  • As Renee headed for the door, she made an umm noise. Her and her family normally woke up fairly early since her father always had different errands to do from the Council as did she sometimes. She would make sure to make it to breakfast with them the next morning and talk with them there. "Well do I need to get anything packed or whatever in the morning? If not, somewhere between 10 and 12 should be fine. That gives me time with my family as well as a quick shower and all that good stuff,"

Renee got in the car briskly and buckled herself in. She never would have thought she would be right there where she was, that morning. She would have assumed she would just be at her home, on the sidelines of the killings and search. However she was hanging out and doing investigatory work with Kurt; another council member; a Vampire.

Sometimes life threw you curve balls. Or lemons.

Kurt nodded his head as he got in on the driver's side, pushed the keys into the ignition, and turned the car on. He put it in park as the garage doors came up. He drove off.

"I'll come and pick you up at eleven then. That could give me some time to replenish for some hours as well as be ready for the day. I don't wake as early as you may," he explained to her. Though that was partial of a lie, he suddenly realized.

There were times where he never got sleep for the Council and times where he had to get up early for a meeting or something of the sort. But mainly, only mainly, did he allow himself to sleep until he was fully awake.

It was odd for him to be working with a Werewolf, he realized this. He had never seen his kind and her kind working together before. It as odd, in a way, but it was a good kind of odd. He knew it must have looked...different to the other Council members, but he knew it was going to make an impact on their kinds. Maybe when they're done investigating, there will be peace, finally, between their kind.

  • "Then it all works out," Renee said smiling. The drive was quick, since Council members normally lived around the same areas. It's not like they would live in the dumps since they were so high on the food chain. It just so happened most Council were fairly well off in their money endevours.

"Well," Renee commented as they neared her house. "Tomorrow it is," She bowed her head softly as the car pulled to a stop. She knew she would sleep pretty well that night. With all the research and late hour, she was really starting to feel the exhaustion. She knew her parents and most staff would be asleep when she entered.

Once up to her room, Renee hit the sack almost immediately, after setting an alarm.

Kurt gave a smile and gave a quick nod once he stopped at her house. "Have a good night, Miss Alexander," he made haste to say before she closed the door. He waited to see her get in safely before he drove on, circling around the block to get back to his house.

Once he got back to his home, he walked into the kitchen, sighing as he looked around at everything. In a way, he felt a hinge of loneliness with Renee being gone. He adapted to easily, which was the problem. She had spent such long hours in the day with him that he had instantly gotten used to it. And he liked it. But now that he was alone again, he frowned.

He felt sleep nag at his eyes. He slipped out of his coat and slippers, walking over to his bedroom. There, she stripped so he could slip into his pajama pants, which were checked red and black. He turned off all of the lights and slid into bed. He'd get a shower when he wakes up.

As he fell asleep, he wandered about tomorrow. What would happen? What would they find out? He was eager to get the investigation over and done with. He was itching to see who the murderer is, who had murdered his best friend in the entire world, who had seemed to be the only father he ever had.

Bits and pieces from his past life flickered when he was half-awake and half-asleep. Memories. Painful memories. Memories of his biological father neglecting him, ignoring him, pushing him away. He still felt a surge of loneliness from that time, but he reminded himself of what he has now and what Wesley had given him. This had become one of those rare moments where Kurt was actually happy and proud to be a Vampire.

  • The ringing of the alarm came quicker then Renee had wanted. The annoying noise rang out and she just about punched her alarm across the room. She withheld that urge, though, and turned it off in a civilized way. There were things that needed to be done that day that were important. She couldn't be dragging her feet the entire day. They would get no where if that was the issue.

Renee made her way to the shower and cleaned herself up nicely, and then walked back into her room in her robe and changed clothes, her hair wrapped up in a towel. From there she went back into the bathroom and began to blow dry her hair and pretty herself up from there. The makeup was applied evenly and efficently and she pulled her hair up today, instead of leaving it down. It didn't take Renee too terribly long to finish up and head downstairs to the dining room where she knew her parents were bound to already be.

