Pixie Academy
This is my place to show off a little as I learn. I am going to try to learn to be a pixel artist but I have so much to learn.

Dedication: I want to take this opportunity to thank Demo for introducing me to this aspect of Menewsha forums as well as giving me some advice on how to improve.

Flow and Fluttery Skirt

I attempted to try some new things here. I first learned that I don't have to draw every single dot. There are tools in the paint program that help.

Then I tried to get the lighting right. I'm afraid some old habits from drawing are there. Might take awhile to fix. Just need to figure out how.

Finally, I got rid of the outline lines. I haven't done that before because, well, it never occurred to me to.

I think it would be fun to create a CI set that had several scenic backgrounds, several types of terrain for under the feet (cliff edge?), and dragons! Riding a dragon, dragons flying in the background, big dragons, small dragons... and perhaps clothing sets for elves, medieval humans, and mages.

Here is just a rough outline of how it COULD be done...

first of all, JPEG is not the great format to save your pixel item in.
Either gif or png work.
JPEG tends to fizzle and blur pixels.

Currently, I see that you are using a lot of colours/shades where as the magic of pixel is using as few shades as possible to achieve a nice blended result.

Okay, so save in a different format and use less shades. Will do my best to adjust! Thanks!

It looks like I have a lot to unlearn from drawing.

At least you have the basics of light and shadow, fold, curve and reflection. Those fundamental basic are the same.
Just apply those theory in the realm of pixeling.

Wow, I didn't know I had those skills. I had trouble until I focused on how I would draw it if I had a pencil in my hand instead of a computer mouse. I like challenges though. Every time I stopped, I had to go back and continue because it felt... worth it.

Thank you hon. I have drawn it by hand so many times. Feels limited on this but probably only because I am not used to it.

I went to start another and when I saved it, it was automatically saving them as png... not jpeg. Maybe facebook or omgur switched them to jpeg.

I had learned to draw the eye from online. However for the rest, no. That is probably why I am not very good. I am starting another pixel project. A basic shirt. Going to try to stick to three shades. Also going to try to put a wrinkle on the side going partway across the stomach.

@ Maidenrose: Protip: The site uses 6 shades per 'color'.

This was a handy guide given to me for the site palettes

you right click the image and select "Copy Image", then press Ctrl+V on the program that you're using. (I use MS Paint, pretty much)

Then you use the eyedropper tool on the color you want to copy. Hopefully the program you use has it.

I love that skirt

I think the lines on the right(avi's left) are a bit too dark though, they kind of seem a little harsh compared to the rest of the skirt.

But those folds are amazing o.0

...Lion King?
lion costume suit?

Things said before.
I see you do have basics in terms of shape and folds. It will certainly improve dramatically if you find some tutorials on how to draw it properly.
There are many different tutorial available online for free.

The blue dress is gorgeous. I love the flowyness of it. And i love the idea of the dragon. I can't wait to see it fully colored

Thank you so much. I was getting discouraged there because I wasn't able to create anything pretty with just three colors. But if they are not so bad with more, I will gladly work on these again :)
