find to be the most interesting part of this thread, The event art post!

Since it is the last day of the event I am offering "sale" prices at 200g per a request. However, the rules are the same unless you wish to bribe.

1~ I get to choose what size it is (Head, bust or waist-up)
2~ I get to choose how I color it ( full color or mono)
3~ If you want something more specific, you may need to bribe me more.
4~ If your request is not accepted, do not complain or get angry. My Vodun spirits will be forced to show you the way out if you do.
5~ This is not a first-come, first serve deal. If I have more inspiration for the third request than the other two, it will probably get done first.

Now, with that out of the way, Here are some samples of the work you should expect to receive:

Accepted offers~

Pickup~

~Anglie~

~Tales of the Macabre~

News of the Strange~
Articles from 19th century newspapers (courtesy of Asylum Eclectica)

Quote:
Toledo, Ohio, Sept. 20, 1885-- Thirteen years ago Thomas Hubbell, a farmer residing in Monclava township, was supposed to have died and was buried. A few years ago his friends received a letter signed in the dead man's name, saying he is alive and would soon visit them. Recently a second letter of the same character was received. This caused an examination of the grave and the casket was found to be empty. An explanation of the mystery is said to be that the grave was robbed and the body sent to a medical college in Michigan. It was then discovered that the man was not dead, but his mind being affected by disease he could give no information concerning his friends and was placed in an asylum, where he subsequently recovered. A brother of the resurrected man has gone to Michigan to investigate the matter. The widow of Hubbell married again several years ago.(The Commercial Telegraph)

Quote:
Chico, California, Dec. 25, 1897-- Thomas L. Henry of Pine Station, Pa., died the other day, and his friends made preparations to give him a fine funeral. But the sad event has been indefinitely postponed owing to the fact that when they were about to put the old gentleman on ice he raised himself up, winked at the prettiest girl in the room and asked what time it was.(Chico Weekly Record)

Quite well, thank you! I am excited as I am actually able to partake in this event and doubly so due to the weather out here by me. It has taken a turn towards autumn finally :)

It's so quiet in here! How could you not have more people in here, you do for every other event!

*sigh* People are intimidated, I think. Perhaps I should tone down on the theatrics? *shoves zombie back in box*

Theatrics? I thought it was just a reason for people to gather and earn neat things.

Not particularly. I like my ignorance, thank-you-very-much. It keeps me happy, and I like being happy.

Is anyone else interested in this? And why is it that the events that are most suited to this particular thread topic are the ones that get the least posts in here? It makes no sense!

It's because most people stick to the hang-out threads they already know. I've tried making Morbid a permanent hang out twice before and no one was really interested. It could just be because of the theme though, or my suggestion of intelligent conversation and topics rather than the usual mindless chatting that most threads have. Not that I have anything against it, that is.

I don't usually go on discussion threads, I just don't feel like I have enough to say. It's really hard for me to insert myself into other people's conversations, too, something in my brain keeps saying it's rude.

Hello Anglie, and welcome to MC.
I most certainly can draw your avatar for such a generous bribe. Are there any specifics you were looking for?

EDIT: I shall be back to take your specifics a bit later, alright? I have to go make dinner now.

@Anglie: Alright, sounds good to me. Your request shall be waiting for you upon your return :)

@Lore: It's alright, it's not really a big thing. Well, not big yet, hopefully. I really want MC to be a permanent hang-out some day.

Haha, well, having people interested enough to post for one. Like I said earlier, I have tried twice before but both times it flopped. The larger hangouts always pushed it off the first couple of pages too :/

I know how that goes. I have had a hangout or two in the past that I couldn't keep active enough to make into a real hangout thread. That's why I've taken to hanging out in other people's threads, especially for events.

So we just need to keep talking here! And then, when you try again, all of us who consider each other friends have to post, and maybe attract more like-minded people! And then it'll be permanent!