Taking a deep breath, she imerged in the room and sat down in her usual seat. Renee smiled at her parents and began to get her breakfast ready. "So... ah... are you feeling better today mom?" She asked and her mother responded accordingly. It was wonderful that she was doing so well.

"Did you get a lot done yesterday? I'm sure Kurt took care around you," Jonas commented. It was seemed like a statement but also a question and a thread. Kind of like if anything ever happened to her, he would go to Kurt first.

Renee chuckled. "Yes. We got some research done, dinner, and plans for some leads today. He will be over her shortly, around 11," She said. "I hope the Council doesn't get too cross about this being accepted. I mean, things are going really good now. And Kurt and I working together is a huge step for our kinds,"

Tyla, Renees mother agreed and smiled. Jonas, of course, could not argue with that.

Kurt woke to a slow start. He used a cold shower to wake him up. After his shower, he laid out his clothes as he hurried to his kitchen where he took out a full bag of blood and punched a straw into it like it was some Capri Sun juice bag. He sucked on it as he came back to his room and stared down at his clothes.

He usually avoided leaving the house or the Council building when the sun was up and high, but today was an exception. He sat his bag of blood down carefully on his bag of blood so it sat upright against his lamp perfectly. He stripped from his pajamas and slipped into his socks first, then his long black slacks, then an undershirt, then a jacket-like shirt over top that matched the pants. It was long sleeved and its collar was high enough to cover his neck.

After buttoning that up, he finished off his blood. Then, he tied on his good dressy black boots, and then added on his black leather gloves. He slipped on a casual black hat and then grabbed his 'special' sunglasses that were r.x. He put them on as he got into his car. He started it up and made his way to Renee's house promptly on time.

  • Breakfast wasn't too bad. Her parents knew what her and Kurt were trying to do. Even though they were worried, they saw the prospect of them working together being a good thing for the races. Of course Renee knew they would still need to be careful. But it wasn't like they were kids. It had been quite a long time since either of them were kids and they knew it wasn't a game.

Renee excused herself from the table and headed back up to her room quickly. She got herself some shoes on that she hadn't put on before, and a bag that slung from her shoulder, that she put over her head and went across her chest. In it was mostly normal things; like her drivers license and Council member stuff. However it also had a handgun in it. Renee had been told to bring it along. With so much time on your hands from being a Supernatural, there is a lot to do. Learning how to shoot and getting a permit was just one of the possible things to do.

Heading out the door, Renee grabbed a light coat just in case it would be cold later, and shut the door behind her. Almost just as she was heading out, Kurt was driving up. She smiled, they had really good timing.

When Kurt made it to Renee's house still in one piece, he nearly cursed at himself for forgetting the special sunlight-blocking shield for allt he windows of his car. Just as she opened the door to get in, he switched on the protection, taking off his sunglasses to look at her.

"Good morning, Miss Alexander. How did you sleep?" he asked with a big, bright smile. He was happy to see her, he truly was.

"What would you wish to do first?" he then asked her as he waited for her answer, his gloved hands resting on the steering wheel as he looked at her. He had sat his sunglasses down near the dashboard.

  • Renee smiled as she got in then buckled herself up. "I'm pretty good. Slept well, and breakfast was nice. My family of course is worried, but understand things," She commented. "Hm, well we still need to talk to those who got to look at the bodies. I'm sure we can talk to the coroner about the poisons that were used. You said you wanted to look into that, correct?"

Renee knew today was liable to be a long and tireing day. There was just so much to do, and such little time to do it in. Who knew when the next target would be taken down.

Kurt nodded his head. "You're right. So we'll make our way to all of the Underground hospitals. Thank goodness there's only five," he said as he put the car in gear and was off to the nearest one.

