Welcome one and all to Mene's Secret Santa Exchange 2012! 'Tis the season to be jolly and here at Mene we're no different! In the holiday season a lot of people can get wrapped up in the joy of getting gifts, however this thread is designed to make us find joy in the art of giving gifts.

In case you've never participated in a Secret Santa Exchange before, allow me to give you a run down of what it is.

A secret santa is when members of a group are randomly assigned another member to buy a Christmas gift for, but the trick is it needs to be done anonymously.

Now, you may be wondering how this works on Mene?

Well, first of all if you choose to participate you will be pick a price range that you will give/receive a gift(either 500-2500, 2500-5000, 5000-10000 or 10000-25000). This makes it fair so that you don't spend 1000 on a present for someone but only get one worth 100 back. After you submit your form to participate, you'll be randomly given another user from the same price range as you to buy a gift for. You can buy them something over the price range (eg. You're in the 2500-5000 price range and you find out the person you're gifting is questing something worth 7000) but you must not go below it. Please note: if you want to participate in the highest bracket but no-one else does you'll be moved into the one below it. You will be told that you've been moved down when you get given your person though. If there's only one person in the lowest bracket they'll be moved up After you've bought their gift you send it to me in a trade with their username in the comments section and then I'll send it over to them. Only after all gifts have been distributed may you tell the person who you gifted that you were their sectret santa. Of course, you can stay anonymous if you prefer.

You may buy the person more than one item as long as the total cost of everything exceeds the minimum value of your chosen price bracket. However please bear in mind that the purpose of this thread is to spread cheer to others. Therefore you should be aiming to give a gift that you think the other person would appreciate.

After you receive the gift you're free to do with it what you want (so if you receive a double of an item you already have you can sell it on or donate it etc.)

RULES

All of Mene's rules apply
You must not give a person a gift any lower than the minimum price in your bracket
You must not post anywhere publicly or tell the person who you are gifting that you're their secret santa until -after- the gift has been distributed
You must not be rude about the gift that you receive (it's the thought that counts)
I will not be accepting any secret santa participation forms after 11.59pm GMT on the 17th of December
All gifts must be sent to me by 11.59pm GMT on December 23rd so I can get them dispatched in time for Christmas
If you wish to withdraw your name it must be done by 11.59pm GMT on December 17th
Any people who cheat by not sending a gift or buying a gift lower than the minimum value will be reported to the staff and I will personally blacklist you from any contests I hold in the future
Only one account per person may apply to play

Note: I will try my best to get all the trades sent out in time for December 25th, but bear in mind that this period is hectic so this may not be possible. All trades will be sent by December 28th however. If you haven't received your trade by then please send me a message. :)

Posting Contest: The user with the most posts in this thread by December 25th will receive a gift in the 2500-5000 bracket from myself. Note: The user must have participated in the giveaway to be eligible for the prize.

You'll be given your people on the 18th of December after all the participation forms are in and I've had time to match you to someone. :) That gives you a week to research your person and to get them a gift.

Are you to get a present that you think they will like? Is it only one item? Also, would it just not matter if the person already had the item?

Yeah, the purpose is to get the person a gift that you think they would like. You could get them a number of items if you want, as long as the items that you get is at least the minimum value of the price bracket. Also as the item is theirs to do with as they please I guess it wouldn't matter too much if they already had the item because they could sell the spare, but it would be best to try and find an item they didn't (though it can be hard to know if you don't see the person around a lot)

Oh no no, there's no need :') I'm happy enough hosting it

If you want to participate in the highest bracket but no-one else does you'll be moved into the one below it. You will be told that you've been moved down when you get given your person though. If there's only one person in the lowest bracket they'll be moved up. :)

I have the list of who's in each bracket saved on my laptop, I was going to post it but it would make it easy to guess. xD

Can you tell us how many people are in each bracket then so that we can know where other's spending ranges are so that we don't get surprised by being moved to different brackets?

It's probably not anything that I'd post publically, no. Though it would be discussed in a PM. For instance if by the 17th I realise only one person is in the highest bracket I would send them a message and say that it's likely they'd have to change. It's not really anything that I'd spring on you -after- you have your person.

Also at the moment there's only one participant so I'm not going to say what price range they've picked. xD

Oh ok xD that's probably a good thing xD now decisions decisions... what price range do i want to go after...
