Are we celebrating that our good governments are safe from lunatics?

Or are we celebrating that any individual has the right to blow up an unjust governing body?

Will elaborate more later.

Feel free to discuss.

I don't celebrate this holiday, but I love the movie V for Vendetta and I like bonfires.

I have to agree with Vix.

... But I like how you put it, too, Crow. The right to blow up unjust governments.. xD; *starts up a bonfire because I don't have anything unjust to burn*

I love this Code Geass/V for Vendetta movie trailer mashup. I always described Code Geass to people as anime crack of 1984/V for Vendetta with Clamp characters and Sunrise robots.

I'd just like to add that there is an episode of Daria where the various holidays are represented by different animated characters, and Guy Fawkes Day is pals with Halloween, and Christmas. Sorry, I just couldn't help sharing. Thanks for letting me geek out on your thread;)

I tried to put together a Bonfire Night gathering but I couldn't get ahold of enough people. -_-

I bet you would, Lizzy. Another mashup Video: V's Speech on the 5th of November as delivered by Zero:

Also, I suppose Vix is right to a degree. Even though Guy Fawkes did not actually succeed in blowing up Parliament, he made it very clear that Catholics were being treated unjustly by the Protestant majority. The Protestants celebrated the execution of the Traitor. The Catholics? They praised his attempt. Now it is not as black and white as 'protestants vs catholics', but the day still lends quite a bit to think about... is our government actually just? With 'The Patriot Act' in the US, how many people fear the government or what might be done to them without a trial and jury if they are suspected of 'terrorism'? Is everyone smiling and nodding because we're actually happy, or because it's forced conformity?