"I have a hunch that the poison is something new or old. Like, maybe it something...unexpected, you know? It seems like this murderer wants all of his actions to be unexpected," Kurt said as he rubbed the back of his neck with his hand in thought.

"Do you ever get the feeling that the murderer...is trying to get to the council?" Kurt asked out of nowhere. His expression read a bad kind of confusion as he looked over at Renee for a moment before looking back on the road.

Ugh, traffic.

But that was when his cell phone began to go off. Only the Council really called him. He answered it and froze, soon turning to Renee with wide eyes and parted lips with the news that the elder Vampire Council member had just told him.

"The murderer has killed someone again," he told Renee.

  • Renee wasn't sure what exactly to think about the killer since they didn't know much about it. And even though the Council wasn't always loud about their actions, they were always trying to better the supernatural world. They were one of the highest powers, however, and it was common for higher powers to get targeted. It just didn't seem like it was because of their power.

"Maybe, but w-," Renee said before the phone went off. Her face went grave, her eyes scared. So it did have more to do about the Council then they first realized. "W... Who was it?" She asked.

For a while, after Kurt had turned his phone off and tossed it aside to the dashboard, his lips formed a thin, grave line. Frustration. Now the council. This was something serious. He turned into a random driveway and back back out, turning around and heading straight for the council building.

"Harkly. We're to head to the Council building right away," Kurt explained with a heavy sigh. He shook his head as he cursed under his breath. "How on Earth can you poison a Ghost? Please explain to me this," he said, nearly frustrated to obviousness. A Ghost? Let alone the elder Ghost.

Whatever poison it is, it was targeted to everyone. And Kurt could already guess what it might be.

"Tell me, Miss Alexander," he said as he stopped at a red light, waiting for it to turn green. "Have you ever heard of a rare essence called 'Mairl'?" he asked calmly.

  • Well that was Renee's answer. The Council member of the Ghosts was the one that had gotten murdered. That means the Council would be on a much tighter lockdown. Not only that, but now they would really have to work harder on being a Council and also. They would need to get the next in line for the Ghosts and train that person; make sure they would be good for the position. Luckily she had already been working on her skills since she was so much like her father.

"Oh my...," Renee said quietly, sadly. How could this have happened? There were very few ways to kill Ghosts. Heck, they were already dead. Poison was deffinatly not the choice weapon.

"Mairl?," Renee commented in a questioning tone. She had heard the name before, but couldn't place it. "My skills arn't with poisons and plants, so no, not really,"

Kurt was silent for another moment. It wasn't uncommon that she didn't know what it was, that he was glad of. Clouds began to crowd up the sky, blocking the son for who knows how long. So he turned off the shaders for the car. He sighed, feeling a bit more freer without the shaders setting.

"Mairl is a very rare and poisonous plant. It's one of two things that can kill a ghost. If the autopsy doctor finds traces of Mairl, then we have our suspects narrowed down. We need to go to the plant houses, anywhere that Mairl is being sold. We'll use the Council's technology to track down the places. It's one of those plants that can be used for both good and bad. It used to be a cure for blindness," Kurt explained.

Finally, they arrived at the Council building only to find it swarmed with police cars and people crowded around the yellow tape spread around reading CAUTION. Kurt found a parking spot, got out and stuck his keys in his pockets.

Not all the cops that had originally come with the cars were present. Kurt walked up to the yellow tape when a cop stood forward. "The perimeter is unsafe," the cop said.

Kurt waited for Renee before he bring out his Council badge and ID.

  • Renee nodded. Now she remembered what it was. The blindness was the main thing she was familiar with. It wasn't something humans could easily get their hands on, so only Supernaturals sold them. It deffinatly wasn't free; it was fairly high priced. And that this was one of the reasons why.

She supposed that there was some silver lining in this, though that didn't make it any better. Death was never fun; even though it was natural. Renee dug out her own ID as well, Kurt ahead of her. "Excuse us," She said as they were allowed to pass.

