Am I the only person around here who doesn't celebrate Christmas? My family does, and it took them like 10 years to lay off of harassing me about it. But it seems like they have finally accepted it. My mom doesn't celebrate either, because she is a Jehovah's Witness, and they don't do Christmas, birthdays, etc. I am just a plain ol' atheist, looking for fellow Menewshans who may feel a bit left out this time of year...

Aww. I'm sorry you feel left out. Just because you're an athiest, though, doesn't mean you can't celebrate Christmas. The main part of the holiday now isn't part of the Christian holiday, anyway. It's just fun and food and presents.

I've never understood why Jehova's Witnesses don't celebrate holidays. Why is that? (I really want to know.)

Well, I'm not too sure on why it seems to be banned for them, but I know that Witnesses don't believe that Jesus was born in December, but rather in October. They don't celebrate anything then, either, which I don't really understand. They also don't vote, and have a few other quirks that I find odd. But I love my mother, and respect her religion.

I still choose not to celebrate on a commercial level, because people just tell you what they want, you tell them what you want, and you buy those things for each other, which usually cost about the same. I mean, wouldn't you rather just buy for yourself, but maybe shop with that person and spend time with them? Just my opinion.

You dont have to be religious to celebrate christmas. It is a time of giving and recieving and sharing time with good friends and family. You dont have to be religious to celebrate the fourth of July so why do you feel you have to be religious to celebrate the christmas holiday. I dont believe in going to baby showers but I still send a gift.

I don't celebrate Christmas for religious purposes. I take part in the same way I take part in New Years celebrations and Halloween. o^o

I have to agree with you about the giftgiving though, at least in the part about people just telling each other what they want and buy them for each other. Isn't part of the fun in getting a wrapped gift not knowing what you're gonna get?

I've been told many many times that I'm 'hard to shop for' though, so now I just tell them something general,
like keychains or some kind of sketchbook or candles, so I can still get a little surprise~ X'D

although I think most people have forgotten the true meaning of christmas. I think celebrating being with people you love makes the holidays fun. jehova witness's confuse me sometimes, a girl I knew who was one acted like I should not have had pictures of jesus or crosses up in my house, because she said it was like I was worshipping the item.....Helloo I have a picture of my dead aunt who I somtimes talk to, but I know the picture is not her.

anyway, who cares when christ was born, the actual date does not matter, besides atheist or not. something about not celebrating at all during the season just seems wrong.

but hey whatever makes you happy.

Yeah, I think most Christians understand that Jesus wasn't born on December 25th. But, if they don't want to celebrate things, to each his own, I guess.

I understand not liking the commercialism of the holiday, too. It's a big put-off to me. However, it is the one time of year when I am willing to be a sap for the card companies. Who doean't want to feel like there is some hope in the world, if just for a little while. That's how I see it, anyway.

I'm agnostic, but I've always loved christmas and always plan on celebrating it. I grew up going to church but I never believed that the story of jesus and places like Bethlehem were real, so I never really associated jesus with christmas. I always believed in Santa though, so for me christmas is about Santa and gift giving. I also didn't think Albuquerque was real because bugs bunny always got lost there.:P

I'm not religious at all and don't really "celebrate" Christmas in that sense, but I do the whole Santa and presents junk. I mostly just saw Christmas as a time to spend time with my family and get a home cooked meal. (since I have eaten mostly box dinners and fast food since I was 16) I buy people presents because I want to and the thought is what counts more than the money you spend on each other. Since I have a daughter of my own, Christmas really helps me out a lot. Her family buys her things that we couldn't afford to get by ourselves. Plus, she has a lot of fun.