"That is a good plan. And if they know that we need the reports, they will probably get it done and the information handed over a lot quicker," Renee commented as they hurried deeper into the fray and movement. The whole place was closed off more or less, but it wouldn't be too long before everything was gone, though. Once the perimeter was completely secure and most of the questioning done, they would be done. They never liked a lot of show-y business around the Council buildings.

In times like that, it wasn't safe for all of the members houses and meeting places to be known. Supernaturals were fairly much quicker then humans, and that was included in crime investigation.

Kurt had pulled his ID out at the same time Renee had. He couldn't help but smile smugly at the officer who looked awkward and silent allowed them to pass. Kurt walked with Renee towards the entrance.

"I couldn't agree with you more," Kurt quickly said.

They walked to the stairs, ascending it to head to the floor that Kurt was told the crime scene was on.

"So Harkly was murdered her, in this building. But the murderer had left before anyone got to the body," said Kurt as his mind registered with his senses.

A bunch of officers and a few hospital people were walking away, passing Renee and Kurt without a word as they left with their equipment.

All that was left was the crime scene and Thanos. He turned his head to the two and looked relieved beyond words. "Thank goodness you two arrived. Marcus has been asking about you. He's beyond worried. He needs to talk with you two in his office," he quickly explained.

  • It was just horrible that the killings kept hitting so close to home. It saddended Renee that this could happen. It also worried her about what would happen next. Why was this happeneing?!

Renee stayed close to Kurt, making sure not to disrupt any of the men that were working on site.

"Maybe Marcus will know more then we do right now," She commented after they were informed of being searched for. They needed to start having more guard security around the Council members places, and Marcus was also one of the ones that was liable to set it up quickly. That or her father, who was probably also near by.

Renee looked around. "It seems they still have a bit more work to do here anyway, before we will be able to get our hands on much information. I think we should go talk to him, then come back,"

Kurt nodded his head, putting his hand on the back of Renee's back softly as he looked around without really thinking of what he had just done. If he weren't Vampire, he'd be blushing as he looked down at Renee. He couldn't place it, but he knew that all of a sudden, he felt a surge of protection and security fall over him. He wanted to keep Renee safe.

"You're right, come one, let's go to Marcus and talk about this. Things don't feel...right," Kurt murmured. It was almost as if there weren't even anywhere safe from the murderer anymore, like they'd have to find out who the murderer was in order to be safe again. It wasn't a pleasant feeling.

He'd hate to push Renee, but he felt rushed, scared. He just wanted to get in and out so he and Renee could go and finish this once and for all. It was already the afternoon and Kurt was determined. If he had to stay up all night, for days, he would. He decided that he'd refuse to rest until he found out who this bloke was.

Marcus was at his desk, his face in his hands as he was rubbing furiously at his temples as if he had a terrible headache. At the sound of Renee and Kurt, his head shot up with tired eyes.

"Thank goodness you two are alright," he commented as he pushed himself to his feet with his hands flat on the desk. "Miss Alexander, your father wants to see you in his office. Kurt, you and I need to talk."

  • Kurt led them to Marcus. There seemed to be a rush in his step, but she didn't mind. She also kept herself from blushing much when his hand rested on her. The killing worried her, so it probably worried him too. As they got in she finally got word about her father.

Renee bowed slightly and nodded. "Yes. I will be back shortly, then, hopefully," Renee commented before giving Kurt a look that said she'd be careful. Jonas's office wasn't too far anyway. Just in the next wing. She left briskly and walked down the hallway. This wasn't the official crime scene, so she assumed they already got what information they could from that corridor. Maybe that was what made it so eerie, calm and quiet. It made Renee walk a little faster, creeped out a little. The thing was, how on earth did the killer get in to kill a Council Member?

Finally his door came into view and she walked in to him paceing. "A Renee, you okay, good good," He said letting out a sigh and then going to sit behind his desk. Jonas motioned for her to sit down as well. "I don't know if I want you playing hero anymore," He said simply.

Getting down the point was how her father always was. "Father, I'm not a little girl anymore. I think we are getting closer to who it is. I know we havn't been on the case long but Kurt and I are good," Renee countered. "We know what this kill means. It means it has to do more with the Council and high powers then we all thought at first. It's not as random. I know that is what scares you. But this... thing, or whoever it is; is really smart. There are only two ways to kill a ghost, right? Well that knowledge comes more with experience and age then anything. Sure I know the ways to kill a ghost, but it would take a hell of a lot more practice then I will have probably -- ever." She said trying to stay calm. She didn't think she was ready to really kill anyone. That was probably the main difference between her and Kurt; who she assumed had killed previously. "So... the killer must be older. Have it out for superiors. Do you know which way he was killed?"
The more Renee was talking the more it settled in her mind. That was it; the killer had to be older. Had to have an extense amount of knowledge and not just of precision killing. She wasn't just talking to Jonas, but herself too.

Jonas sighed heavily and rubbed his forhead. "You are killing me over here, and no I don't know all of the detail yet. Marcus might since he was more in the scene then I have been, yet"

Kurt was quiet and patient as he watched Marcus turn to the rainy weather outside the only window in the office. Marcus had his arms behind his back, a huff had just left him in a stressful way. Kurt was inwardly anxious to find out what it was that Marcus had to talk to him about. He hoped it had nothing to do with working with a Werewolf. But then again Marcus never had any issues with the Werewolves.

"I don't think it's a good idea to do whatever it is that you and Miss Alexander are doing," Marcus said, waiting a moment before he turned his head and caught eyes with Kurt.

Poor Marcus. He looked so exhausted and tired. Even stressed. It pained Kurt to see his elder in such a state.

"I know how to take care of myself," Kurt told him.

Marcus's face didn't change as he son sat down at his desk, rubbing his nose where his glasses once sat down upon. "You're important to this Council, Kurt. I can't afford for you to get killed," Marcus tried to stress. "Vampire, over a hundred years old or not, you're still the young council member for the Vampires. We look up to you. We need you. And when I'm gone, you will be taking our place. We've lost enough council members as it is."

"Yes, but this murderer needs to be found. Marcus, you need to listen to me. Miss Alexander and I...we're doing great. We've been doing research and have figured out so much about this murder," Kurt said with excitement. He felt so proud to know what it was that he knew now. "We're getting somewhere!"

Marcus gave Kurt a hard look. "You need to stop this childish business. As your elder, I'm telling you what is best."

Something snapped in Kurt that caused him to rush forward and slam his hands down on the wood of the desk. "You don't know me! You don't how I handle things. You need to stop playing father because I sure as hell am the only one who knows what's best for me. Just because you're my elder, does not mean that you have any say in how I choose to deal with things."

Marcus looked shocked at Kurt's outburst. Not only because he wasn't expecting this from such a calm, cool, and collective Vampire, but because no one has ever really experienced Kurt frustrated, upset, or angry like this.

"I don't care what you say. You can revoke my privileges from the Council for all I want. But this murderer killed the only friend I had in my life and I am not stopping until I get to rip his head off." Kurt stood up and turned around, exited the office without another word or without waiting for Marcus to say anything. He slammed the door behind him, sighing angrily as he ran his hands through his hair.

  • Jonas looked sad; maybe a hint of fear as well in his eyes. Renee knew it was because she was his only little girl. The thing was, she wasn't that little girl anymore. "There has to be some way to convinse you to not keep doing this," He said.

Renee shook her head. "I know you remember the story you always told me when when you younger. You were a one or a few decades younger then I am now. You were basically in my shoes right now. Your father was the council member and you were learning. Sure you made it to the meeting more than I have, but you had your moment when you had to stand up for what you believed in. This is my time," She said strongly. "I have to do this"

Jonas smiled even though he didn't want it to happen. She was right, again. He walked up to her and hugged her. "You took a little too much after me," He commented as he let her go.

Renee shook her head. "No, I think the right amount,"
She then exited after a few more words and headed back down the hall. First thing she noticed was that Kurt looked pretty upset.

Kurt took a minute, trying to breathe correctly in the form of calming down. But nothing was working. Soon, he heard footsteps. His head immediately snapped up and looked at Renee. He looked over her face, seeing no signs of anger or anything negative. And he was finding himself glad. She wasn't like Marcus who judged him and urged him to be like all the other past Vampires. She was her own, kind self and that, somehow, caused Kurt to relax. He had no reason to be upset in front of Renee. It felt almost indecent to be in such a state in front of her. That was just how he was.

His face softened as he let out a soft, long, and drawn-out sigh, shaking his head. "Marcus is trying to talk me out of doing this. He called it 'childish business'. He's absolutely stupid to think that I would give this choice up just like that." He shook his head again, looking away from Renee for a moment to look down at the floor. After that moment, he looked back up at her, deciding it was time to direct the subject away from him and to her. "What did Jonas have to say to you?" he asked in a voice more calm and gentle than he had been expecting with all the rage lingering within him.

He was expecting something dramatic, like maybe Jonas being the same way Marcus was. Or maybe her being forbidden to talk to Kurt ever again -- something of the sort. Kurt never usually thought of the worse case scenario, but right now was one of those little only-exceptions.

  • Renee smiled slightly. She was happy that Kurt was calm again, and that he was still going to work to help to save them all and find the killer. Neither of them were quitters, in the least. she then looked back down the all from where she came and back to Kurt.

"I was surprised. I thought it would be worse. He was real... cool about it. I mean of course he was father like. He doesn't want me hurt in the least, and I can understand that. But when I spoke to him, he understood why I was doing this. He understood that if he was in my shoes right now, he would be doing the exact same thing. So there wasn't much he could do. And he seems to be okay with you, too, so that's good," Renee said. She watched Kurt's a bit. He was defying Marcus working with her on the case. It took gumption, that was for sure.

"And don't worry about Marcus. He'll blow over when we figure this case out. Did you get any information about the death?"

Kurt kept his eyes on her, feeling as if he had taken his eyes from her just for a moment, he would regret it somehow. The idea was strange, for her to be the only reason he's calming down at the moment. He didn't dislike it, he in fact enjoyed it. But it just got him a little confused and questioning. He pushed those thoughts away when she spoke to him more. He slightly raised his eyebrows in an informative way. He crossed his arms over his chest and softly shrugged his shoulders.

"Marcus was odd about it if anything," he answered honestly. "Come on, let's get out of here. I don't like to be here any longer than necessary." He motioned his head to the stairs. Elevators would be down with all of the security cameras getting checked.

"They're checking all security cameras for any signs of the murderer. Whoever he is, it's obvious he isn't human. Marcus thinks there's a possibility he's either Ghost, Vampire, or Shapeshifter." He relaxed his arms back down at his sides as he descended the stairs with ease. Talking to her was just as calming as looking at her. "Whoever he is, he knows the Council well. We're going to have to check out past records for Council members who have been released."

He tried to thinking harder for this situation. It was hard since this murderer was actually good and sneaky enough to get Marcus and everyone at the Council frustrated and confused -- lost.

  • Renee was quiet as they began to exit the building. When they were outside, the police were calming down a little bit. It seemed they had just about all the information they were going to get from there right then. They would just have to hack the files or something later to figure out what had been the death of the Council Ghost. Either way, Kurt was right. They needed to look into the Council's past.

When they were back at the car Renee paused before opening her door. "What kind of things do you think the Council may hide from eyes they don't want to see?" She asked. It sounded ominouse, yet she was serious.

Just how well did they know everyone around them? Was it improbable that it could even be a council member, or a past council member. What had the Council done to made someone so angry?
